View Full Version : Beware of spending too much time in Chief Delphi Forum!

According to my source, a very high power in this forum, "a FIRST-a-holic positive FIRST participate has been banned... 'for no reason'. "
After much investigation, and a brief chat with the victim, I've collect enough evidence to prove that the claim from the high power is in fact, authentic.
I present to the people, exhibit 1 in the attached picture.
Let all of you CD addicts be warned! Too much time reading the forum and neglecting other things will result in similar punishment!
Beware of the big brother!

Ouch, banned and spotlight
...at least he had the willpower to ask to be banned.
So, instead of posting, he's only reading now :P

Nope, I believe if your ip is banned, you can't read or post. You can't do anything, and all it tell you is you are banned.
Ouch.
good thing i dont have a static ip adress...is there a way i can view the amount of my posts?

Reminds me of this song I like:
I hope someday I'll get away
But the current keeps brining me back around
Seems the only place for me is undergound
So tomorrow when the sun comes up
I'll be going down
Going down...
/me exhibits shifty eyes
/me flees to lurking in the shadows

His being banned prolly limits his ability to respond..:p
I've had the ops ban me from Tigerbolt for a few days so I could get school done.

Hey Guys,
Yeah, the rumors ARE indeed true. Last night I asked Brandon to ban my IP adress from ChiefDelphi. *Gasp!* This means I cannot look at, post on or do anything on the web-address www.chiefdelphi.com from my computer.
Why?
Well, the truth is, this has been building for a while now. Those that know me, know I care a lot about this wonderful program, and everyone involved in it. The problem is... I'm getting TOO into it. I find myself checking ChiefDelphi about 10,000 times per day, while this is fun, it's probably not the best thing to be doing.
So... I'm trying to wean myself off of ChiefDelphi a little bit...
Seeing as I have absolutely no self-control, I asked Brandon to help me out a little... he's the bestest Moderator in the world, so he did it for me.
What's next?
Well... I'll be stepping back from FIRST a little bit. I'm not sure what exactly that means yet, but lately I've been finding it harder and harder to find that happy balance between
FIRST/Academics/Personal Life.
In fact... I suck at finding that balance, so I think it's time to work on it a little.
Whuh?
Yeah... I know...
I'm not giving up on FIRST however, completely on the contrary... this is a preemptive action that will hopefully keep me from resorting to quitting entirely. (My GPA can only fall so far... note to everyone: don't be like John!)
Here's the kicker...
Brandon banned my IP address, but in 2 weeks, I change rooms anyways. So this "banishment" is actually more of a.... forced vacation. As you can see, I'm still checking CD (on my roomie's computer right now), but the difference between checking once a day, and checking 10,000 times a day is pretty substantial.
I'll still be attending some offseason comps, and still hope to Ref IRI if the boys from Indy will let me?
My role within FIRST and on 229 is still in question...
I suppose... we'll all find out together exactly what "balance" is for me.
I enjoyed reffing this season... a lot.
I also love this program, and love my team... but I don't think I can run it anymore. I'm looking at my schedule for next year, and my brow is already sweating.
Anyways...
I digress...
I think FIRST is the greatest thing in the world, I enjoy my time interacting with all of you, and I cherish the things I have learned, and the experiences I have had...
I'll be back around eventually (probably sooner than I want to admit), until then... goodbye.
Thanks,
A hopeless FIRST addict,
John
PS - I'm shocked I had the willpower to get myself banned... my roomie still catches me "testing" the ban every now and then...:D
PPS - Advice to everyone, especially those joining college teams next year: find some balance in your life. It's easy to get sucked into this program, especially when there are people relying on you to succeed.... ;)

Hey! I see you!
But now, you see, I have your roommates IP logged.
You're a gonner, John! :)
j/k. I agree life/school is more important than these forums. Don't get too involved ... they will be here tomorrow, you just may have to be post #15 instead of post #2 in threads.
I guess it is time for the good old screensaver password to help Brandon in the "wean John off of Delphi" effort. Yes folks, I would be 'the roomate' . Maybe I will have to start posting to make up for it. 3 years of religiously reading these threads and 0 posts. Here goes # 1. Does anyone find it ironic that in a thread about John being banned he has managed to post the longest post in the thread?

