View Full Version : Divisions are out!!
Hey all, FIRST has finally posted the division each team is in. Check it out on their site: http://www.usfirst.org/frc/map/FMPro?-db=team%20events.fp5&-lay=web&-format=team_list.htm&event=CMP&event%20year=2003&status=signed%20up&-sortfield=team%20id&-max=all&-find.
[BTW: FIRST was once again predictable in their divisional assignments: Curie, Newton, Galileo, Archimedes | Curie, Newton, Galileo, Archimedes | etc :) ]
[BTW: You can see a list of teams for each division (directly from FIRST's site) by clicking on one of the following links: Curie (http://www.usfirst.org/frc/public/FMPro?-db=team%20events.fp5&-lay=web&-format=division_team_list.htm&event=CMP&event%20year=2003&status=signed%20up&division=curie&-sortfield=team%20id&-max=all&-find), Newton (http://www.usfirst.org/frc/public/FMPro?-db=team%20events.fp5&-lay=web&-format=division_team_list.htm&event=CMP&event%20year=2003&status=signed%20up&division=newton&-sortfield=team%20id&-max=all&-find), Galileo (http://www.usfirst.org/frc/public/FMPro?-db=team%20events.fp5&-lay=web&-format=division_team_list.htm&event=CMP&event%20year=2003&status=signed%20up&division=galileo&-sortfield=team%20id&-max=all&-find), Archimedes (http://www.usfirst.org/frc/public/FMPro?-db=team%20events.fp5&-lay=web&-format=division_team_list.htm&event=CMP&event%20year=2003&status=signed%20up&division=archimedes&-sortfield=team%20id&-max=all&-find)]

This might be a stupid question, but say a team qualified this weekend and went to the championship, would it shift everyone down, and put everyone in a different division.

Along with the Technokats!
(I loved team 45 - their treads were always so awesome :D )

To make things easy I pasted the list into Excel and sorted by division. I'll attach it to this post.

Very well could be, due to the method used to determine divisional assignments--just a 1,2,3,4 down the list. However, if I remember correctly, last year FIRST didn't alter the division a team was placed in once they were released. Teams qualifying for the nationals after divisions were released simply got added to a division convenient in the eyes of FIRST.
[BTW: Hello Newton teams. How are ya?]

FIRST hit the nail right on the head with these divisions. They seem to be almost dead even! Judging from what I see, some key autonomous races to the top I would love to see...
Archimedes: 157 vs. 111
Curie: 25 vs. 121, 16 vs. 126,
Galileo: 312 vs 175, and just about anyone else in that division!
Newton: 27 vs 173, 254 vs 67.
And thats just to name a few!

Sweet!! 1077 is in the Galileo division. We pulled of Galileo Division champ's in 2001 with 59. Maybe we can pull it off this year as well. This is going to be fun!

Hellllo Galileo!
The last time we were in Galileo (2001) we were divisional runner up and #1 seed, so hopefully we will continue the lucky streak there and go farther.
Also, I believe Joel is right, divisions won't change. The qualifiers will just be added on. I think this is what happened in 2002, or thats what FIRST planned on doing in 2002

Archimedes isn't looking to shabby, either. 47, 65, 111, 201 (shameless plug, I know),365, 469. It'll be some good competition...
if we still havent heard from the waiting list on whether we are in, what chances do you guys think there are of teams still being admitted?

Hello all Newtons out there! 378 looks forward to seeing you. I don't know if any of the other teams from glancing at the list were with us were at the regionals we were at. Luck to all 4 divisions!

While I would assume it would be the case, but are all teams listed definitely going???
I know there have been some (possibly many) that were originally registered for the Nationals, but since the war started, many BOE's have canceled all school trips.
Does anyone know if this list includes cancellations?

I gotta get a picture!! Katie! I gotta get a pic/ w you too! W00T!
Hey, mabye there should be a nother CD Ring held at nats...
Archimedes Principle is the water displacement method of finding the volume of an irregular object. I really think Archimedes is the coolest because an hour before a deadline set by the king (punishable by death) to find the volume of a shield, Archimedes stood in a bathtub and figured out the water displacement method. He then ran naked through the streets to prove it to the king. I bet he was screaming GERONIMOE.
I see a bunch of heavy hitters in our division. 34, 65, 69, 85, 134, 157, 168, 177, 222, 226, 233, 306, 365, 384, 606, 692, and 1088 have all made it to the finals in at least one regional

But first we need to finish up our regionals at Rutgers. Good luck to all!!!!! Moe, we might need some spirit reinforcement concidering we are only travelling with a small team.
Team 435 will be in Curie! Can't wait to see you guys there!!!

234's in Curie this year :) hmmm so is a lot of good teams. Good luck to all you Curies and everyone! Remember to stop by 234's pit and say hi to me, or maybe I'll stop by your pits and say hi to you.
Anyone do a cross comparison between last year's and this year's division assignments? Who's the same, who's different?
Just wondering....
Also, would assigning teams to divisions by geography make sense...someday? When FIRST gets large enough I'll bet there will be the concept of "super-regionals" before nationals.....NCAA baseball-like.
KA-108
sweet...;)we got in to the nationals.
We look forward to doing well in Galileo, and we think that all teams we do really well. We look forward to seeing our alliance partners, the Thunderchickens (217) there. (we're still really sorry our autonomous screwed up in the semis). See you al there!!!!:)

All the divisions have at least 2 Canadian teams, except Galileo which only has 1 - Us of course.
It's gonna be good. :D
See everyone there!!!
Only 5 more days!!! Ahhhhhhhh!!!
There are alot of good bots this year. No one bot has really stood out as absolutly dominant and an underdog could get really hot and easily rise to the top of the heap and take it.
This is going to be outright exciting!

I see on FIRST's web site that they have added 6 teams, now how will that go about with they way they are doing divisions? Will they still put them in numerical order or something else?
814 is in Galileo!!!!
*goes to see who else is in the same one*

I'm predicting that from what i can see galileo is definately going to be one of the more spirited fields and will definately be having alot of cheering
(Thunder chickens and WBI are sure to make alot of noise just like in CHITown)
Sparky will be in Archimedes along with MOE
Team 967 is in Archimedes! team 111 I saw was also in our division. Lots of low profile ramp bots! definetly archimedes winning the whole sha'bang! (Give me a big enough lever and I'll lift the world. (something like that.)-archimedes (the original old school scientist.)
Oh anyone in our division look us up we got scorecards that were extremly popular in st. louis , all the judges had one!
It's gotta be good luck that 47 is in our division.

Cant forget two of the GL winners my team, 302, and 67 in Newton! Too bad 226 didnt make it, we would make another great team, good luck to everyone in newton, cant wait to get revenge on 180 for last year :) hehe.
I remember 378 in Cleveland and you guys rocked!! I can't wait to see you perform in TX cuz your bot is badazz!! Plus you have a cute driver;) But that's beside the point. I also think Galileo will tear things up b/c we have some great bots in there. Good luck to everyone and I'll see you all in four days!!!!
