So who else's brains are hurting from the AIME now, eh?
I'd probably go insane, twice, if I qualified for the USAMO... First when I'd find out I'd done well enough, then later after the test, or maybe during... 6 problems, 9 hours, split across 2 days...
And apparently that's not even the last test in the series!

I took the AIME today... I think I answered 4 problems (out of 15). I don't think I need to worry about the next level.
No, the USAMO isn't the last step, but the AIME is the last step for me. I did answer 8, but i know i got some wrong, and it still wouldn't have been enough. Does anyone have an answer key? or some answers they know are correct?

I have not yet taken it, the only time we could find was to start at 9:00 tonight. So if anyone does have the answers, which if I remember correctly from last year are not released for a while, please don't post them today.
I took it last year and only got 2 questions right. I hope I do better this year.
I answered all of them, albeit 4 of them with totally random guesses.
I have correct answers for quite a few of them, and would like to get the others, so does anyone know when it is safe to post them?

It should be safe to post them now, as it is required that all schools give the test on March 25.
Oh well, if i get in trouble, it's your fault.:D
Here's what I got as the right answers:
1. 839
2. 301
3. 484
4. 012
5. 505
6. 348
7. 380
8. 129
9. 625 (two others here got 615, and they are just as sure of their answers as I am)
10.
11.
12.
13. 678 (not so sure)
14. 127
15.
Our school had spring break and our teacher was lazy, so we are taking the backup test right before nats :P
We have 3 members of our team taking the test.

1. 835
2. 482
3.
4.
5.
6. 152
7.
8.
9. 746
10.
11.
12.
13. 005
14.
15.
I guessed 080 for #10 (someone else put 085, which he seemed pretty sure of), and I filled the rest with 42. ;)
The highest AMC12 score at our school was 106.5, and nobody answered more than 8 AIME problems, I think. Qualifying for USAMO combines the AMC and the AIME, but we don't know the formula. Still, I kinda doubt that anyone at NHS will be worrying about the USAMO this year. :P
#2 is 301.
Even though I did not make the cut, i susspect my school has a fair number of USAMO people-- we're one of "those" schools. Anatoly Pregal is in i'm sure (he's the #3 Intel Science Search finalist, and wins insane numbers of awards, etc. He made the cut last year too). I think my final score was 134 (104+30)
The formula is: AMC+ (10*AIME). If the combined is at least 200, then your in.

yeah, i qualified for that 2 years ago, but ever since then my scores have been declining, so i havent been able to take the AIME, when i did take it i got 4 right as a 10th grader which tied the two seniors who took the test, i was proud of myself, but my intelligence has apparantly slipped away... good luck guys, those problems really annoy the brain, but you get to miss school

Umm...
According to the answers I got, those are all wrong....
I checked with 4 others afterwards, and we all agreed with 1-8 and 14.

*shrugs*
So I got zero. Sorry to've wasted your reading space. I'll let you know if our math teachers let out the correct answers before yours do.
</repetition of wastefulness>
Sorry if I came out as insulting. It is still possible that the people I have talked to have all made the same mistake as me.
Just be glad you guys qualified, i didnt.... i wanted to, but no.... i had to make my classic mistakes on the AMC and pretend that cubes have 4 sides or something stupid like that.... stupid, stupid, stupid... everyone who qualified for the AIME should be very happy, and even getting one is hard enough, i know, ive tried before. maybe both answers are right :), highly unlikely, but just maybe...... Anyway, good job to all of you
number 9 was definetely 615, the two of us in my school who took it both got that

Eh, 's all good. I've been kinda stressed out 'cuz of school lately, 's my problem. That and I reserved all my AMC-stupidity for the AIME.
Hm. On #1 I did get 839 in my work afer all, only I wrote it as 835 where I listed my answers down. Hope I didn't do that on the bubble-in sheet too.:o Also, my previous post was miscopied; I had 304 for #2, and 482 for #3. Off-by-2-or-3 errors, heh...
((3!)!)!/3! = 720!/6 = 719! * 720/6 = 719! * 120
719 + 120 = 839
I think I was just stupid on #2 and forgot to subtract out the interiors of the green circles. I did:
k=1 to 50 sigma(pi*(2k)^2) = 4*pi*50*51*52/6 = arithmetic... the ratio is arithmetic/100pi... pi's cancel out, so the answer is arithmetic/pi + 100
but I now think the expression must be pi*((2k)^2 - (2k-1)^2). Whatever that comes out to.
On number three, I discovered that 3*5=13, hence my off-by-two error. Otherwise, the number-crunching was just (2*1)+(3*2)+(5*3)+...+(13*7).
I... didn't get #4, so I'll leave off here.

emmm it bring back painful meomeries:
last years i got 116 on amc 12 and then got like 8 on the aime(for people who know this kinda of stuff, thatz a ridicously good score). i was so proud of my self... then it hit me! i can't go on to teh next round(usamo) because i have to be a permanent resident!!!ahhhhh!!! and to think i worked so hard... this is depressing.

oh ya to people who wonder about the not a permnant resident stuff, i am a legal alien.
lol i love posting in old threads
USAMO Qualifiers by State (http://www.unl.edu/amc/e-exams/e8-usamo/e8-1-usamoarchive/2005-ua/05usamoqualstate.html)
The results are in. I should have guessed, especially after getting screwed in Philly on Saturday.
I got a 139.5 on AMC-12A and 9 on AIME-1, giving me a USAMO index of 229.5. I needed a 233.
God help me when college decisions come in later this week.
That's still a very good score!
I was a 109 AMC12-A, 5 AIME.... grand total of 159.
