This year on our team we're going to have a lot more people on animation than we have in the past. It's going to be a major change since we only had 2 people working on animation last year. Anyways, I was wondering if there are any animators in the Indy area would like to assist us this season by helping me to teach people to use 3D Studio Max. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks! :)

Are you looking for professionals or just other team animators?

Both :) Actually anyone with a good knowledge of 3D Studio Max will work... we just need some help for this up coming season. We hope to do some summer sessions for the people interested in animation.

What exactly are you wanting to show them?
I don't think you know me. My name is Tim Sullivan. I am the animator for Full Metal Jackets. You probably know my leader, Libby Ritchie, who is the wife of you guys' leader, Scott. If you guys need help, I can help. I can do all I can. Just let me know when and where.

I'm not in Indy. but i'm not that far away.
I'd love to help you team people to animate Ryan. My knowlege is somewhat limited but i have experience modelling and i am a master at making cool textures maps and such.
If you need me to help just PM me or email me or get ahold of me on AIM.

O'course I know who you guys are! :) But yeah I'm wanting to show them how to learn the basics of the program but at the same time get myself up to speed. I guess I'm not exactly sure what I want to do yet...
Thanks for the replys guys :) It'd be cool if we could get together w/ some of the animation people from all our teams sometime this summer. I'll get back with you when I have more of an idea.

Ryan, i would say some of the best ways to teach a large group would be by using Ted boardman's tutorials that he does every year for FIRST.

Ryan if you need help from the West i'm sure i can get some of my team members to help you out too... Just thought of that.
You might talk to the Technokats too, they have alot of animator advisors it seems.

If you want their email addresses, PM me and I can get them to you. Also I think 2 of the 3 will be at the IRI this summer.

Ryan, here is the link:FIRST Inventor and 3ds max tutorials (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=1047962)
Also you can find it on the first site under team resources than Autodesk online tutorials.
Also D.J. you have animators from your team on CD so they can just be pm'd I believe Austin is on here along with TKatsAniMentor and I'm not sure about anybody else, so give those people a PM or an email, if you know D.J. it takes him a while to process everything :p (lol j/k D.J.)

Hey Ryan,
Remember Evan Anderson-Decina (formerly on Cyber Blue)? Hopefully this doesn't make it seem like a small world, but he lived just across the hall from me this last school year. He opted out of joining the Prank Monkeys because he was very involved with soccer. However, it couldn't hurt to ask him for help. I have heard a lot about his ability to use the Autodesk software and I'm sure you could verify his ability (sorry your team had to lose him!). Anyway, if you want I can send you his school e-mail address - just PM me.

O'course I remember Evan he taught me a lot my first year. That would be awesome to get him to come back in and help :)
Thanks to everyone for posting things on here. I hope to get more info. soon, but it would be cool if all of us could get together sometime for a kind of teaching/learning session....

we could always meet at IRI for a bit too! that would be sweet.
I think if you guys meet at IRI you had better watch out, or else your competitive side will come out and you may turn into ruthless cut-throat animators!! :D :p ;)

heh, yeah I'll most likely be bust with strategy anyways  . However it would still be cool to meet for a while, especially you Ryan considering the closest we have come is Ryan leaving a form at my Pit. lol

Yeah Tyler I'll have to meet in face to face @ the IRI....
It would be cool to do animation meetings at IRI, but I'd like to do a few before if possible. :)

I'm an animator with the FMJ team 393 and i was wandering if you guys knew anything about the animation( i know it seems kind of daft that i am asking you when 393 is one of the hosting teams) and i also wanted to ask about the former "need" for any animators in indy. I was wandering what exactly you might need animators for.
I know that it may seem kind of redundent that i be asking you these questions but i just figured i should just to inform myself and others...

Here is information on the Animation competition at the IRI:
Indianafirst.org - IRI Animation Info (http://www.indianafirst.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=72)
Currently, we are planning on setting up 20 (or 21) machines to do the animation competition down at the event. The Ivy Tech instructors who serve as Animation mentors on the TechnoKats have outlined a "project" for the animation teams to perform. 3 students on each competing team will be able to use 1 computer, so it will be tight.
We are interested in who wants to enter their team in this competition, since we have limited hardware. If the demand is heavy, then we may split the computer times into 2 sessions... or we might add hardware.
Please continue this discussion and look for more information in the indianafirst.org website (linked above).
