View Full Version : What's The Coolest Thing A Team Can Give Out?
Joe Matt
29-01-2002, 14:17
This is a poll for us to see what other people want to get from us. Post other things here and what your team will do.
Well,
The real answer isn't up there...so I voted on something that was....
THE COOLEST THING IS A SLINKY!!!! Yes, I got a slinky! at nationals one year. Boy was that cool.
Joe Matt
29-01-2002, 14:46
Slinky, yes a slinky.
Anymore idea's?

What about phone cards???
Team 67 and 447 have handed those out in the past few years and they have been great for when i forget my cell phone and i have a lack of proper change....
The robot itself... :D :D :D :D :D
Joe Matt
29-01-2002, 15:31
That's a good idea, we should auction off the robot...
My favorite hand out, which I of course lost, was a clicker. The hours I spent annoying my roommates with that...
I belive it was given out in 2000, but I could be wrong.

I personally thought that the NEC frisbees were well liked... just my thought.
Joe Matt

How about beach balls? Toss one up at the top of the stair well, and watch the fun!
rocky115k
29-01-2002, 20:59
Well buttons are getting to common i think
Then you have pamflets, very useful, but also overused
Frisbees, balls, and other novelty items are always a winner cause they are usually nifty and new.
Noise makers i feel are just plain annoying (my view)
But the i think the neatest thing would be food... that we know where it came from.

2000: At the Jonhson and Johnson Regional, one team gve out a gear and housing that was very nice. Its not a planetary gear, but thats the best thing i can call it, when it spund, it was different then its housing and caused an osciallting CAM motion.
2001: The FORD lightup necklace at Nationals, very cool usage of magnets to complete circuits.
Joe Matt
29-01-2002, 21:26
Wow, this is amazing. I remember seeing all sorts of things @ VCU last year! My idea is to creat a HTML page and use it on a mini-CD with photos of Sparky 3.0 and pictures.

We gave away Hokie Water *yeah yeah yeah, "what's a hokie?"*
It's this silly bottled water that our college sells for "school spirit." The Hokie is the school mascot. It's a funny bird. It'll kick your school's mascot's a**. Believe me, I watched it beat up a couple mascots at the same time at a basketball game.
Banana's are good......

I GOT A SLINKY TOO! It rocked!
There was a team at the VCU regional giving out keychains that they made to look like the FIRST symbol. They used a key ring, cut inch by inch aluminum square tubing, and bent a triangle and connected them all together. I rather thought that was cool. Although I must say I'd love to see bumper stickers this year, from a team or just ones to promote FIRST.
I would love to get a FIRST sticker for my car. Seriously!!! It might look weird among my Incubus and Tool stickers, it'd be on there though...

30-01-2002, 00:23
well our bagels will be there this year, will you ?
I hope so, and maybe WE can get promotional slinkies....yeah, slinkies.....
I have that keychain from Team 225...it is the only handout I still have, although the website stamped on it has never worked...
We (116/Epsilon Delta) had 10,000 stickers printed. We still have 1,000 or so left over. We caught some heat because the stickers started getting stuck all over the place at Nats...
We are not getting stickers this year.

Food from Texas---
I remember when I first moved down here, jalepenos were given to me as a side at a BBQ restaurant. I asked "what's that" and was told, without a hint of a grin, that it was a "Texas Pickle".
That'd be a good handout - it might even inspire some macho contests, which are always fun to watch.

I remember seeing y'all's stickers all over the place. I knew that Dave would be after y'all for it too. But hey, that's neither here nor there it's gone. For that reason I'd be against stickers too.

Glad the keychains were a hit! Kids spent HOURS filing them!
May have a limited supply of leftovers @ VCU & Philly this year.

Hey,
We here at Team 5 did slinkies 3 years ago. We where known as the "slinky team." Good-ol' Dean-o even came down and got 3 of em. (Their shapes where a square, triangle, and a circle, and the square was red, the triangle was blue, and the circle was the rainbow!!) Ya, people just came up to us just to ask for our slinkies! Woo-hoo!

I like the Pineapples from Hawaii! The Hawaiian teams give out the coolest things at the Silicon Valley Regional. ::starts counting:: Mousepads, Pineapples, Seashell Necklaces, one of the most original pins...
Pins from teams are cool, but I like to see uniqueness.

