Extras, External Spotlights, etc

Hello,

The External Spotlight (http://chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22627) feature (via JavaScript) is back & working. There shouldn't be anything you have to change to get it going again. If you want to see how it works check out the Extras (http://chiefdelphi.com/forums/extras.php) page, now conveniently linked under the 'quick links' drop-down up top. I'll be adding more goodies there as they are completed.

Yay, its back! I get that blank spotlight too like what sanddrag is talking about. I'm not sure why its doing that but it does return blank quite often... :confused:

should be fixed now. javascript doesn't like newline characters :) Thanks for trying to work this out but it's not all fixed yet. I'm getting pretty much the same thing as before. Make a blank html page with the script in it, refresh it about 20 times and you'll see the problem still there. Hrrrmm.

Check out the one on IndianaFIRST.org (http://indianafirst.org). It has a blank one about every 5 refreshes.

I can still get a blank one in under 30 refreshes. Try the one at the bottom of http://www.bcrobotics.com

Ok, I put another fix in there. I swear i did it 80 times before and didn't see any problems. Then I go and check again and they're coming up left & right. BAH.

Anyway, let me know if it still does it ..

Looking good now. I did 120 refreshes with not one coming up blank. However a few had some sort of wierd looking apostrophes like this one`Take a man to a FIRST contest and he`s entertained for three days. Teach a man to build a FIRST robot, and he`s out of your hair for six weeks a year...` - kmcclary I don't remember first the apostrophes looking wierd and second the apostrophes being around the whole thing. Perhpas this was part of the fix so it runs right? Anyway, it works well now. Good job!

I was going to mention this in the Upgrade Updates thread but I am not a mod so I can't. There is still one thing missing from the spotlight that we had in the old vB. When you see the spotlight at the top of the page, there used to be a little icon you could click on that would take you to the post from which it was spotlighted. Any chance of getting that back?

I just looked at the list and it is the same thing as there, but it was up at the random spotlight up top.

One more thing that should be added back in is the spell checker. I laugh every time people put 'congradulations' instead of the correct spelling.:ahh:
