Also, when you're sitting in pre-calc class and you look up at the clock and see the time 1:11 almost everyday and think "oh yes, Wildstang", or when you get out of school and hope to see 2:34 on the clock.

it's been said before, but it actually happened...

My family went out for a Mother's Day dinner, and the final total came to $236. (lots of people)

My dad took the bill, and read it as it was handed to him. Soon as he said "236," I instincively shouted out "Techno Tics"

My family looked at me wierd, I just shrugged.

-you insist that all of the seniors on your team get prom dates, because you know they need to get out
-3 of the 6 guys prom dates are on FIRST teams
-one of them is you
-your parents ask for the computer, but then proceed to see you on cd, and go "nevermind, i'll come back later" [just happened]
-your parents don't worry about you spending 6 weeks in one room with 15 men between the ages of 17 and 50 until the wee hours of the morning
-you take pieces of the previous year's robot, because you know it will be sacrificed, but you must always have a part of it
-your friends ask you what the big chunk of metal their brother brought home last night is.....and you get either insulted or tell her to steal it
-your father thinks you have an addiction to cd and gets upset when he sees you on [he thinks the seasons is over!!]
-your friends dont know what you are talking about for the 6 weeks of build season, but smile and nod because they know you have too much caffine in your system to shut up
-you know what you are getting the team seniors for graduation presants [DEW CUBE!!!]
-you give people evil stares if they ask you if FIRST is like battlebots
-people have stopped mentioning battlebots in your presance for fear of you freaking out
-your non-FIRST friends know there are large chunks of time in the winter when they will not see you, but you are not hibernating
-your non-FIRST teacher lets you come into his room during study hall to let you sleep [after the build period of course] because your study hall teacher believes in "silent study" but they still won't let you sleep [i dont snore!!]
-your team can taste the difference in shipments of DEW
-your team found walking to FIESTA at nationals to buy DEW was not a option, it was a way of life
-your team figured out the DEW bank can hold 8.3 lieters of DEW, but everyone on the team checked the calculations
-your friends have to sneak you DEW cuz they know you can't go cold turkey and your parents refuse to buy it
-your FIRST seniors bring you dew in the morning after they know you were writing an essay until 3 am [cuz you no longer have an excuse to not fall asleep, build season is OVER :( ]
-you hang out with FIRST people outside of competions and meetings
-your team starts team-dating the team you used to mentor [WOO go 173-571]
-only one person on your team understands your gibberish, however, it always ends with BAH [steve!!]
-you put up an away message to post on CD [darnm those people, always distracting]
-your engineers laugh when you try to find guys at a robotics competion
-your engineers know who you are dating, your parents don't cuz he's at your pits, when he has a break.....maybe

...when that last statistic makes you smile
...when you have more than three reasons your a FIRSTaholic
...when that stastic makes you smile too.
...when you learn trig so you can make better mill patterns for the wheel

...when you plan on posting in this fourm again

Control system fabrication for next year has already gone under brainstorming, diagrammming, and we're about to order our parts!

...and we ARE having a LAN party fundraiser, 6 days from now! ::laughs manically (sp?)::

When at baccalaureate mass, you represent your robotics team using the regional championship trophy and control board as symbols.

I had to walk down the church aisle carrying that trophy... over my head!! All the while moving at a rather slow pace so that people before me could place their symbols down. We had the biggest display of every other club/team. Most of them brought like a basketball or a t-shirt, generally something small. HaHa we went all out :D Oh! all this while wearing my white gown and my lovely red tips redyed to contrast nicely...

A. csc^2 x - sec^2 x

and turns out that the answer is C just because of one little thing I didn't pay attention to.

yeah! i do that all the time! like, i'll just tell myself to remember that i ended on cyber blue, robodawgs, or whichever team i end on... which my mom finds strange, and will ask me why i just don't stop at the end of a chapter.,, but that's just no fun.

I WISH more schools around here would show more interest in robotics....

i want to go to a mall and look at people wearing team shirts.... on mother's day i went to lunch in valpo, indiana, and saw a guy from wheeler's robotics team and i was jumping around b/c it was the first time i'd ever bumped into another FIRSTer outside of competitions or expos and stuff.... the closest teams to us are wheeler, 461, any chicago teams and wildstang, and all of those aren't too close.....

i think i'm going to take over the neighboring school districts and force them to start a team. they'll thank me later.

hehe... the greatest thing I ever saw... where our team is 'centrally' located in Towanda.... we are near nothing... so we drive into the nearby cities (about 1-1.5 hour drives) for adventures..... a couple of weeks ago, went to Binghamton to go to dinner at Hooters..... I thought I was going to fall off my stool when I saw someone walk through with a Championship Event shirt on!.... I wish I had the guts to ask him where he was from... becuase he sure wasn't from our team.... and there aren't any really close teams around here!

When you look at the above post and begin calculating 159! by hand. And get past a big number (50!) before you realize a nice thing called Mathcad. And you kick yourself.

I also keep on seeing red sweatshirts and thinking they're our rbotics team sweatshirts....

Especially when that article of clothing is an outrageous denim jump suit. BTW, has anyone noticed how sunglasses are becoming increasingly more like safety glasses? It was uncanny how similar the two look. I'm thinking, be a trend setter and just wear my safety glasses all the time!;)

Heh, our Teacher actually did this all throughout chicago. Even while he was driving...we're like "Why...?"

