I have a lego technic dirtbike motorcycle that has a chain that conects the rear wheel to the "engine". The chain fits right over the teeth on the standard lego gears and you can add or remove as many links as you wish. This is a pretty old model might it might be worth a call to lego to see if they still make the chain.

This would work great for your "steering belt"

if that chain method doesn't work, take some pulleys and link them together. It'll be more weight and won't look as pretty, but it'll do the job

Nor is it new in general.
Refer to Team 998's 2003 Robot. It was pretty cool, I got to see it in Seattle this year.

they still make it you can buy it from pitsco, along with a whole slew of other neat parts for lego.

Tytus, it seems that someone has already beat us and made a fully working ‘crab drive’. I just found this (http://www.magneticpie.com/LEGO/models/yogiCub/yogiCubHome.html) a few days ago and this seems like a good place to share it.

This is a great webpage that fully describes just about everything involved in his creations.

True, But he has Eight(8) of those fancy Teeathed turntables on there

I have ZERO(0)

and you have two(2) on your swerve drive

I made one a few years ago using the chains to to the turny-bits of the drive. It had a ball conveyor up front and was supposed to drive untill it found a ball and pick it up but it got scrapped to start another build.
