I'm proud to announce the date and venue have been finalized for the 2003 Robot Rodeo.
Where: University High School in Orlando, FL
When: Saturday, October 25th

We are currently working hard to make this one of the best off-season events around, but we need input! Please tell us what you want at the event, and we'll do our best to make it happen!
No FIRST event could happen without the effort of volunteers, and the Rodeo is no different. If you would like to help out, please let us know.
Contact us at robotrodeo2003@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

Need Internet connection w/ static routable IP. This is the easiest way to webcast the event. Need a high quality camera and a video switcher/mixer.
At IRI we used the school's Panasonic Digital A/V Mixer WJ-MX12. Anyone have a real video toaster out there?? This Panasonic was ok, but we could do better... Anyone have the Model # on what FIRST uses to store frames and switch feeds?

I was always under the impression the each regional contracted their own A/V supplier.
However, I've never been up close and personal with setting up a regional that's been webcast.

I think the Web-casting is a great idea. I am sure that our school would have enough bandwith on a Saturday. Someone tell me if I am wrong. We have a full T-1 (which is maxed out during the week), but not used at all on Saturday.
I think with the new leadership, and the promotion this would bring to our school we would be able to get this setup.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Local Television station for recording, co-location for hosting-
We record- co-locate to host

I for sure want to go, but I'm not 100% clear about the rest of my team as of yet. I know that I'll probably be there, along with some other team members of mine. We hope to see everyone from the Florida teams there...(P!NK, 179 Swamp People, Ramtech, 212 RaCe, Flashbacks; just to name a few...:)) Will the people who do want to go and can go just reply on here so I can tell my people, this is a "push" of some sort to motivate them to want to go! I hope all of my friends I've made so far are gonna be there...and then I can have a chance her to make even more friends! WoW...I'm like so UbErLy excited about this now...:):).

Do you have someone trained to operate the scoring system?

Well if we dont have someone who is trained we should have Ken L. Come down just so we can make him the most stresses scorekeeper in the nation, not just wess if the mississippi.
I am officially the most stressed score keeper west of the Mississippi River.

But how to get Swampthing and The chillen to orlando? tha Palm Beach County school board outlawed renting 15,17-passanger vans, and Swampthing is 10.5' wide.
Prehaps a handicaped bus with a lift?
Just out of curiosty, why was the fee changed to $75 ?
OH, **Happy! Birthday Stephnie**

We did not know when we set the fee to $50 that we have to pay for security at the event. The extra is to cover security (Sheriff's Deputies)
Thanks for the interest!

Whoo!! I think I speak for all of 108 when I say YeAHH!! First competition with the new team structure!! (From dillard high school at least)
Most of our core team members graduated last year, so all the freshman, sophomores, and the couple of juniors from last year are really stepping it up this year to take up the slack left. So far we're doing okay.
This will also be my first match as driver of the sigmac@t robot, so WATCH OUT now! Anyone got a student driver sign they can loan me for the duration of my matches??

Hehe, Oh I will be! student driver I may be BUT I think with 916lbs of torque in low gear and moving at about 10feet/sec in high using an on-the-fly transmission, I may stand some bit of a chance against the Swamp thing ;). But hey, who knows! I personally can't wait!

Hey George! Remember we're known to a few way back in 2000 with Lexy and Big Jimmy (what happened to them) beating two teams with no offensive capabilities whatsoever with our clear bot! So i guess SPAM is (define new function SPAM = Speed, Power, And Maneuverability) and what kind of security, you need to stop Twitch!

Hey, kinda got a last minute problem possibly arising, but hey, when isnt there? heh
Is anyone coming through broward county on the way there? We're having a problem getting all the students AND the robot there. We were wondering if someone could let our robot hitchhike up. It may not be nessacary at all, but I'm trying to start early if its a problem. Thanks everyone!!!
Update on 108: Well, we had a snabu with the drill motors on our tranny during a presentation at a middle school. The original drill spun out and killed the brushes and froze the motor. However, we have a box of spare drill motors so you would've thought itd be easy. Problem: the gear required to be on the drill motor is different than the ones ON our drill motor. So we're now trying to get the machine shop to replace and press the gear on the motors. Should we be unable to do this, watch out! You'll see a very, very slow 108 (but I'll still keep pushing!).
How's everyone else's bot looking? Good luck all!!

Anyways, see you all at the rodeo.

Sportsmanship: 665 for oustanding generosity in the Pits
Play of the Day: 180 for righting itself with it's arm after being tipped
Spirit: 179 for being very loud and very green of course =-]
Finalists: 386, 665, 1065
Champions: 108, 180, 186
Congratulations to all of the winners. I'd like to thank everyone who attended. Spirited teams, tough competition, and outstanding examples of gracious professionalism made this an event that I'll never forget.

