In addition to the government one it may be a good idea to look here (http://www.the-dma.org/government/donotcalllists.shtml) to see if your state has already started a program like this. My family signed up for Indiana's the first year it came out (maybe 2-3 years ago) and it works wonders. I haven't recieved more than 5 telemarketers calls in those 3 years.

I like to mess with them, so not having that entertainment would make my life so empty :D

In case anyone cares, I sell telezappers since I work at Radio Shack. That is one product that doesn't bring back much of a response. Hereing your comments about the products that I sell helps me to tell people about them in the future.

I think it is a solid product worth the $40 price.

We have 3 phone lines over here. 1 for our house and 2 for my mom's work. We put the main house phone on that "DNC" list - but the other 2 we left alone - my bro messes w/ them and it's funny as heck...

Okay, I'm guilty of screening my calls... I love Caller ID, if the number is unavailable, I usually don't answer. But when I do answer, it's to have fun with them... of course, I'm pretty tame as far as that goes, my friend on the other hand... his latest was to pretend (very noisely) he was talking to them while on the toilet...

what is this "telezapper"? if it is what it sounds like (i.e. it zaps telemarketers) i would buy as many as possible, in addition to more phone lines to hook them up to

The telezapper is a thing that you hook up to your phone line, like an answering machine. Now you know how when you forget to dial the area code and you hear a beap then the message to hang up and try your call again? Well if a phone number is no longer in use, it does the same thing. If the telezapper senses that you recieved a phone call dialed by a computer, it makes a beep and the computer thinks that the phone number is no longer in use. It deletes the number off of its list. Since most of these calls that you get use the same list, you will reduce a lot of the calls that you get just by it picking up one of these calls. You can find out more at Radio Shack's website at radioshack.com

I love messin w/ telemarketers. Once I told the woman that no one lived here by that name b/c she said my last name wrong. She got all quiet and said "I'm sorry...I screwed up!" I was like "yeah ya did...buh bye!" It's also funny to say "I'm sorry...what was yur phone # so I can call you while yur having dinner w/ yur family or wake you up on a saturday morning at 9:30!?!?!" They don't know what to say...at least that's what I've heard...I've never thought fast enough to do it. Once my dad just started a regular convo w/ a telemarketer. It was near Christmas so he was asking what they got everyone for Christmas and what they got as gifts. Then he said "well...do you use this that yur tryin to sell me?" *no* "then why should I buy it??"

I don't think you could ever pay me enough money to be a telemarketer...:)

Its fun to mess with their heads...pretend next time your a telemarketer when they call and try to sell something to them, they get very annoyed, espically if you try to sell them what they are trying to sell you, then they get all huffy and puffy and hang up.
I have to agree with jessica that i could never be a telemarketer, even if you paid me all the money in the world...(well maybe just maybe then...NOPE not even then!)
