Came across a very cool site today, thought I would share if anyone wanted to have some interesting player station controls.

I have been looking for a Sun monitor pinout. Looks like i should be able to boild a Sun to VGA adapter pretty easily, assuming the same signaling levels and. The ID pins are curious. I will have to fin out what they do. Anybody happen to have this freakish bit of knowledge?

Though I do have to wonder, the few sun monitors i've seen all had 5 BNC connectors on the back (R,G,B,H,V). Are there other types?

Yup, somebody gave me and old sun computer to mess with, that has something that sortof looks like a freakish hybrid betweed a D-sub connector and some coax connectors. They have a name and i have seen them b4 in RF test equiptment, but idon't remember their name right now.

Ya, they are called BNC connectors. They are typically found on RF test equipment, and on most professional video equipment.

Not the BNC conenctors, the others ones. The D-Sub looking ones.

i was just looking for a picture of the connector for everyone to see and came across this page (http://bedroomlan.dyndns.org/%7Ealexios/hardware_sunmonitors.html). if you look down a bit theres a picture and for the guy who wanted to make an adaptor, at quick glance it looks useful. i on the otherhand got a free adaptor when i bought my 21" sun monitor refurbished. the connector is so big that the adapter has a bend in it nowadays.

The manufacturer of the original D connectors was looking to expand their product line and came up with a hybrid connector in a D shell that allowed a small number of coaxial and normal pins combined into one connector. Although the origianl application was for military or Nasa use, video manufactures and RF designers both have used them in designs for many years. I believe the connector is actually a push on SMA connector although I don't remember the exact mil spec part # off the top of my head. They are still available but expensive.
