i can only really speak for curie,

i liked baxter,

i also liked 121's overall design and like the fact that they could intentionally flip over who they wanted, it made me laugh when that happened

i hear a few people liked us

Baxter was extremely fast but could be pushed around pretty easily.

I can also only speak for Curie..

I really liked 188's simple and effective design. There was one team that had an obvious "weapon" of a stacker mechanism, I can't remember the team number anymore, but I know they flipped us and busted our electronics box. (The only match where we didn't have the hill).
60 with their feet were pretty effective, never got a chance to see how they worked though :(
Modesty aside, I like our bot (470), our downfall was miscommunication with our lead programmer about our auto code.

IMO Truck Town Thunder deserved that imagery award. They had a sweet looking bot. 236 also looked really good. another one of my favorites.

Actually, we never engaged in a pushing match at nationals(except with team 60 and we ended up spinning them). We had a problem tripping breakers if we pushed alot so we basicly used our speed to run away from everyone who pushed on us(making it look like we were getting pushed alot). We certaintly weren't the strongest but I think we are much stronger that most people thought(although it didn't matter cause if we used our strength we would've tripped out like crazy and been useless that last 15 seconds).

I have to say that 25 was the coolest robot in Curie. Fastest bot in the compeition and able to push 292 around like a rag doll...wow

thank you much :D..ours wasnt necessarily the best looking robot, but it accomplishes almost everything that we ask of it.

id have to say that i still love 71's bot.. the arm was a great idea, and the auto code was also pretty good.. it goes back for more stacks after the initial swat too..

Being the driver of 292, i can also agree that i am amazed by team 25. I didnt really hear or see of them before those Final rounds, and wow. Congrats on making it so far. Your bot is a monster.

How did you get so much speed AND power?

and also, in our defense, the last round our battery was flipping in and out which made it hard to fight back. One of the cables eventually came clear off the battery and we ended the match 30 seconds early.

2 CIM motors, and 2 Drill motors with a 4:1 gear ratio. The thing was the motors drained the battery too fast. The voltage went down from 9-10 volts every match.

236- no doubt about it. They were the fastest in Galileo and could grab boxes on the fly, then stack them in a second.. I still can't believe they slipped to the 5th pick- the # 1, 2, 3, and 4 picks were all king of the hill bots.. Without them we wouldn't have been able to do anything close to what we achieved.

(Clarify- the #2 team tried to pick #3, which rejected.. so when we (#4) picked 236, it was really the #5 pick)

I liked 25. Looks and functionality. When I was inspecting you guys, I was afraid to stick my hand into the cool looking mesh of metal that is your arms... sort of resembled scissors I guess. Reffing out on Curie, I saw what you guys were really capable of. Great design, simplicity and functionality at it's best. I must say that i loved 71's bot, that arm was awesome, it was powered by both of the CIM's, and was powerful as s***. I never really got a chance to check out 25's drivetrain, and i now i regret it. Is there a picture, or other discription anywhere?

P.S. i also loved the look of the mighty mouse.

Don't worry, we've got pics and descriptions galore. Contact me for it. I'll see if I can dig up a pick of our "demo" gearbox. "Big" Mike will tell you the dimensions of the thing by heart (he stared at the ACAD drawings for hours and even put some in 3d)

Galileo: 814, Spicy Mustard. ;) No, seriously, it's got a massive wooden claw...You just can't go wrong with wood.

Archimedes: 295. I've been impressed with them ever since I saw them in Richmond before any of the regionals even started.

Newton: 192, GRT. Thumbs up for STUDENT made bots! You don't see as much as you'd like.

Curie: Unfortunately, I cannot remember a single bot [that I liked] from this division. But Mark Leon was their announcer! Lucky people!!!

d00d i've been waiting for a thread like this for a while.

I've been in love with 343 metal-in-motion, codename Sail-bot since i saw them at their first competition(on webcast). When i saw them i said $@#$@#$@#$@# we need to build sails on our arms. nobody listened to me.

That huge black thing scared me too, the one that exploded at the top of the ramp. they had all these extensions and things to clear the stack. never saw it in action though.

1114 was another amazing robot. I was very dissapointed they didn't win the rookie award. Their design and implementation as a stacker was unimaginable.

358 was my fav going into the competition, though we beat them at LI, they were amazingly strong. and the crab walk drive train was functional at LI, which helped them a lot.

I can only coment on Curie as that is all I saw. I must admit that the were not the best looking but I believe the fastest bot there. Yep Team 25. Another bot that impressed me was Team 79. Great driver and he showed off the excellence of their robot.
BTW, Mark was the best MC and he was on Curie.

I didn't get a chance to see 111, but 25's robot was a very good robot [even though they were in Curie].

Out of Newton, I'd say 1114, or 19 [even though we tore up their drive in one of our matches], was one of my favorites. 27 also had a great robot. But I think, if 1114 or 19 wasn't there, it'd have to be the wedge one, even if they weren't in the Newton division.

I liked 312 for galileo. sort of like moe last year except those arms were impossible to move. That's where going under the bar helped. Am I the only one that would have liked to see 312 vs. 111. similar designs and concepts behind both 'bots.