Wow, so many great ideas, this is so cool!
My team's name is hartburn (no, that's not a typo. our school name is hart high). So anyways, we're going with this whole flame and fire theme. At the Seattle competition we're giving out spirit bags to each of the teams. They'll have Red Hots, Atomic Fire Balls, Fire Jolly Ranchers, Hot Tamales, and Big Red gum as well as team stickers and pencils. We also came up with the idea of BURNing all the teams there (there's only 33) CD's. They'll have that "pump it up" motivational music you hear at sports games and stuff. Oh, the teams up in Seattle are gonna be so spoiled.
Joe Matt

oohh, why didn't you give out petmobismo? Or should MOE give out petMOEbisMOE...

Actually, we're thinking of making pins designed around petmobismo, rolaid, and tum labels. We tried getting them to sponsor us but they weren't interested, bummer.
And JospehM, love your avatar pic...catch 22 right? I'm reading that book right now.
Joe Matt
10-03-2002, 16:01
Yep, good old Yossarian. Great book. I just read the sequal, Closing Time.
I vote for the pinnapples that the Hawaiian teams were giving out during the Silicon Valley regionals last year:D
Oh, and the bag which team 25 was giving out. Really helped to keep all the goods in one place.

my favorite hand-outs had to be the freeze-pops at nats (71) and the fortune cookies last year (71).

one year my team passed out temporary tattoos... people seemed to like those
i like it when teams give out frisbees though....... its so much fun to have a frisbee for between matches if the robot isnt broken
We are still working on our handout. I can't really give out too many details, as part of the challenge for the other teams at the LA regional will be to figure out what the thing does. However, I have spent many hours using the prototype while watching TV and eating dinner (to the annoyance of my family).
Oh, and BTW, if anyone knows where I can get 1,000 clear plastic disks (lexan, plexiglass, etc.) that are about POG sized (1.5"-2" dia.) and at least 1/8" thick, it would save us many hours of shop work.
Al Skierkiewicz

I remember that Johnson and Johnson handout. Very cool, looked like a rotary oil pump as I remember. I gave mine up to a student who asked. It had either a neck chain or key chain to hold it together, anyway somehow everyone was wearing them around their necks.
I like the buttons and I will wear any button you give me on my FIRST/SME lanyard. I don't toss them away from regionals either so I can give the xray folks something to look at when the see my bags at the airport.

I think the coolest thing I got was a pair of drum sticks that some team of only boys gave me last yaer at the nationals.
I think the coolest that was given out at the KSC Regionals was the plastic swords that one of my team mates got.
Bill Enslen

You all know how loud it can get inside the competition arenas. This year, the Miracle Workerz are giving out earplugs. Judging from the response at VCU, they were a hit. We thought that our initial order would last for both regionals, but we went through almost all of our supply. We'll have more by Philly.
Mark Hamilton

The foam footballs were given out by us (team 108) in previous years, and we should have some at Chicago and nationals.
Ricky Q.
11-03-2002, 21:41
OK, so the frisbees would have been a little to steep for our budget (Especially since that darn school board continues to not give us any money, but thats another story) But since our regional (Motorola Midwest) is on Easter weekend we thought we'd give out purple and gold Easter eggs with candy in them, shall be interesting..maybe we'll hide some lol

Hey everyone,
As I mentioned before, we're burning CD's for the Spirit packages we're giving to teams up in Seattle and I was wondering if your teams or you had any cool songs that you could suggest. We want to cover a broad spectrum of tastes so I want to know what kind of music pumps you up.
You could either post a reply back, email me at Smarty6748@aol.com, or IM me. Thanks a bunch!