Robot Rodeo was A+ mazing (heheh). I had so much fun. I especially had fun working on setting up out there. I wanna send a special shout out to George from 1083, Andrew Rudolph (beautiful trophies ;)), Nathan Pell, Kenny from 108, and the other people who put a ton of effort into this competition. It was a great competition... even with the controller problems, but I liked the game without the autonomous, it was pretty cool because it threw a curve ball and tested the drivers so they had to work with their robot to get the top of that ramp.
All the teams were great, I was very impressed, they all made it an awesome environment. I've never seen Swampthing so spirited, I hope they keep going with that, it was a ton of fun. I saw MANY robots out there doing some pretty amazing things that I have never seen their robots do, it was great to watch and see the capability of many of those machines.
Finally, I thought it was really cool all the inter-team bonding that was going on... I shouted up "Who dat BBAT?" since I had no team, and I was amazed that within a few chants of it, half the auditorium was chanting with me..... even though our team wasn't there. I really loved watching how great the teams seem to be, last year's Robot Rodeo was a ton of fun, but I mean this year team's were getting so involved with cheering and dancing and having fun, and it was more like one big team that happened to be having multiple robots working. It was great to see teams cheering and complimenting their opponent after the matches, I've seen that before of course... but teams were very nice about it at this competition. Can't wait to see you guys again! I'm ready for the next competition with you guys, I'm proud to say I'm on a Florida team!!!!!

Yay!
Okay, Robot Rodeo: "Sooo good." (Teen Girl Squad. Please someone get that reference.)
I second what Mike is saying about all the inter-team bonding. I don't know how or why it happened, but it was great, and I hope it continues through UCF. I was feeling the love.
Big thanks to teams 108 and 186 not only for being fantastic alliance partners, but for generally being awesome.
Oh, also... George's announcing was great.
Rodeo was wonderfully exhausting. I need a nap.

It was aLL great Best Off SEason Competion EVER!
the 4 hours up & back were definitely worth it. i know a lot of our new members will be staying now that they see how much fun competitions (& robotics in general) really are. it was a lot of fun to see everyone again. what did you all think of our drumline? :D the game computer being b0rk didn't really affect anything...it was just another obstacle to overcome. though, we did just use the dongle to run in autonomous anyway hehehe. rudy, great job on the trophies. and those pink shoes...fabulous. congrats to all the winners and we'll see you all at regionals!
ps, thanks, spam, for lending us a radio. and isabel, i hope you know you can't be popular AND smart.

Awesome everyone! Plain out AWESOME!
Special thanks goes out to SPAM 180! Without you guys (especially nick!) we'd have never been able to get as far as we did! From practice rounds of mounting our bumber to the final match of the day, we made an amazing team!
Also, thanks to 186! You guys pulled it together, got what you needed to get done done, and ended up doing an outstanding job!
To everyone else: Awesome job! Great fun had by all! Also, thanks to everyone for being sooo sportsman-like. I don't think I had even one problem where a team didnt come over and make sure that after they did something to us, that it didnt cause any problems. Thanks!
Side-note: I liked the no auton mode phase. It really brings back the old days where there was no auton. Heh, whereas this was my first competition driving, it just seemed like a lot more fun without the auton.
Hope to see yall real soon! Let's keep this intra-team bonding thing going through UCF everyone! We are the Florida robotics, let's work together as one. Now I too need a nap, so GOOOOOOD night everyone!

What i saw when looking at the controls was that after AI mode the system would reset it self not letting human operation. I was talking to the guy running it and he sayed the glitch was between the control box and the software on the computer.

Thank you again for coming to University High School! We had a lot of fun getting things ready for you, and it looks like you had a lot of fun at the event.
I am sorry to say that someone "accidentally" picked up our team's (1083) power supply, and now we can't work with our robot.
Would someone please look through their stuff and see if they have two power supplies?
Thanks!
Nathan Pell

If I ever start talking like tytus please some one come down here and knock the grammer into me. 1 Tytus on the children of the swamp team is enough. But anyways, the rodeo was wickedly awesomely fun, mike, did you get home okay?

Hey yall, first off I'd like to reiterate the rodeo was AWESOME!!
Now for the 108 sad news, heh. Unfortunetly, in the confusion and excitement right before we left for home, one of our team members somehow managed to loose their school-issued laptop. We're going nuts not having it down here and have been trying like mad to find someone that might know about it. If anyone knows of where a Dell D800 Latitude Laptop might be, PLEASE lemme know! It's a school laptop, and as of right now, that student is in for a huge problem (as in he's responsible for a brand new dell Pm Laptop). Thanks sooo much yall! I know I can count on this community to pull through for us!
BTW, once again, AWESOME everyone, pure AWESOME!!!
