What ever habbened to the FIRST-SME partnership that we had in 2002, we did not have it last year. I am not sure of this year.

Ya man!,
does anybody else miss the cards?

Well, I've still got mine in my wallet... it's not of any use so I don't miss it.

Jeff Waegelin

It ran for about 3 years, but I think they discontinued it because their survey and such had ended, and it was somewhat of a useless thing, anyways. I still have mine, too. But... can you claim to have a 4-digit card number? I can :p

Joe Matt
27-09-2003, 23:32
Mabey we should start our own little card... hmm....

Ryan Foley
28-09-2003, 19:25
no, what we should start is a Chief Delphi membership card. It could have our name, team number, CD user name, member # (i think we all have one). I think that would be cool.

<--------------or it could just have this information

I like the idea of cards. Obviously they are successful, or else all of us wouldn't still be carrying our SME cards :)

I like the idea of CD cards.. but who is going to make them? Maybe it would be along the lines of Andy's original suggestion of a 'Who-Am-I' field, only in card form: listing the person's name, team number, CD name, etc. Cute idea!

I miss the FIRST/SME cards... a replacement would be nice.

Any thoughts to a FIRST-a-holics Anonymous Card?

Joe Matt
28-09-2003, 20:57
Well, I can photoshop a standard card and everyone can edit they own info/picutres/CD Number (click on profile fied, and the last number in the URL is your CD number.) And you can then print them out and laminate them.

If anyone has a high res FIRST logo, send it to me.

I really like the idea of a CD card. Then you would know who is on CD that you see at competitions. If there is some way team 47 could organize this, I'd be willing to pay for all costs involved with making and mailing my card and I'm sure many others here would willing to as well.

Leon Machado IV
28-09-2003, 23:28
I believe iF would be more then happy to help with some of the costs (once we get some more money in) and perhaps finding some local sponsors to donate printing etc.

I also think that would be a great idea, especially if it had your user name and avatar on it.

Just some advice from someone who has made ID cards -- do all design work at 900dpi. People tend to examine cards more closely than most printed materials, and 300dpi often doesn't cut it.

A CD Card would be neat, but I don't think the production costs would be worth the value of them.

Someone make a design for a card, and I am willing to bet that Brandon would find room on the server for it.
Make your own and laminate it yourself.

I'd make one, but I bet people want something better looking then just text.

i'd definatly jump that if it is open to the public (assuming it got CD's approval)

Let's see what Brandon says. I think the dimensions of it should be the same size of drivers license. I have some ideas, but I won't start untill Brandon says something.

RAGE had ID cards which we laminated and wore on lanyards when traveling last year.

I made up a simple Word document using a labels template, took digital pictures of all the team members and manipulated them in Photoshop, printed onto card stock and used a small laminating machine to laminate them.

Our sponsor donated the lanyards for us. It was simple to do and inexpensive.

Team Hammond, with support of the school city, makes regular ID cards for the team (like the ones that the students have for school). They're about the size and thickness as a credit card, durable, long lasting, and may hold up better than a laminated piece of paper.

Maybe if CD or someone has access to a machine like that, a school or organization could let them use it. Really, all you'd have to pay for are the blank cards... There's a lot of potential with this. :)

Joe Matt

My design idea for the card IMHO should provide the user with a card that they can show off for practical purposes, to be placed in a card holder or lanyard on shirt so they can display it like a name tag. I'm thinking of having the CD logo on it along with the person's name on it in big letters, followed by CD number, CD user name, and other info TBD.

maybe the CD username should be the bold letters, as CD people who have never met the person face to face will recognize that first.

then below it their real name, and CD #.

Putting the perons team number may not be a bad idea either (although when they switch teams, they would need a new card).

I think that a template made for a CD card that would be posted on the website (in multiple formats, so everyone can make one) would be good. That way, they can change their card when they want too (if their team number, user name, etc changes)

I don't have much homework tonight, so I'll throw toghether a generic template, so we can start a small design competiton. But I'm surprised that Brandon hasn't commented about this yet....

I forgot to mention that in addition to the ID card, each RAGE member received an Emergency Card which was also laminated - it had the cellphone numbers of all the adult chaperones and the name and phone number of the hotel we were staying at on it. It was easy to clip to the lanyard so if someone did get separated from the group, they could easily call one of the adults.

Also, the avatar is important, as I recognize many posters on this board by it first, not by their username.

I can put together a design submission as well, but I don't want to start until we get the okay from Brandon.

I often wear a Drexel FIRST Robotics necklace with 2 SME badges, 2 MOE ID badges, A voulunteer badge, and a FIRST keychain.

Do you think we should add member status for the CD badge: Junoir Member, Freq Contributer, Senoir Member, or Post-a-Holic (No Custom Titles that would be confusing)

...yep thats 5 digits (if you were wondering...), i like the idea of Chiefdelphi cards. But i like the frist design on the boards. I just think that it should be simpler, i mean the whole idea ofd the card ould be to show that you are a member of the forums and your user name. The other stuff the person who *seen your wiht the card* could just get off the forums, or ask haha.....and guys rememebr, there is a back to this card so all the fancy shmancy stuff could be on the reverse side......just an idea, i am not a wiz at graphics design, but keep going.... it's a good idea, don't give up!

Nice idea and some great designs too. Brandon is kinda busy, and so are all of the other coaches- so I will bring this idea up at the next team meeting (tomorrow night is "meet the parents" night) and I'll get back to you with an answer from the team. Stay tuned - but, just to let ya know - I'm voting in favor on CD Forum cards

Word of this idea has spread all over the CD Forums and us at the Inspiration Foundation have found this a great idea. But this will cost some green from us if we decide to follow through and purchase the supplies needed to make the cards, and before that may be done, we would like to ask a question. How many of you would actually be interested in getting a CD Forums "id" card, and also if you are and you had to pay for it, would $2-3 be reasonable to cover printing and shipping costs?

~Michael Dessingue I would definitely be interested in getting one and $2-$3 would be very reasonable in my opinion. If it costs even $7 to print and mail, I'd pay it. I wouldn't pay more than it actually costs but whatever it does cost (up to like $7) I'd pay it.

Oh, BTW, Dan 550, could you reduce the size of the image in your signature? It is so large that it is causing a horizontal scroll bar to appear at 1024x768. A good rule of thumb is that sig images should be no wider than 640 pixels.