You!! You Dragonslayers! You guys had the best mints! The swords were good, but... but the mints! The mints were godlike! You need to find me at Nationals and hook me up with the mints! Agghh!!! I WANT MORE OF THOSE MINTS!!
Anyway... [obviously] the Dragonslayer style mints are good. As are any kind of toys (i.e. swords, frisbees, blah blah blah).
Our team doesn't give out much besides buttons and bumper stickers. I personally give out hugs (yes, I really do). :)
Also, at KSC I managed to score a pair of pants from some guy on Heat Wave. I'm aiming for more articles of clothing at Nationals. So if anyone has some [clean!!!!] team shirts, pants, whatever... hook me up at Nats. Heck, it doesn't have to be from your team. Just give me any your clothing. :p

I remember very fondly the lego men and clickers....i displayed them both proudly on my backpack until they were both, tragically, STOLEN!! That is how popular they were!!! Also, someone mentioned beach balls....Beach'Bot tried that a couple of years ago. We tried bouncing them around in the stands during our matched, but afterwards we always founds a couple dozen popped beachballs lying on the floor next to countless discarded buttons and necklaces.
I strongly dislike buttons. My first two years i diligently went to every team's pit trading for buttons. I ended up with four buckets of buttons, and all except for one or two very unique ones eventualy ended up in the garbage.
Hugs is good!!!
Candy is better!!! Archer (can't remember team number...one of our dearly beloved fellow socal teams) was giving out CARAMEL APPLE POPS!!! I still love you guys for that, if any of you are reading this! We're doing candy this year, but we don't expect it to taste good...it just happens to be very cheap to print our logo on candy wrappers.
BtW....how did i somehow miss these bagels being passed out at SoCal?? are you guys doing that again?? i love you all!! hugs for the bagel bytes!!
My favorite giveaways, aside from lego men and clickers and caramel apple pops, would have to be useful things like pens. I use the pens for months afterwards, and every time i use it, i remember the team who gave it to me. Needless to say, Beach'Bot is giving out pens this year. Pens to anyone who gives me lego men, clickers, apple pops, pineapples, bagels, or hugs.
Later y'all,
Amy
I think a new pair of MOE SOCKS . Warm look great at FIRST events or just any place but must be sign by me see ya in FL.:D

For swappables this year, we will be giving out buttons, keychains and CARMEL APPLE SUCKERS (yep, you heard that right! ;)) at regionals. For nationals we will also be giving out waterbottles, hackey sacks, frisbees, slinkies and some other cool things that I, at the moment, can't think of!!
I'm definatly a big fan of buttons and keychains from other teams!! ;) The slinkies last year (triangle, circle and square) were pretty sweet too!

And don't forget about our face-painting booth......

Our team met last night, and apparently we're ordering 2500 Pixie Sticks to hand out at Nationals.
That's only if our team doesn't eat them all first... :D
in the 2000 nationals someone was asking me to give him something from my team, but we didn't have buttons anymore, I didn't have anything! so I wrote my team's name and number on an orange and gave it to him.

Mousepads i've never seen before, so two points to Chris's team for originality
I think spam team should give out cans of spam :)

spam... now there's an idea. it's a good one i think. you know how during matches, you get hungry, but you're not always able to get food? well, with spam, you could keep food on you all the time and never have to worry about it going bad! sounds like a solid idea to me.

The pixie stix are a cool idea but with that many i think the'll be gone in the first day your there.

How did teams at the Lone Star Regional enjoy the flags that 118 gave to each team?
I saw a number of them being used on robots, which was our original intent, but we were also pleased to see them on carts, in the pits, and in the stands.
For those of you that weren't there, we gave each team two flags (Old Glory with the team number printed ~8" tall, and a small Robonauts logo in the corner. One was over a red background, one blue.), as well as some cheap mounting hardware.
We're most likely going to do the same thing at Nationals, but we might just slim down to one flag per team - most didn't get that the flag's color was supposed to indicate the team's alliance anyway.

Auauauauaaaa.....
I got a unique gift from team 322 (?). It included a map of West Virginia, a pencil, candy (yes!), and other things. Cool becuase they handed them out on their own private bads, custom made, not with a company sponsor on it (Infenion, etc.).

I liked the 'chocolate rocks' that some team handed out at Nats. I voted for 'candy' because there is only so much you can do with a shopping bag full of buttons... but food; there's always a need for that. Tatoos were cool too... I also got '69' tan lines. But nothing beats those little fans that one of the Delphi teams handed out.

