View Full Version : Corporate Sponsorship... a piece of cake

Amanda M
29-09-2003, 16:49
Recently I have been getting e-mails about our team's marketing manual. It is about twenty pages long, and it gives a very detailed description of how we market ourselves to our corporate sponsors, other teams in our school, other teams in FIRST, etc.

So far I have recieved very positive feedback on the handbook, and if anyone is interested in recieving a copy, please post your school address, or a personal address of a member of your team (if you don't want anyone to know where you live, e-mail me at mandy@team60.com and it'll be confidential) and I will send you a copy.

Also, we offer mentorship (both financial and technical) for teams that would like help.

Thanks,
Mandy

Why don't you just post it in the white papers for everybody to see? Also saves you the work of having to email it individually.

Amanda M
29-09-2003, 19:46
I'm not going to be e-mailing it. We actually got a company (H&H Printers) to make us copies of it. They are bound and everything. I can't e-mail it at this time, because we do not have it digitalized.

Just to give you an idea of how effective it is...

I just received a message from a local company that we mailed out our initial contact letter to (8 days ago). The contact wanted to know who to make the check out to for the donation. We have never had contact with this company before. When one of our marketing students called her back the contact said the she made the check out to the KHS Robotics Team and it should be here in a few days.

I do not know how much the donation is for but one letter, and one phone call... How many candy bars or discount cards is that??

It really works and is very effective. We will be happy to help any of you with your corporate marketing plans.

Just today we heard from 2 potential sponsors that they probably won't be ble to help us. Then, this afternoon I got the handbook. This gives me a few new ideas. I am going to spend the weekend working on this & try agin on Monday. You may have just helped save GRR 340. We aren't out of the woods yet, but at least now we have a Bionic Bulldog to help us.

With the Buzz that's comming to Rochester this next weekend I am going to be playing...err, working overtime this week. Ah, the definition of FIRST, when what should be work becomes play. Hey thanks a whole lot guys!
We just got word that a new potential sponsor wants us to give them a presentation. This year for us is a big deal when it comes to sponsorship, because all the grants in our area are gone. Most of our major sponsors from last year had a fund that ran out, and our bucket's gettin' dry...
But, not to worry :)
Thanks for the excellent book! I believe it will give us the edge we need to secure our sponsorships!

I know there are a lot of errors. But we don't use this manual to send to companies. The only part our sponsors see is the Power Point (which, believe me, has been thoroughly edited again and again since this was sent out). This manual is used specifically to train the marketing team, and to teach our marketing vision. Our sponsors don't even know the existence of such a book.

Thank you, though, and if you could PM me to tell me anyway, I would appreciate it!

Thanks so much for sharing this with the FIRST community, and for taking the time to convert it to pdf. It's a great resource, and I tell you that it will come in handy for us, since we lost one of our sponsors this year.

I know this link is a little old but we could use your help. We are trying to find out if our team's manual has been effective or not. We are making a report to our school district and sponsors and feedback on the success of the manual would be helpful. If anyone has had success using the ideas from the manual would you please post the success stories here or e-mail me so we can put them in our report. My e-mail is shardina@team60.com

Thanks for the feed back.

Thanks,
Mandy
Team 60 Marketing Director

Hi Amanda,

I'm from Team 980. I don't know you personally, but I know Team 60 are our good Buds! I would like to have your marketing manual, as I'm working on getting corporate sponsorship for our team. I've put out a number of proposals in a "cold-call" sort of way, but am wondering how much a personal contact in the company has to do with success. In other words, did you guys know someone personally in the company who helped you get the Ford sponsorship of last year or the year before, or any other large corporate sponsorship you've had in the past? What is the largest amount you've received in one year from one sponsor? Did you ever get a major corporate sponsor from a cold-call kind of approach, where you didn't know anyone and you just sent a proposal out of the blue?

I'd also like to hear from other teams who've gotten major corporate sponsorship. Can you give me some answers to my questions above and any other information about your successful actions in getting your major (about 15K or more) sponsor?

In the meantime, Mandy, I would really appreciate your materials. Possibly you already gave a manual to Doug Hogg or Gary Hedge, but I would appreciate my own copy as I'm working on sending proposals daily and I'd like to see what you've done as soon as possible. Let me know if you'd like some reimbursement for mailing cost. Send to: Michele Kirkland

Thanks so much!
Hope you guys will come to the Chatsworth Scrimmage!

Best, Michele

Hello again,
I'm new to Chief Delphi and I didn't read the entire thread before sending you an e-mail moments ago, asking for a copy of your manual. I then noticed the date and also saw that you'd run out and that it was on your website... yada, yada, yada. So I've just downloaded it from your website. Thank you.

I'm still interested in hearing from you and anyone else:
1) What role prior personal association had to do with successfully gaining a major sponsorship (if it did)?
2) What has been the largest sponsorship in one year from one sponsor?
3) Any other successful actions in procuring major sponsorship. (When I say "major", I'm thinking about 15K or more).

Thanks again for the manual.

Michele

We are students from Liberato Team #1603 (Brazil), a public institution that is participating of First Robotics Competition.

Despite of difficulties with the conclusion of the project, we did it!
Our Robot is ready rock. It was very hard to construct the robot, inspite of, we had just one teacher helping us, and the FIRST kit of parts came 3 weeks later.

Last week, we come across a huge problem: we have no resources to travel to U.S.. It puts all our knowledge and hard work in slite edge.

We have enough money to send just one single student! If we keep going this way, we will not participate of the FIRST spirit, taking our hands off the oportunity to trade knowledge and experience with other team members.

Every help is usefull.

Greetings Liberato!

Do not give up; all things are possible when you are a FIRST robotics team! You've done a great job so far. Please tell me when and where your regional is to be.

Visit every business owner in your area and show them photos of what you do and get them to help sponsor you. Also have the students write their successes and what they gotten out of being on the robotics team. Show the most inspiring successes to the business owner.

Our team will try to help. We are checking into some possibilities, but do not wait. Take action. We're not sure what we will be able to do. I need to know when and where your regional competition is.

Best wishes,
Michele

Help! I'm interested in mailing letters to companies asking for their support becuase we specifically use their product on our robot every year. How do I go about the presentation item? Becuase they are not local, we cannot just drive there and show them our robot. Should I include pictures of the robot in build process/compeition in the letter, or tell them I can send them electronically (email)?
