Was FIRST operational during the first gulf war? Were they not formed yet? Or did they postpone due to war?

Just curious,

FIRST began in 1992, after the war.

If I remember correctly, the gulf war was 1991, and FIRST was started in '92

If I remember correctly, the Gulf War did begin in 1991, but carried on into 1992. But I may be mistaken.

(i think) actually it (the conflict) went from august 1990 to about march 1991 (or something like that)

the actual war was from mid-january '91 to end of february

well for starters i dont think congress ever acctually declared war, making it a police action, i could be wrong though.
Next it ended toward the end of 1991, but our few POW wernt returned until late 1992, but if you take into consideration, that FIRST would have had to been organized in advanced, then i would think that yes FIRST had been around, just there were no competitions yet

Sorry, but everybody in this thread is wrong about the Gulf War.

The Gulf War was the result of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on August 2nd, 1990. The US and Coalition forces then proceeded in an build up of forces in the Gulf in an operation called Desert Shield. The UN then pasted numerous resolutions against Iraq and issued an ultimatum to Iraq to leave Kuwait by January 15th, 1991. Iraq did not comply, and Coalition aircraft commenced hostilities on January 16th, 1991. The ground war began on Feburary 24th and lasted for 100 hours. The war ended with Iraq settling on a cease fire and all our POWs were returned in March. (except for Speicher)

Its kinda of sad that nobody could nail down the year that the Gulf War started. :ahh:

Excellent history, but the GROUND WAR lasted 100 hours. The air sorties for the war lasted much longer.
