Are all the pics on this site missing for anybody else? I had to search around to find an invisible "new thread" button just ot post this.
--------edit--------
It works in Mozilla though.

I had problems ealier w/ the "go to new first post" showing up on the portal page for the past few days.
sanddrag

Same here. The reply button is not loading in the thread. And the only image I see of the 10 newest on the portal is that of Swamp Thing. This happened a while back too. We had a thread on it then. It was some internet worm or something I believe.
EDIT: No smilies either and the same thing is happening with eBay.

i think this problem maybe more of a IE glitch then a problem w/ CD, b/c i have similar problems when i try and load this page w/ IE but it works perfectly fine when i load it w/ mozilla firebird.
try downloading the latest IE patch, that might solve the problem

I'm really surprised to hear this, I've had no problems viewing anything on this site, and I run IE. As well, I tried it in Netscape and had no problems. Perhaps it's just a slow day on the server?

Yeah....I coulda told ya that, and I'm glad I'm not crazy. But as tom (I think) said above it works perfectly with Mozilla Firebird.

Yea, I had told Brandon about this earlier... and I rebooted and it worked fine then, but now the problem happened again with this thread. and things like the smilies aren't visible and all... yet some images DO work, which makes no sense.

I've also been having this problem today, and its happening on a few other websites i visit. I'm running XP and Internet Explorer 6.
When i surf the net on Opera 7.11 all the pictures show up just fine so maybe its something to do w/ Internet Explorer 6?

OK not really, but close enough for a geek.
If this is a worm, this could spell mucho disastero for the Internet. Slashdot is probaly one of if not the most consistent and well managed sites on the 'net, and it's apparently been brought down...

Ok, I think I got it,
It a Chief Delphi problem....
After going to CD you can't see pictures on any other site, but if you close Internet Explorer then reopen it (don't go to CD) you can see pics at other site. I dont know how to explain other website peoblems, except they are probably not related. Some idiot must of hacked CD for the fun of it, Norton Internet SEC. aint giving me ne warning, so it must be something being hosted on CD.
Well At least I found out how to see pics on other sites....

(I am still going through all my online programming crap trying to see what could be doing something like this. I am sure it is just some person that wants to feel important by doing a stupid act, to impress a few of his "hacker" friends. Its things like that, that really get me mad)
The problem is with Pro. I just tried IE6 on my quasi-roommate's laptop running XP Pro and I experienced the same problem.
Edit: That is to say that I corroborate, not to make it seem like my computer genius developed this idea on its own.

I am thinking that someone hacked CD's server then threw a make-shift "virus" onto the server, and it somehow is overriding an internet setting for pictures, tht might explain why it only happens on XP pro and with IE 6. I am trying to figure out how to explain its "wierd" behavior, maybe poor programming. I hope CD finds out who did this, if indeed it was done with intent to harm, which I would say is an almost certainity.

Some of you people are saying that it's XP Pro.... I would not rule out XP Home cuz it's what i'm running and i'm having the same errors as you people w/ XP Pro.
I would say that it is either a IE 6 worm (since some w/ IE6 are having probs and some arent) or a hacker (which is possible but its weird that Brandon hasn't addressed the issue and it only affects IE)

it is definitely an IE6 problem. I am running IE5 (because I was too lazy to update it) and I have not had a single problem running cd, slashdot, ebay, or any other site.
Did anyone check the microsoft IE site and see if they know what's going on?

Actually its chiefdelphi's problem. It is the only website that this happens on.

Okay, so we know that this apparantly started happening suddenly, last night. Since it was so sudden, it is very very unlikely that it is was caused by IE or windows.... Simply because not everybody does windows updates in that amount of time. I haven't run a windows update and it happens to me.
While there is probably a bug in IE which allows this to happen (and always has allowed it), the problem probably started when a change was made to the php code which ultimately spits out HTML. There's something in the html that crashes something in IE and images stop working until you restart it.
I tried validating the site through W3. W3 tried using an algorithm to detect what encoding the site is using. It failed. I suspect there may be some really odd character that is getting inserted into the HTML text somewhere after the last working image and before the first non-working image.
If that's not the cause, this site is not using valid HTML. There's mismatching <font> tags all over the place, for example. According to standard, browsers aren't supposed to be able to support pages like this. I doubt this is the case though, I think it's some encoding problem.

The bug seems to be on CD's end. To the naysayers saying slashdot is fine and blah blah blah...
Technically.. every site is broken, and every site is working.
For those of you not seeing any problems on CD, every site is working.
For those of you that are seeing problems on CD, you are also seeing at every other site which uses PHP to dynamically create pages.
The problem seems to be some kind of missing fragment of CD's script that isn't allowing the pictures to appear. It seems every image not in /forums/images/___.ext will not appear. (For example: /forums/images/smilies/mad.gif does not appear, but /forums/images/posticonnew.gif does [next to spotlights]) When Properties of an unviewable image is displayed, the correct URL is shown, but the filesize is labeled as -1 bytes.
When you go to any other site after ChiefDelphi that uses PHP, this same problem shows up... to you. Which is why when you, say, go to Google, it's fine. Because Google doesn't use PHP. But SlashDot does.
The only way I see around this, until CD fixes whatever the cause of this is to close all IE windows, clear your Temporary Internet Files, and load back up to other sites, and save CD for the end of the trail.

This post by Greg reminded me of a similar problem a while ago. The latest image in the picture gallery had something with it that IE did not like to render, causing it to choke and not display any other new images from that point on. Once you restarted IE, it worked fine, until trying to load that one image again. So I killed the image, and all is fine.