YES!! I loved the wood and upholstery on you robot!!
I also liked 236, 68, 115, and the 48 mighty mouse robot.
also 303 could lay down their scoop and do exactly what 111
would do on top of the ramp.
279's front scoop was also really neat to watch deploy

thanks for the compliments, we were never moved when we had our arms down, and we here also pretty consistantly first to the wall as well. the winner of a 111 vs 312 (ignoring alliance partners) match would probably been who ever was the first one to fully deploy once on the ramp

I didn't really pay attention to any division other than Curie, but I'd say that within it, 25 and 79 are the two that really stand out for me... 25 because they were ridiculously fast and powerful - so powerful that they managed to snap one of our wheels completely off the axle (watch the webcast of match 109 - notice how we (610, allied with them) really don't do a lot of moving...) in autonomous mode... Props to 188 for a great, powerful design as well (it was awesome watching you and 781 battle in the quarter finals!! too bad one had to lose!)

As soon as we saw Wild Stang win it everyone on our team was like, "I wonder if FIRST would let us do a "scrimmage" with our alliance vs. thier's...??" But then we figured they'd say no because if we won then it would kinda make this year's competition look like a joke... ;) I still wanna do it tho... I know we could take them! Team 25 was great. Super fast...

111 was cool too. Best box tracker I've seen.

Didn't see any successful stackers. Though that may be I just wasn't looking hard enough. Our team tried stacking, but we could couldn't go fast enough because the pins in our gearbox broke multiple times.

25 was the my favorate in curie cus of the reliability of the machine itself. We gave then some hardwear to prove it.

469 and 111 ,65 were great to watch in the finals.

and as for rockies 1218 had some great people to work with and to compete aganst so i'm lookin forward to there bot next year.

Edit: Team 175 (that smiley face team...*shudders* creepy...) gave us the "Plywoodie Award" for the most innovative use of plywood. It was pretty funny. :D

Yep. Hes great at what he does. He kinda reminds me of a lil boy announcing all his x-mas presents after they have been unwrapped. He is an amazing guy and has a great personality. A good source of energy and happiness is from and by him.

But yea, me and one of the mentors (the one doing the recording during the finals) on 74 were talkign abotu it during the finals. And we thought it woulda been awesome. Such a pitty they lost, oh wells, can't change that. But yea. I dunno why I liked HeatWaves bot, maybe it was cause I knew more about that bot than our own, haha. i will forever think that 11's bot was just sexy..
for personal reasons, i love 108 too, but i have to admit that that robot has come a LOONG way since i first saw it in chicago. and about 3 times as fast. 67 had to be the best stacker i saw, and 25 was juss cool.

as for mark leon... was he the one with blue hair? grr. maybe it was juss me, but he was a little too animated. him and the singy guy. lol, but it was still fun to watch him balance on the bars.

192- definitely one of the coolest bots there, and student built pride!! All Palo Alto robots are student built... although ours has a more authentic broke-$@#$@#$@#-student-robot look since our robot is duct-tape-coated as opposed powder-coated.

Although we weren't able to attend nationals this year, I've been looking through pictures and videos and there are a lot of really cool robots. But Gunn deserves congratulations for being the best driven robot I saw at SVR this year.

Yes!!! Mark Is God! Oh he's so wonderful. He always remembers team slogans (such as "feel the burn of Spicy Mustard). His presence gets you so excited, the other announcers were so bland. It was like "Wait, were we just announced? Where was the summersault??"

actually, when we succesfully locked our arms down we were never moved during nationals. UCF was a different story altogether...

in reviewing the tapes i found that we were moved once at nats, by the the combined force of techno tics (236) and miss daisy (341)

team 25 is insanely good. they consistantly know how to make a fast and high torque robot (See: Robo Raider 2002). im also amazed at our robot... sorry if i sound biased... but origionally we were supposed to have a swing arm to knock boxes down but we blew out every motor we had and didnt think we would do as well but major props to 25 and all the other great bots out there

I'm going to put my 2 cents in now:

I really liked 302. Their wedge design was good, they were fast and they could control themselves. They could get under the bar and go after stacks, using the wedge to push around anyone in the way, and they were great alliance partners :) Plus, they looked really cool. I loved their Dragon logo about as much as the bot itself.

they weren't in curie... mybe they were in archimedes?? all i know is i had to search for their team to get one of the "real men wear pink" buttons, but oh yeah.... that bot competed with stang's for sexiness... actually, it won. it was pink. the pink alone made it amazing beyond comparison.

lol, I meant that I was in Curie and they were in Archimedes...:D...I was over there alot of the time cheering them on anyways! :) ...I will have to agree with you definitely about the pink-ness of the robot---that really made it sexy all on its own! :) , sorry for the misunderstanding! .stephan1e.

Maybe that was the case at UCF but deffinitely not a Nationals...

Yeah, you guys were the hardest robot to move.. What did you have on the bottom of your feet?

The point I was trying to make is- did anyone notice how not one ramp-dominator made the finals? Their task was surely the most daunting one - to hold the ramp for 1:45... Kudos to everyone who took up this design..