Yeah you cant beat the fans, especially when you are frying in Florida. Although the only downside was that some of them broke quite easily...oh well we got rid of all of them, and people liked them.
As judging by the three drawers of FIRST giveaways I have gathered over the past two years... and none are doubles thank you!... [was mascot at nationals one year, much trading] I have found the coolest objects to be....[drumroll]
-mini barrel of monkeys i got at one of the competitions... has kept me ocupied many a time.
-the chocolate rocks from one of the hawaii teams
-phonecard
-the fannypacks and pouches
-anything you can mooch off team members (ie- jerseys, hats, noisemakers) I really love the shirt I traded one of the brazilian teams for.
Our team has given out some stuff that disapears quite quickly. I personally really liked the earplugs [which were a big hit] and the hologram stickers [some of whom still reside stuck to the bleachers at Drexel -they save our seats in the off-season I guess-]
We've also done homemade pins, chocholate mints -hey anyone want some melted chocolate? you can lick it off the wrapper!-, and occasionaly sticks.

At the LA Regional some team from Hawaii was going around the pits hand delivering every team a box of chocolate covered macadamia nuts. Ummm were those good. That must have been pretty expensive - I know those things aren't cheap.
because we're the 'Feds' we were thinking about handing out cheep plastic handcuffs. However, we couldn't this past year due to lack of funding. But when we finally have money to spend on handcuffs i think that they will be very cool.

For the record, I got sick on those gummy sharks... couldn't stand another gummy for a week :)
Those 225 keychains were incredibly cool. My mom still keeps one or two on her enormous keychain she started in 1980...
My all-time favorite hand-out, however, was the pre-greased shop rags in 2001. I remember a guy just sitting on this huge orange-looking clear bag, when I walked up to trade. He got up, dug out a rag, and handed it to me, with the team number written out and grease on one side :) That was definitely one of the funniest handouts I've seen.
This year 422 handed out "I drive my other car with JOYSTICKS" as a bumper sticker, but they were too small and tended to become one with a car's paint (read: personal experience). A very zen sticker if I say so myself.

team candy can melt. team button its light inexpensive each year and you they become collectors items.
This year at the Johnson & Johnson Mid-Atlantic Regional, a team brought one of Kodak's picture maker kiosks that they let everyone use for free. Very cool to be able to have instant hard-copies of your digital photos.

I think it would be really really cool to get DVD's. My first year with robotics was 2002, so i only heard about the cool stuff that people had previously handed out, not to mention the awesome stuff i got this year. Phone cards and stuff are really good ideas, but I would really like to see someone do a DVD that has a demo of their robot set to music and/or a section that has profiles about all the team members with short scenes of them working on something. I know it is expensive to do that kind of stuff, but that doesn't mean you have to hand them out, you could have contests to win them. I would be the first one in line if i could win a DVD! Just an idea. :D
Erin Rapacki
22-08-2002, 14:20
Some teams and companies already do this, but they make a digital video similar to what you are describing, put them on little CD's, and hand them out to people. That may be cheaper than DVD's and you get the same results. Also, can't assume that everybody has a DVD player, computers are still more accessable.
P.S. I still like candy the best, it's the least time and space consuming, and you get to say 'Yum.'

Our team made a cool little interactive CD. I don't know if you have seen them but we burned them onto those 100MB MiniCDs. It was mainly for judges, but I think a few got passed around to other teams.
On our CD we had a Flash animation which had info on our team and a copy of the animation.
I would reccommend Flash MX for ppl interested in making a CD...its an incredibly fun (for me, at least) program to learn and you can do many cool things with it. It isn't hard to create a menu and some buttons with text, and cool stuff like rollovers for buttons is built in.

Well I guess 247's venture into the candy market didn't make a big impact. Last year we (being 247) gave out gummy bears and full-size hershey's bars. We made our own wrappers for them which gave stats about our bot and a picture of the bot.
I think in handouts the main thing you want is people to remember you by the handout. Now I think the candy bars we did at 3 regionals were way to expensive to give away but the idea on them was good.
I have a bunch of handouts sitting in a box in my room, mostly buttons, and keychains and only 1 has something that triggers a Button -> Bot memory. That is from '00, team 66's Mystery Machine, and their Route 66 symbol. (Their robot, for those whom never saw:)

At 2002 Nationals, the Dragon Slayers' mini-beam swords made for some great between-competition fun. I think they were my favorite handout, but the classic button is definitely always fun to collect. Bottled water would definitely be the most practical though.
Our head prof is like a 50 year old toddler, in 2001 we handed out rubber goldfish that said 31 on them, so this little kid walks up and says "can i have a button" all sweet and cute, our prof yells "no, but you can have a fish" this little kid must be scared for life, but we were all rolling with laughter
and the triangle to my team 225 keychain i got in 2000 is somewhere in philmont, but i do have the square still on my keys,
oh and their was a team at lone star that was throwing madi gras beads around in the hotel, and they wanted me to flash them, needless to say i didnt, but a guy on my team did, and they threw him beads before they realized it was a guy, ive never seen more embarrased people.