NOTE: Our saftey glasses were the cool tinted ones. When you first see them you're like "Okay...this is cool...sorta". Then you realize how bad they are when you're trying to see that spot on the robot in the dark UCF pits and can't quite see it, and begin ripping the safety glasses off of your head :p

what ARE you talking about? i had to leave midwest regional early this year for indiana's state science olympiad competition, (which i DID NOT want to go to- but since i was team captian, i kind of had to....) and i wore my goggles all the way there- 5 hour drive, and all the time i was at state... except on my head, because they aren't osha approved splash goggles and i'm a chemistry freak... and i was also wearing my wildstang bandanna AND because those stupid SOAP stamps i let Happy and Mike from 108 put on me apparently used permanent ink, dark blue soap and wash stamps, even though we really didn't use the programs, only because they were my friends and i let them stamp me... but at least they had he cute "WASH with SOAP" saying.....

-You think you’ve failed in life because one of the freshmen on the team thought of compact disc when you said CD
-You wake up earlier/later than you need to just so it aligns with one of your favorite FIRST teams(I’m currently waking up 3 minutes earlier than usual in honor of 527, who picked us at SBPLI even though we didn’t work most of Thursday and Friday :D)
-You’re making a fake driver’s license for your MOEstix
-You plan to use it for FIRST related purposes(take that NJ driving laws!)
-You refer to your teams supply of Sterilite containers as your babies
-You cry when you see stupid non-FIRST Frosh using them (they still haven’t returned the bottom of one of them :yikes:!)
-You made up your own results for nationals even though you weren’t there
-You’re still convinced they really happened
-You almost have a heart attack when you see someone wearing a FIRST shirt, or carrying a FURY bag(even though everyone in the school has gotten at least two)

When, on your first day back to work at the state attorney's office, you start talking to one of your co-workers who attends the University of Florida. Your other co-workers ask ya how robotic's has been, and he says something about the robotics at UF. Needless to say, no work gets done for another 20-30 minutes and a convo on robotics proceeds, lol. (It's good to be in I.T. ;) )

*Magnet Coordinator: Broward County schools created a magnet program system, in which certain schools are deemed to have specialties. Dillard High School has both the Performing arts magnet and the Emerging Computer Technology Magnet. So, our school, in theory, gets all of the high technology students from around the third largest school district in the country. Each magnet program has a coordinator, in charge of running that program from all ends. Ours is amazing, and great at her job. Thus, we get everything that we're allowed to, and some things we're not ;)

You know your school is warming to FIRST when they set their fundraiser on the job to raise money for the robotics team.

Backstory: I go to SLUH, a Jesuit institution, and much of the schools cash flow comes from alumni and local business. Last year wasn't an issue because we got the NASA grant, but to get the NASA grant again this year, we need to show 6K of our own funding. When the administration got word of this, the told us not to try to do it ourselves. There reasoning is this: Say we (the robotics team) manages to procure a few thousand dollers from a local business. When the school's guy calls that same business to push for, say, 20K in donations, the business can say "we already donated to your team etc." and the school has lost that valualble source of $$. On the other hand, if the school's guy calls the same business without our having called them, he can say: I need a whole lotta money and lots will goto our robotics team. then the business will say: We will sell our company to our competitors and give you all the proceeds. And everyone is happy.

So we have professionals doing our fundraising. How awesome.

When you already have all the competitions date written down on your calender and colored in with Lime Green crayon so you wont forget. (and kick-off hasn't even happened yet!)

When you tell your dad that fifty bucks is nice and all but you'd rather still go to competition instead of work that day.

Your school bands you from wearing your lime green socks anymore.

You know you're addicted to FIRST when...

You do get bored and decide to do this to your car...

A FIRST inspired system... (http://forums.chiefdelphi.com/showthread.php?t=22904)

or you allow yourself and a couple students to do this to your car during a mini-comp road trip..

Madness.. pure madness I tell ya' (http://forums.chiefdelphi.com/showpost.php?p=198220&postcount=33)

You know that you're Passionate about FIRST when:
(All of which I've seen from one or more of the college advisors on Team 461)

1. You come back from Winter vacation early to prepare for the kickoff.
2. You make a choice after your sophomore year that you'd be best off spending at extra year at college (and paying the out of state tuition) so that you can lighten your load and be more accessible FIRST mentor.
3. You spend time in professors office hours getting ahead on material so that you can apply it to a design.
4. You realize that your 21st birthday will occur during the last week of the build season this year, and it doesn't annoy or bother you.
5. When you put into your weekly schedule two all-nighters per week.
6. You take as a loss some future job opportunities by taking a .4 or .5 lower GPA than you're capable of in hopes that you're practical design and leadership experience will shimmer in your resume brighter than the magic number.

...when you check cd.pubarso.com every 20 mins to see if Brandon had updated it, even though its like 4am...

...When the school board is confused at where all the reams of paper went, cause you had to print up some rule books...

...when your english teacher yells at you cause you capitalize the word FIRST everytime you write it, even when its not robotics related...

...when you talk to sarah about how CD doesnt feel the same with out the colors being orange and black, and listen to each other for an hour on why we want our who-am-i pics back...

Thats all for now

......when you note a lack of teachers to continue the team, go to a local college and become a mentor for the team, schedule your classes so that you can be available seven days a week for robotics......and spend the first day of your winter break at said school planning robotics........

......when you design your team's shirt with 15000 digits of pi on it, because your team number appears three times in those digits......

......when you realize that you've been staring at CD for hours and haven't gotten up - or eaten - or anything else - and it isn't even the build season yet.....

......when you make up an AIM screen name with both your robot name AND number in it.....and use it.......
