Seeing the thread in Rumor Mill and me thoroughly trouncing upon Krispy Kreme, I decided to ask something which hasn't been asked to the people: Which is better: Dunkin' Donuts, or Krispy Kreme?

John Bono

Let's look at the competators:
Krispy Kreme:
Breadless fluff, mostly air and sugar designed solely to taste kind of good and maximize profits. Also named after the french word for Semen (don't eat the filling).
Dunkin' Donuts:
Full-goodness, honest donuts. REAL donuts with a wide selction, and more than just round donuts with holes in them. Can actually be considered a mildly healthful meal.
Name lets you know what the actual store is without any mystery--also, suggest a possible combination of delicious drink and donut.

Can you guess which one I voted for?

Krispy Kreme...the melt in your mouth goodness...mmmmm. They have one on campus and I've successfully resisted the urge not to buy one (though I am guilty of having ones that people give me).

i picked up 2 dozen of krispy kreme glazed WARM donuts this morning for the low price of $4.99. I LOVE the buy one get one free fundraiser cards :D

I'm sorry--I don't see the melting thing to be superior in any way to actually being able to have a meal. Of course, the best donuts I've ever had are a small chain named "The Friendly Donut Shop." Best donuts ever at the best prices ever.
Woah, it's $6 here for the first dozen. I might actually consider the place a legitimate business if it were a buck less to compete with the rest of the town where it's all $3 or $4 for a dozen REAL donuts.

I would have to say Krispy Kreme, though I don't mind Dunkin Donuts.

Kremes are intoxicating. A lot of good people got addicted to them in last year Canadian Regional Kickoff, as they are pretty new to Canada. They aren't doughnuts though, so I nominate Dunkin' to win by default. Or Tim Horton's.

Tim Hortons, right on Jonathan!

Daylight Donuts. mmmmm... I'll take most donuts OTHER than supermarket brand donuts (flinch). heh... I really like Krispy Kreme's plain glazed donuts tho..

I've only had bagels at Tim Hortons - but they were the best bagels I ever had! I want to go back to Canada just so I can eat at Tim Hortons. ;)

Dunkin Donuts are soooo much better than krispy kreme. Besides the fact that I think that krispy kreme donuts are sort of disgusting, dunkin donuts makes the most addictive donuts ever. Especially the strawberry frosted ones.... mmhm. :D

There is some kind of force, be it for good or for evil....that causes the addictive properties in both Krispy Kreme "donuts" and girl scout cookies.

I sit and watch as over 3/4 of the population is sucked in...and I can do nothing to stop it. Nor do I care. But those Kreme's disgust me. Blech.

I REALLY like Krispy Kremes when they are hot and oozing with their goodness... however, the nearest Krispy Kreme is almost an hour and a half drive from here... so, they aren't easy access..... however, In a nearby town (about a 30 min drive from here)... fellow teammates live there, and they have a new bakery... mmm, Endless Mountains Bakery... almost exactly like Krispy Kreme...

I would have to go with Dunkin Donuts for the more well known variety... and much easier access being its about 3 miles from the shop. :)

That's what happens when someone goes on a 10 month FIRST hiatus (and me of all people to do so).

Now come my rocket scientist friend... come over to the dark side! Oh, and on the way, can you pick me up a chocolate muffin, half a dozen blueberry donuts, and a medium coffee?

Those of you non-bakers may not understand, but hey, there"s always a chance...
The point of a pastry (such as doughnuts) is to provide something with a large amount of sugar and large air pockets with the entire structure remaining stable and edible (sounds like robotics - drill as many holes as possible without making the robot break in half). Krispuy Kreme fulfills this perfectly and even provides them fresh, so they are wonderful. The doughnuts at Dunkin Donuts are much more diverse, but they are much closer to being bagels than doughnuts. They are very thick and dense (good for dipping, but very bad without a drink) which may appeal to some people"s tastes, but Kripsy Kremes are much truer doughnuts (this is really asking for a well-documented scientific study).

and thus...Krispy Kreme is the winner!

I must vote for the Kremes, because I only care about one doughnut: Custard-filled.