Rubberbands are actually quite useful. I remember that a team handed them out last year at competition. The usefulness came in when we needed to tie a few rope strands together on our robot's basket. We didn't have extra rope, but hey! We did had some rubberbands. So, I'd like to say "thank you" to that team :)

yeah, that is a good idea, albeit not as marketable as some other stuff. i think that toys in general are the best giveaways, because they keep the non-involved people in any team's pit entertained, while leaving the engineers and other informed people pest-free to work on the robot!! :p i know they certainly kept me entertained last year...well, that's my idea.

Last year my team gave out mainly buttons, but we had a few extra shirts lying around that we gave to judges. We also had quite a few 2in diameter circles of lexan and conveyor belt in our pit that one kid started writing our team number on and passing out. For any of you that watched the WorldCup this last summer, you may have noticed that after each match, the teams exchanged shirts. I think that this would be a fun idea for the HumanPlayers, Drivers, and Mentors to take part in. I don"t know whether it would be better to switch with an opponent or one of your alliance partners, but if you could get shirts cheap enough, this would be a really fun way to remember teams you had a direct involvement with. Also, as my team this year has a somewhat mystical/eastern religous/chi type theme, I"ve thought of getting someone on our team to learn yoga so we could have FIRST type yoga sessions to focus one"s concentration for the intense 10 seconds of box-placing and amass good karma to keep your robot working during the autonomous section.

OK so I have seen in several post people talking about the gear lubrication things. So here is the story, its called a garudder. I don't remeber the team that was passing them out, but they were by far the coolest thing I ever got in florida. When our team got them we couldn't figure out what the heck they were so we asked our engineer and he explained to us for a good 10 minutes or so how they worked. With the 1 offset tooth on the gear, each time it moves it leave a void to be filled. When it is filled with oil, it acts like a pump to move the oil down the shaft and out the other end. Those things were amazing me and my friend still have them on our key chains to this day.
Oh yea and I wanted to ask Tenley(Team238-aholic) what she wanted cozzies for? ;-) Everyone should talk to her about the whole trading shirts thing too. How many Shirt do you have from our team?

Yes, team 368's Hawaiian helmet handouts were great! Probably my favorite of all the things I've gotten at the competitions.
We gave out Barrel of Monkey keychains last year and they seemed to be a big hit (team Delphi gave us the Best Handout award last year at nationals). But, alas, we are unable to do so this year as they cost WAY too much money and considering the current economic recession, our lack of a NASA grant this year, and the lack of district funding this year, we are not looking to spend beaucoup d'argent.
We are still deciding this year what we are going to give out, but like my teammate pointed out, we are thinking bananas.
(If you didn't know, we tend to go ape over our monkey theme; each team member even carries a monkey with them at competition and we tie everything into monkeys. Our new award for team member of the day: Ape du Jour).

That wouldn't be really original, but if you label something on it, that would be pretty darn original....
I'd raid my nearest radioshack and get honda civic zipzaps and put a team logo on it, and give 1 to each team or something, a great way to waste money...
By far the coolest thing I got was at the UTC regionals last year and got these wicked cool tapemeasures/levels (originality) and caribiners(just plan cool and useful) :yikes:

one of the collest things i got was chocolate from this hawaii team... the chocolate are like pebbles... it looked pretty cool.