John! We are all behind you! We are supporting you spiritually!
Say no to Chief Delphi for 2 weeks! You can do it! Yes you can!
The hardest is the first few days, and you managed to survive it already... err... I mean, you tried very hard and eventually can't resist the urge and had to post at your roommate's computer... But I mean, you tried! You know what they say, trying is the first step to failure! But don't fear failure! Failures are the best lessons in life! Plus, the only thing to fear is fear it self! err... I am mumbling endlessly.... errrr.....
Anyway...
Go John Go! You can do it! Just try not to go to any libraries with internet access, or cyber cafes, or break into office buildings and hack into people's computer just to come on CD! Or try not to hack into your campus server and change your ip secretly!

Now we need a Betty Ford Clinic for FIRST-a-holics.
Check yourself in for two week-
Maybe a non-CD website for FIRST-a-holics; group chats, with group support and and round table discussions about
FIRST obsessions and issues.
Oh, no, it's starting again....

why not just let the servers take a break and take the board offline for a while.. then people even if they cant control themselves have no other choice.. Its mean.. but easy to do:p

::goes insane of even the thought of not having CD::
actually, maybe i'd get the website done that way :p
maybe brandon could have implement sort of 'rolling bans' (kinda like rolling blackouts) among the most frequent CD users...

Heh, addictions... I've gotten myself off of one forum (for Science Olympiad, where ironically, people will die, because the server's going to be down for about 3 weeks. Luckily I'll be fine)
CD however, there's more interesting threads to read... that are long... I always find myself alt-F4-ing the window so I don't keep reading, but the window somehow keeps appearing 5 minutes later. $@#$@#$@#$@# subconcious!

I also like the fact it says "John V Neun [logout]" in the ChiefDelphi menu bar. :D

Oh wow... I just hope I never get that addicted...
Hehe...
This same sort of thing happened to me :)
I would find myself spending all my time either on CD or our team's forums. :)
As I saw my life begin to vanish, I felt that I really needed to do something :)
I began to set "no computer times"... I wouldn't allow myself on the computer. Either I'd have to do homework or at least some other way to kill my time. :)
I still sometimes have this "craveing" to check the web. I still don't know how I'm going to survive this summer when I'm going to be away from the net for a weeks at a time. Ahhh... The Horror

Finals are over...
We'll see how the grades turn out but... I managed to take my first FIRST step back.
Now, with Brandon's permission, I can post again.
It feels good to be back... a little too good. :D
Welcome back John.
You have done a noble, horrible thing.

I'd just like to point out that I was only doing what John asked. I did not ban him pro-actively. He asked, presented a reason, and I did him a favor. Don't want people thinking that I did it without him knowing about it.

And John, welcome back!

Of course I asked!
Thanks again Brandon.
I hope no one got the impression that Brandon just bans people for being on too much... I mean, if that were the case who'd be next?
(my guess is Dave Kelly):D ;)

Ahh, if all messageboards did that for a week THINK of what the world could get done! Insane, caffeine inebriated forum ex-addicts would wander the streets, clutching stained Starbucks containers close to their shivering bodies, with nothing to do but actually get something done!
Real work...the horror...THE HORROR!

Why do I get the feeling I'm up high on the chopping-block. Especially after the super-long quote list, the High Priest thing, terrorizing people with their mascots, me still being teamless, among other things.

I am so confused!
I might need one of those vacations after this... ...
I've been counting down the minutes until The Matrix: Reloaded comes out and the theater opens it door, ops, lines moving (laptop folds up)(walking)(laptop unfolds), and I'm back!
29 minutes 15 seconds and (checks DOS) 27 parsecs.
...26 parsecs...
...25 parsecs...
Oh forget it, 28 minutes.
(gets tired and runs out of threads.)
Well, I'm logging off at 27 minutes, 42 seconds, 2 parsecs
1 parsec...:D :D
It must take a lot to ask to be banned from CD...
