Professional Organizations

For my social Informatics class I have to research 2 professional organizations as part of my final project that I would like to join as I continue my studies in Informatics (http://informatics.iupui.edu) and New Media (http://newmedia.iupui.edu). I am looking for some web organizations dealing with webdesign and multimedia. I found a couple that looked pretty cool, but I'm wondering if anybody is an active member or has researched any.
