View Full Version : Robotics curriculum
NASA is looking for robotics curriculum that faculty members or mentors from FIRST teams have developed.
We are interested in evaluating these curricula, giving you some feedback from a group of interested robotics professionals.
Please let me know the best way to contact you if you have any information which would be useful for NASA's study.

I believe a few teams have posted their curriculum in our white papers (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/papers.php?s=) section.
Brandon -
Thanks for the pointer. I was also hoping that some other courses are out there somewhere...

I know my former high school, Appleton East (http://www.aasd.k12.wi.us/east/), has created a Engineering Charter School centered around and as a result of the success of our FIRST Robotics Team (Team 93).
Tesla Engineering Charter School (http://www.aasd.k12.wi.us/tesla/)
Thanks so much!
Do you have the name of someone there I should contact?
Thanks,
Flora

are you talking about a robotics class? b/c i think that we're going to have one next year where we can get credit for being in the class, going towards our total (science?) credits.

Sean Schuff, on the Staff section of the site, is most likely the best person to speak with. His e-mail address is listed there. E-mail is your best bet at the moment, since school is out.
Apparently they're introducing a new cirriculum next year called Project Lead the Way. You can see their website here (http://www.pltw.org/aindex.asp). Click here (http://www.pltw.org/ourschools.shtml) for a listing of schools currently participating in this pre-engineering program. You might find one near your area. Note that participation in this program doesn't necessarily mean that the engineering cirriculum is based around FIRST Robotics or any other robotics applications.
cutiebethy and Jnadke,
Thanks for your responses.
Cutie, do you know the name and e-mail of the professor who is doing the class?
Thanks,
Flora

University High School in Orlando, FL has a robotics class. The teacher (and Big Kahuna of the Crew) is Nathan Pell. He can be emailed at pelln@ocps.net. I'm sure he'd love to answer your questions.
edit:
I just remembered that a student on the team is either starting an internship soon or is currently interning at the NASA Kennedy Space Center. His task as an intern is to create a curriculum for a high school class about robotics. His name is Miguel Morales and his email is tiki_n385jr@hotmail.com. You can try to get in touch with him as well.
Hope this helps!
cutiebethy, dbeck103 and George1083:
Thank you all for your responses! I will be in touch with either you or the people you referred me to within the next few days...
If any of you do have a robotics curriculum for any grade, K-12, that you would like to have group of educators from NASA and NSF evaluate for you, please send it to me.
Thanks,
Flora
