As usual..... I see no reason why Chuck & 84 will not be competing... looking forward to a good 'ol hometown showdown!
Team 522, The Robo Wizards form McKee H.S., the #1 Robotics Team in N.Y.C, graciously accepts your invitation to compete in this years Pa. Robot Challenge. "Gloria" and her team mates anxiously await the competition, from the finest collection of Robotic Teams on the entire east coast. Providing we can scrape together the necessary funding, we wouldn't miss it for the world!
Good luck to all the teams in their respective regional competitions.

Hurry and register fast the comp is fast aproaching and only about 5 teams have signed up. It wouldnt be right if less than 20 came so lets see some names going on the list.
Keith Chester
25-03-2003, 21:42
Where's the list to sign up for, because 25 will definately show up after the blast that was the last one. (You guys were great last year.)
That would make for an interesting finals alliance selection :) And for once, I don't think PARC conflicts with any school dances :) (Last year, I went to PARC instead of prom...not like I would have gone to prom anyways...but still :P)

234 would love to be there...anybody from indiana interested in sharing a bus???
Dave_222
29-03-2003, 22:04
If 234 would come that would be soooooo awsome that would be teams from 7 states that come and a new team to the park and an awsome team at that.
Mike Norton
01-04-2003, 12:21
Is there going to be any competition like you had last year.
Just some thoughts
1) Human player stack 8 high in the fastest time.
2) Robot knocking the most bins in 15 sec.

I sure hope they come. Those rookies were great at J&J. Manville really earned their 4th seed.

We're up for it, for sure!
We need to rake up some cash, but yeah, we'd love to. I couldn't find detailed info re: cost and date on the site, but I just got back from the regional (and dinner) and my brain didnt try to look too hard. Will try tomorrow, and talk about it with the team on tuesday (read: making sure they're able to scrape more money together).
Our entire team has FIRST fever now -- it's nuts :)

ARGGGGGHHHHHHHH!
We'd love to come considering it'd be close and we could get transportation easily, but being in the middle of exam week does not help most teams.

Miss Daisy will be there again...PARC is one of the best off season events that we attend, IMO.
(the obvious exception is Ramp Riot :D ;) )

The smart people who are in APs and want to get into good colleges.
(this i actually take seriously)
I would love to see a mini game where there were 20 bins on each side of the field, and 2 at a time, robots battle it out for who can make the biggest stack within oh say 3 minutes. That would be so cool. Or even a stacking contest for humans where they would have to make the highest stack in 2 minutes. With a little help from some people on my team, I put 14 in the air. We would've made 15 if it weren't for the ceiling. Who needs that anyway... ceiling HA.
Is there any way you could put out a listing of mini-games before the event? That would be cool. Thanks. See you there.
Dave_222
14-04-2003, 16:29
There is speculation as to what the mini rounds are going to be and i will post them later tonight all i can say right now is there will be a stacking round auton round and king o the hill round. I will fill you in on specifics when i get them .

I think the autorun mini game should be a most creative autorun dance program. I have been dying to write some code to do some figure 8s. U could get someone from every team to judge it.
Erin Rapacki
15-04-2003, 16:23
judge AI based on how many bins they knock down in one shot... if there is a tie, you can consider speed and such

Jared Russell
15-04-2003, 16:58
Whatever it is, PLEASE don't make the minigame focus on something intrinsic to a particular robot -
No "knock down all the bins fastest"
No "who can make the biggest stack"
No "tug of war"
Successful minigames are those which require skill, creativity, and are just fun. Not those that focus on a particular robot trait potentially leaving many robots unqualified.
That said, I think that games that focus on autonomous dances or the like would be most enjoyable; the idea of a human player contest also sounds like fun. Or maybe a game that handicaps a driver through blindfolds or earmuffs...
camtunkpa
15-04-2003, 20:25
Our fun rounds are going to be pretty much robot focused....as for the details we have not layed them out. We will tink about non-robot specific games in the future, we just didn't have much time to come up with games. Can't wait to see you all at the PARC!1
Dave_222
15-04-2003, 20:54
Like cliff said we are really short on time and didn't have too much time to tinker with specialty rounds and i do apologize to the teams that will be left out but i think we will more or less get all of the robots into some sort of niche. As for next year we will tinker with new options.
Heh. Just have fun with the specialty ones. Last year, there was a goal pulling contest. Chuck had no way to attach to the three-goal fixture so instead of using the robot...the entire team just ran onto the field and shoved it. I think we won, too :P
The Lucas
16-04-2003, 23:58
We tied for first in the robot pull. I think team 75 was the other winner. We didnt think our speed geared robot could pull all that weight, so we were thinking of just figure skating with the bot to the music of our green kazoos. Some poeple may have witnessed the kazoo music practice session. We just tried it and found out that not only could our robot pull the goals but it quickly accelerated to over 10 ft/s. It made a tremendous shockwave when it hit the alliance station..:D We lost the secret coin toss so we didnt get the trophy. However, the Tigertrons made good on their word and mailed us a replica trophy.

433 would love to team with two such great teams (618 and 222). We had a great time in Houston. Thanks to you both.
Mer
I really want one of those button-up firebirds shirts. I will be willing to trade one of my shirts for one of those.
Meredith Rice
21-04-2003, 18:33
The navy ones our mentors had or last year's maroon polos. We don't wear the maroon ones anymore. We opted for navy and orange this year. Maybe you can have one of our old ones.
I'm talking about the navy and orange ones that button all of the way up. They are really cool looking. I might even be able to throw in a couple moestix if I can get the one I want.
Meredith Rice
21-04-2003, 19:02
Well i think your out of luck because we just ordered those shirts and we didnt order extras. You are welcome to pay us (13 bucks) and we will order them for you but trading is not an option. Sorry to disappoint you. Did I already tell you this at the airport?
Yes, I was the one heckling you at the airport. If I send you the money now, could you have the shirt by PARC? If you could, I will send it out tomorrow.

...a little birdie told me that the PARC officials decided to allow 30 teams this year and due to a team dropping out there is one slot left open....the birdie also said if there was a team out there who really wanted to come and could make the arrangements really fast (competition is May 10 as in this Saturday!!) ....and then were the first ones to register for the alternate list on the Tigertron's website that there is a chance they would be let in to compete in this AWESOME competition......*chirp chirp*
Yan Wang
07-05-2003, 17:55
Hm...
If only 1 team is signed up for a minicomp, what happens? Also, for minirounds with 2 teams, I think best out of 3 should be the format for it.
Charlie222
07-05-2003, 18:02
If only one team signs up perhaps Team #222 will compete in that special round just to give you some competition :D but seriously....if only 2 teams sign up I think we would at least consider best 2 out of 3 format just to give it some more flair. We'll let you know once we determine what special rounds each team is competing in.
Yan Wang
07-05-2003, 18:06
Hm... you guys should send the team list and minicomp info to Brandon so he can add it as a ventures offseason event. Might be too late or too early (as most teams haven't selected a minicomp it seems...).

Yan Wang
09-05-2003, 17:00
Any predictions on PARC?
I'm thinking that 25 will end up winning (and probably at the koh too) and that the stacking competition is very very difficult to determine because we stack at nearly identical speeds. I want to congratulate the team signed up for the figure 8 cause that's takes guts and a whole lot of testing :)