Yah our team got a couple of those tapemeasurers too, they rock
They were giving those tapemeasures out like crazy I must have like 10! I remember having tapemeasure races in the pits for pins:p

Not sure if anyone's mentioned this... but hacky sacks would be cool.
I'm not talking high quality, just Sipa Sipa's or something with the team name written on it. Could be cool. *nods emphatically*

Hundreds and Hundreds of leis.
Aloha!
This year my team is thinking about giving out red and black masks
I hope everyone realizes that giving away stuff is illegal this year. The only thing that is allowed is pin trading. Read the site info documents if you don't believe me.
The site says that you just cant give away food i thought? :yikes:
P.S. It is only illegal if you get caught!

engraved razor blades.
for the past 4 years team 57 has put a LOT of money and effort into our Two favorite giveaways : stuffed leopards and leopard tails!!! they always seem to be popular, but nowhere on this thread have they been mentioned! am i wrong about this? have our handouts just gotten thrown away and forgotten? i would really like to know because if people dont like them then we can spend our money on other things. PLEASE give us some feedback. oh yeah and i personally like the lego men.
A frisbee or a football... they're is always fun...

I remember 1 year at Hartford my team, team 157 passed out stress balls with a sponsor logo on it. it was cool cuz when they called are name we all stood up and threw them behind us.
Pins that flash, aka blinky pins, everyone loved them in 1998 and 1999.

Well, I've gotten lots of cool handouts!
Buckeye 2002:
The Who? Gave out plastic "you put it together" models of CNC's
Some team gave out tomato shaped stress squishes, those were awesome
and 469 gave out little bannana necklaces, but when detached from the string, they posed a small choking hazard, but we won't get into that
we always gave out these:

How about 'trading' or 'donating' (since teams can't pedel thier good this year) the following:
Sweatbands (for the $@#$@#$@#$@# Texas sun)
Cowboy hats
Lexan waterbottles
Segways! (you'll be my favourate team for sure!)
Playing cards with team number and/or logo and/or robot on back
Little 'tray within tray' CDs with all your teams' secrets
Haribo gummy bears (superior to all, just that the have to be imported from Germany first)
Music CDs (with stuff played at the competitions)
Visors
Scaled models of your robots (with figurines of your drivers and human players! a complete 'Action Set' (collect all 288 to win))
On that note, team baseball cards with robto and such (good for Trading with other team's cards. You can even have then catagorized as 'Rookies', 'Most Valuble Alliance', 'Stackers', 'kings of the Hill' and so on)
CAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hugs and kisses (choclate ones can substitute)
Glowsticks and those flashing Neon-Helium LEDs (for the social/rave on Saturday)
I have an idea, but I'm not gonna tell....be creative, think out of the box, y'all
I do too.:) I want to give out little teeny tiny robots to each team next year.
:edit:
Ooo yeah did I forget to mention that they will move.

The NJ Regional was a bagstravaganza. Each of the five BMS sponsored teams had a different canvas tote bag. If you went around the pits you could collect a whole set!!!
They are great for carrying around all of those other souveneirs you pick up at the competition- or carrying home that trophy...
See team 25 for your bag in the Curie pits this week. We REALLY want to give away some of these things!!!

I looked at the map of the area, and calculated that it'll be at leats 600 meters (700 yards) from the closest field to the entrance of the Astrodome, so wouldn't it be nice if one of the teams gave out SMART cars? They get the drivers and the robot quickly from the pits to the fields and it's small enough to park in the pits amongs your robot and tools.
In case anyone is curious, below is the map of the area. Six Flags is right in from of the Astrodome on the other sode of highway 610 between kirby and Fannin (note the pedestrian bridge across the highways).

Simple, Money, the people will love you for it.
LoL. Seriously.
-Stress Balls are very cool.
-Frisbees too.
-I would also like to see large blow up weapons with the logo's printed. (We WOULD have had large swords (4 feet!) but some one forgot to order them. I wont say who.)
-Playing Cards with Logo on back is a great idea.
-Battle type card game with pictures of the last year(s) robots for the kids. The game would probably be similar to LOTR or Magic The Gathering. 1 starter deck : Free. Memories and somthing to do on the bus ride home : Priceless.
-CD Roms are a great idea.
-Also if many many/all regionals would archive matches. Then a DVD of the competition up to Nationals would be great.
-Silly Puddy 'nuff said. The logo on the egg of corse. :D
-Bumper Stickers with familliar FIRST stuff. "For Instpiration and Recognition of Science and Technology." And other cool stuff.
-T-SHIRTS! Free T-Shirts rule! It gives people something to wear to school on the first day back from competition.
-Kissing Booth! Get your cutest and hottest members and have them hand out Kisses (Chocolate of corse) to people who come up.
-REALLY Big Smiley Face Beach Balls with logo on back. w00t
-CAMERAS Like the FIRST cameras given to the Refs and VIPs at some of the Regionals this year. FIRST logo and Your Team Logo.
-Batteries! You know how many CD players are brought to each trip.
-Bottled Water with FIRST/Your logo. (like last year at Nats. ;))
-And lastly FOOD! Every one LOVES Food. Fruit, Candy what ever. Food is the best.