When looking at custard-filled doughnuts, I have never found anything to compare with Krispy Kreme. (Although, I haven't yet tried the local Kreme competition, Lamar's)

Hmm... maybe you wouldn't be so fat if it didn't take six donuts to fill you. And why is the opening of a store that looks like the other ten thousand an event, I ask? Do they have more than ten different kinds of donuts there or something?

This is true- a KK opened recently in a neighboring town (Milford) from where I work (Fairfield). Traffic was backed up for 2 miles with a line of people that spread well accross the large plaza parking lot, all wishing the grandeur of delectable doughnuts. I heard there was some sort of promotion- where the first customer of the newly opened shop would recieved 1 year of donuts free.

ooooh my vote is krispy kreme...although there doesnt seem to be either of the chains within this college town of mine. I know for a fact the nearest one to here is in bakersfield.

Dunkin’s is oh-so-much better than Krispy Kreme; and I say that being a New England transplant originally from the south, or “Krispy Kreme Country”.

I will use the information about the French translation of Kreme to gross-out my turncoat friends when they start lauding the virtues of a Krispy Kreme way of life.

Choosing Dunkin’s, I at least feel that my once in a while treat isn’t a crazily terrible self indulgence. Krispy’s in two words, are just too SICKENLY SWEET. If I wanted to be sent into a diabetic coma I would've opted for the funner and slower-acting method of eating a little too much sugar or carb over a long period of time.

But then all donut peddlers are devils in my view, Dunkin’s is just the lesser of the two... or are they? I recently heard that the company owns a lab that studies food addiction. Now, why ever would that be? Can anyone confirm this as fact, or, more hopefully, debunk as rumor?

My advice: Skip the morning coffee & donut run and eat a beignet instead.

I'm from New England (the home of Dunkin' Donuts) and I'm going to school in Indiana.

I'm addicted to Krispy Kremes. I have a box sitting on my desk right now, actually...

Maybe the Dunkin Donuts up north are better than the ones down here. Even though I am not a big fan of sweets, a hot fresh Krispy Kreme is far better than heavy, cakey, dry Dunkin Donut any day.

None of the above. Ace Donut in Irvine, CA, is about eleventy-zillion times better than either chain in the poll.

Depends on what you mean by "better", but aside from their coffee and white-marble-frosted donuts, DD has nothing on KK...except that there's a DD on the way to work and not a KK. Ah, the suffering!:ahh:

It's not even close. Krispy Kreme's are infinitely better. So much so, I don't even care about the necro rez of a 2003 thread, because it shows how much better they are! :D

In FIRST, there is often no right or wrong answer to the questions we face. But this is not one of those cases - Krispy Kreme is the only right answer.

KK, then a Starbucks Drive thru for coffee!

The best of each realm...

Between these two, Dunkin Donuts.

More flavors, better coffee, overall better. (I'm personally biased towards their maple frosted and double chocolate donuts). I've never been much of a fan of glazed donuts.

But of all donut places, Neil's Donuts (http://www.neilsdonuts.com/) definitely tops the list.

Third down on the left (http://www.krispykreme.com/varieties.html)Can't say I have, although next time I'm down South I'll have to try some. My ventures into the land of KK have been limited to traditional glazed, as one has to go really out of their way to end up in a KK store north of the Mason Dixon line.

OK, I didn't weigh in on this the first time around but since you are all jumping on an almost antique thread here goes. KK's are not donuts, they are just fried air with a sugar coating. My favorite DD was the Buttermilk even though it didn't look like a donut at least it had some weight to it. The DD on my way to work stopped selling them a few months back.

Double D's all the way...
Krispy Kreme is just the same ol , same ol... and their designer coffee is high priced watered down Star Bucks.

DD's coffee 100% better! Jumbo large black and a dozen holes the breakfast of champions!

OT but nice story... Back when I was the HYIC of SDS up in NY there were only three company rules;
1. You wired , you fired!
2. Drive one of my vans drunk, and I kill you!
3. Don't mess with me in the morning before my first pot of coffee.

When drivers had something to tell me they knew would upset me... they would sneak a large coffee from DD on my desk and run from the office till I finished it.

When I walked in one morning and found six large coffees and two dozen donuts on my desk... I went checking vans. Sure enough...one had a new dent in it.
