Since there is an underrated movie thread, what is the most overrated movie ever?
My Picks:
Titanic
Episode I & II
Moulin Rouge

Titanic. Ep. 1 was overrated, Ep. 2 was better than 1, but still overdone... Signs, i didn't like. I can't think of what else...
And if anybody even dares to name LotR as an overrated movie, there's gonna be some major pain and suffering goin on here.
I don't know how in the world it ever became a big hit. All it was was an extended live action Bugs Bunny cartoon. Whoop-de-doo!

My eyes! My eyes! I can't get the image of that movie out of my eyes! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!

Episode I was SOOOOOO BORING.
LotR just MUTILATED Episode II. That is why I want The Matrix II & III to over-hrough LotR.

Titan A.E.--they hyped and hyped for TWO YEARS. I was so upset I didn't get to see it in theatres. AND IT SUCKED. BAD.

I actually thought Titan A.E. was pretty good, but that's just me.
My pick of most overrated movie is a tie between both Harry Potter movies.
Without a doubt, Titanic. Whoopie. A ship that sinks.

i think that Lord of the Rings was a boring movie, its tooo long cant sit in not ment for large people movie seat that long
Most overrated movie has got to be "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" The only good thing to come from it was that great Mountain Dew spoof commercial.

I know! I saw about 30 minutes of that crap. That movie had all the quality of an over extended oboe solo.

Forest Gump.
If I wanted to watch Tom Hanks play a retard, I would have watched Big. Oh wait, that movie sucked, too.
Vanilla Sky and Moulin Rouge are up there, too.

Read the book.
Read the book.
Read the book.
Then read 2010.
Then read 2061.
Then read 3001.
Then tell me that any of them suck.
Moving on, how can you say, "any anime." There are many anime movies out there that people have never heard of that are super awesome. How many people had heard about Cowboy Bebop or .hack//sign before Williams Street brought them to light (and these are some of the greatest literary works made by man). Jeebus, man, have a little cultural awareness--this little island is 500 years ahead of us in entertainment--THEY ARE AWESOME. Granted, they have their garbage (more of it actually, do to the freeness of expression in their society vs. ours), but the good stuff is so much better. Tell me that you can watch Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heavan's Door without at least once standing up and shouting, "this is awesome!"
Seriously, how could you call a small subculture in America overrepresented? How can you begin to compare any of the last ten movies you've seen to the lowliest of Ghost in the Shell, to the pinnacle of 08th MS team. Because they have the courage to expect at least part of thier audience to have a brain and think more than "ooh, flashy graphics" they are over rated?

I was thinking exactly of that movie
and then there's my fav.
Princess Mononoko (I KNOW i spelled that wrong)
there are others but I'm not gonna type them in here b/c
I'll end up butchering the names (I can't spell for monkey wrenches)
and they have GREAT story plots that people don't give a thought
to simply b/c 'it's a cartoon'
even if the Matrix or LotR were made of stick figures, they would
still have an AMAZING story plot.
Try to look past the "little drawings [that] move around pretending to be human" and see what the artist/writer/directer is trying to tell you through the "little drawings [that] move around pretending to be human!"

Well, you apparently believe one of three things:
1) "All cartoons are for babies"
This is not a very good view to have, because it shows that you cannot think.
2) "Japanese people SUCK"
Can anyone say prejudice? As I said above, think.
3) "'Live-Action' movies must be more realistic than anime, because anime is . . . not."
Let me call something to your attention. In the movie Spiderman, the concept of gravity consisted of characters moving in a straight line, and reversing direction at the top. In contrast, Ghost in the Shell producers and animators went to shooting ranges to more accurately reproduce the effect of bullets hitting stuff. Which do you think is more realistic?
Now yes, I admit that anime does have its absolutely terrible shows (coughcoughgaogaiganchokedie), but there are some awesometastickal things that have come out of it. All I can say is:
Know what you're talking about before it's too late.

Anime is awful for these reasons:
1. Pointless plots... whooohoo who cares about power ranger wannabes going after some freak monster or after some magical balls.
2. Watching anime is about the same thing as staring at a strobe light...how entertaining...No wonder Japaneese kids were always seizuring from the shows.
3. Beavis & Butthead and the Simpsons are the only cartoons that ever were good...

what you dont understand is that anime is an art form. regardless of what you think of it there is no right in putting down art. Art has beauty and if you object to it then so be it, but dont criticize others just because you dont like a certain thing...

SwordSerenity:
Art, in general may be beauty. Although I personally like to draw anime, personally I think the shows themselves are a bit trite. I have to analyze them to figure out how to draw the chars, but other than that, anime shows are a little lame. Someone disliking Anime is not disliking the whole existence of art, just one part of it. In this case, not even the part, but how it is used.
Heh...American anime: DBZ.
Evangelion, Metropolis, Princess Mononke, Trigun
Evangelion is the only one of those three that has strobe type bits, and it is done flashing words, to induce confusion and emotion. Metropolis has some interesting metaphors for power/government/class inequity. Princess Mononke seems to not have a 'bad' guy, but two opposing forces, nature and human development. Trigun was cool, and was related to responsibility regret and remorse.
Watch them subtitled so you can get the emotion that is conveyed by the original actors, and get a more accurate translation.
When you have only seen one or two FIRST robots, does that qualify you to make generalizations about FIRST robots as a whole?

And is giving more ignorance an adequate response to having your ignorance pointed to you. Again, just because your little sibling watches anime for small children doesn't mean that all anime is just like that. Remember, Pokemon is anime. Anime is not necesarily Pokemon. (As a side not, if you've ever seen Pokemon subtitled, it's quite awesome and very hilarious. Too bad they have to cut out half of Jesse and James' cross dressing for American audiences.)
