View Full Version : Where are you staying for IRI?

I'm going to have to get a hotel room for myself, and I was curious as to where people and teams are staying down in Indianapolis. Maybe I can get a room at the same place as some college FIRSTers or something not too far away.
Does anyone have any plans?
It sounds like the "roadtrippin-northeast-college-FIRSTers" will be staying in a van down by the river... unless something better comes up. :D

On Thursday night I'll probably stay in the school like I did last year, but for the other nights I think I'll get a room at the Omni hotel again (it was pretty nice). :)

/me crys.
I'm not going to IRI....
Amanda Morrison

Why not, Matt?!
And as for John and myself, we have no plans (and I don't know if I am going to have money for a hotel...), so it looks like we are going to be sleeping in our cars. Well... who do we have to contact to sleep on the bleachers at Lawrence North?
and John... I don't know what kind of car you have, but I have a Thunderbird, so that's excellent sleeping room. :) You're welcome to my passenger seat!

I suppose I should figure that out soon. :)

...already been there before I posted the thread. I think that link is also on the IRI thread.
I meant, where are all the independent FIRSTers going to stay?

eeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkk!
No idea where I am staying at. They say they will "take care of me". I suspect it involves a sleeping bag, a towel-rolled-up-pillow, and a tiny storage room for janitors equipments in the school for about 3 hours a night with no heating equipment and a leaking ceiling. Man, I am having nightmare of the leaking ceiling already. I can almost hear the watch dripping from the edge, and the little wind whisling noise from the corner of the window.
At least it will be better than the backyard of Chatsworth High School two years ago when I watched the sun set and raise the night before qualifying rounds. Oh yeah, for those of you who never done it, don't sleep near a grass field next to the high school basket ball court. Aparently they water the grass during the night. Man I thought those bleachers were safe. Oh yeah, I remember from far away there were the noises animal makes when they wake up. Yeah... good times....

I'm still unsure about where I'm staying. I'm going to try and hitch a ride with Rob Jenkins from 47, so I know I'll get there, but I don't know what I'll do when I'm there. I suppose I should probably figure that out...

I just wanted to let anyone who is seriously contemplating sleeping in your cars - it is illegal in Indiana to sleep in your vehicle at a place such as a school. I'm sure that no one in FIRST would mind, but I'm just thinking incase of the Lawrence North Police Officers...just a thought.

Yup, I dont know where I'm staying either. I guess I'm splitting a hotel room with some other college FIRSTers?? ;)
But either way, I'll bring my infamous internal framed backpack, a sleeping bag, pad, and tent. So just leave me on somebody's lawn off a street somewhere... and I'll be content.

...It's only illegal if you get caught! ;)
My place of sleep is still unknown. Any other FIRSTers driving in want to get a hotel room with complete strangers? :D

Jeff,
I might be interested. I'm gonna have a crew of about 4, and we'll all be needing some place to stay. Ken L is in the same boat.
Unless of course, I actually end up sleeping in my car.

I may be interested, too. I'll know better on Monday, probably, but as of right now, I don't have a hotel arrangement.

To me, a much simplier solution is (when everyone is planning to sleep in their car) to ask the IRI officials and see if we can stay in the high school gym for the night. We can lay out sleeping bags next to the field ;p. Much better and safer than staying in the cars individually. Just a thought of course. ;)

That sounds great!
So... what "IRI official" do we ask?

last year we were allowed to stay at LN thursday night but not friday night. i'm not sure why it changed from night to night. i would contact scott ritchie or andrew baker or libby ritchie via e-mail, phone, or david kelly to get a more official answer.
this was only for people who were on the field setup crew last year because we were there so late

If you actually want to go in on this sleeping on the gym floor stuff, count me in.

I certainly hope so, for the sake of our health. It is a 2 day even, with 1 set up day. If we get 0 sleep I doubt I will get back to California alive.
Have you guys considered staying at hotel? According to the IRI package, the Super 8 motel have a 6 person family suite that cost $69 a night. If we can fit 6 person in, that means about 10~15 dollars per person, per night. That's $45 for 3 nights. Not a bad deal.
Beat gym floor just a little bit, plus it have shower and bathroom.

Hmmm...ken and I were just talking about this a few minutes ago...conicidence? I think not? :) Anyway, pending the reply to my latest e-mail sent to the powers that be at IRI, count me in...

anyone still got a spot in their room open? i'll sleep on the floor willingly. but at this point, i don't have a ride yet either. Going to ask Big Mike first and then my dad about borrowing his car. Lemme know ASAP please? because if i get hotel space my mom might buy me a plane ticket for my birthday (tomorrow!).
thanks much in advance.

I suppose it's the place to be!

It says complimentary shuttle service within 5 miles... is the school in that radius?

The IRI hotel info says it is. Mapquest says the Omni is only 1.2 miles down the road from Lawrence North.
Clark Gilbert
06-07-2003, 23:30
The Omni is easily within that 5 mile radius and so is pretty much all the other stuff.
The area around LNHS and the Omni has many other hotels, resturaunts, and "the largest mall in central indiana". If you need to find something you'll be able to.
For some reason i want to say that the Omni is a little more than 1.2 miles to LNHS, maybe closer to 2. It's also not a very good walk because the main road (82nd Street) is a VERY busy road.

Well, Mapquest has been known to be wrong, but I put in the addresses, and that's what it gave me.