YES, those canvas tote bags were very useful. I ready thing it's a great item. ALL the judges like them too.
But... I got a COCONUT from team 25 at the J&J.
The note was very, very cute. Nice idea!
(we still do not know what to do with it!)

glowsticks
we were thinkin glowsticks, but it took too long to order
we ran out of buttons... its all uta's fault :p ;)
maybe next year we could get bolts with our logo on them... we gave away alot of bolts anyway ;)
utishpenguin
06-04-2003, 21:36
custom imprinted bolts? where are you going to write the text? haha stickers aroudn the tread doesn't last long... haha it will kinda be like kehillah ...mmmm mentee similarity! haha:p
like, on the head of the bolt, have the "hrt" logo engraved into it... maybe we could get vijay to do it with the dremel :D
utishpenguin
06-04-2003, 21:43
it woudl be very funny if people actually use it! haha
should people use it or no?
if use... then the souvenoir is gone...
if not... its kinda heavy having a bolt
that would actually be a cool way to drive a bolt in
instead of having phillips or flathead, or (god forbid...) hex... you have 3 little bracket-shaped holes that you stick a bracket-shaped head into. hard to strip, and stylish too ;)
utishpenguin
06-04-2003, 21:52
dude.... who woudl be bored enough to examine bolts on a robot, unless you make a monstrous amoutn of it... maybe you can make it to a sort of puzzle... arranged in a certain way... i dont know. i think you have to give away scredrivers... or hammers haha:p
how about giving away an engineer
utishpenguin
06-04-2003, 22:02
that woudl take a while
a) we dont have allot
b) if we want to have allot it woudl take yrs to "make" one
c)it is just afreaky thought
that would be funny though... I'm willing to trade a button for someones engineer...
utishpenguin
06-04-2003, 22:07
who doesnt? i am willgin to give 10000000 buttons for a GOOD engineer! wheeeeeeee!
gah... good engineers are hard to find... :(

well ..... we coudl good engineers out of ourselves.

Lets see.....we gave out a few boomerangs...yes boomerangs. we didn't have a lot but some people got them. we also gave out buttons and fliers and some delphi blinker lights.
all i have to say is: is it possible to get button elbow?
MichalSkiba
07-04-2003, 10:04
how about giving out aluminum plates (small ones for keychains) with the team logo or a picture of the robot CNCed onto it? Just get one person to do the program, and someone else who is REALLY bored to monitor it. :p
I would like to build an engineer to work on our robot... That would be funny...
utishpenguin
07-04-2003, 22:31
you can make" make -an engineer kits" and hand them out
utishpenguin
07-04-2003, 23:08
are they going to be human? or robotic? human kits can have some slight difficulties.... as for robotic engineers... of course we all coudl crank up those right? a little redundant
Jonathan M.
07-04-2003, 23:13
I want one! Hehe. I'm telling you people give out free gasoline! Just like fill up water bottles and pass it out! lol. But I really do want to see a robotic engineer. I think they would listen better then some human engineers some times... Some times.
utishpenguin
09-04-2003, 06:16
thats liek a free mechanic.... some engineers actually have good critiques.... are you going omit them too? haha

MikeFromTeam71
10-04-2003, 07:44
we gave out a few engineers, some pit crew people, and a programmer
I don't think anyone can touch StuyPulse 694's premiums... 7/16 wrenches with our logo on it and beach balls ^-^
I think one of the coolest things for teams to hand out is tools. My team handed out pop-rivit guns at the
UTC Reginal. When a team gives tools away it shows that they are being good sports:)

talking about premiums.... while we were making buttons... the lamenating didn't go on completely.. being the money saving person i am... i woudl tear out the lamenating with eth paper still intact with the pin and called a premiums.... hahahaha and when our mentee messed up a bit... we called it mentee edition... cross apply logic to the appearance of mentor editions......some upside down ones are collectors edition... i mean if stamps are printed upside down its valuable right???
