Does anyone out there know any good free first-person games? I am bored and have a brand new machine I just put together. I want to test it out!

If you really want to test it out chances are that a free game won't be able to push it to the lmits. Some games that are good (or ok), and free include:

America's Army - Probably the best free game ever (http://www.americasarmy.com/) - Wait for the new special forces patch.


Return to Castle Wolfenstein - If you like the one from a few years ago, here is a new free online version. (http://games.activision.com/games/wolfenstein/) - Probably be better to download that one here (http://www.gamingasylum.net/) .

If you looking for a free shooter that isnt online that is good, your chances are very slim.

Thanks Clark, Although on Wolfenstine I cant find the exact game you are talking about. I see patches and demos but nothing indicating a free game.

America's Army is the way to go- what are all of your guys's names? It'd be awesome if all FIRST AAO players could meet in a match one day...

And when is SF ever gonna come out? I heard nov 5th, which is tomorrow, but I'm not getting my hopes up..

I played 1.9 for about 2 weeks when it came out after 1/2 a year of not playing the game - quit after 20 some honor cause I played too much.

Set up a time during Thanksgiving and I'll play :)

In America's Army I use "BrainiacMonk", but I havent played in a logn time, and for some reason i lost all of my qualifications (sniper, parachute, medic). I had them all, and now they are gone, chances are I'll play a little more after SF comes out.

As for now I'm playing a game called Call of Duty (VERY cool new game).

Go to the microsoft site and download a free trial version of Metal Gear Solid.. The original (well, maybe not the original Metal Gear but the first one that was released on PSX - First PSX that is!!)

DO SOMETHING! Are you still sitting there? Gooooood! I have trained you well! By the way have you been to Xiao Xiao (stick fighting at its best!) (http://www.xiaoxiaomovie.com) ? If you haven't, you should. it only has a few games (#4 is the best game) and mainly movies (#'s 3 and 5 are the very best stick fighting animations in the world :) ), but its definitely worth looking at!

Hm. The Unreal 2 XMP demo is pretty nice. It's a team-oriented FPS. I haven't played in a while so I don't know what the userbase is like now. (I fried my Radeon 9700 Pro on the way back from Xmas vacation.. then I screwed it up more so that I can't even boot linux without needing a videocard now). But Unreal2 is a very good game if you want to put a big load on your computer. Personally, I'd start saving money to buy: Halflife 2, Unreal Tournament 2004, and Doom 3. I know that's what I'm doing! :D (I'm also saving up to sell my 9700p to buy a 9800pro to OC it to an XT and buy 512mb more of RAM to get the dual-channels going) I need money. :)

Also, I REALLY liked ET.. but the public servers have REALLY gone downhill. It reminds me of counterstrike now with all the 12-year-old elitists. The private servers are still decent.. but hard to find.. because they're.. private :) I've been dieing to try Call of Duty but still have no money.

Tribes 2 isn't free but it's cheap enough to be. ^_^

Hmm.. if that's the TW/GW server, that's the server (I think) I always used to play on. I beat all the clan members but never got invited in.. not like I would have joined anyways :P I'm banned from a bunch of pub servers for insulting people :P (Woops!) TW was always nice to me :)
