The CNN center isn't that bad.....almost the entire bottom floor is food vendors, GOOD food vendors, and its RIGHT next to the Dome (i was in atlanta @ the GWCC & dome for a national youth gathering) so feel free to be the last people awake in the morning cuz its 2 minute walk!!

All the hotels on the THS site are within walking distance of the stadium. The website also gives the distance in blocks if you're interested. While their prices might seem a little high, keep in mind that they include vouchers for food(~$60 worth) and tickets to the team party(costs $90 outside of the package).

Well, Team 811, Ratheon, BAE Systems / Bishop Guertin High School of Nashua, NH just qualified for nationals by winning the Regional Chairmans Award at the Granite State Regional in Manchester, NH.

We had saved the money for nationals, but until that moment (last weekend) we didn't have a way to quality.

Well, we are scrambling our brains out trying to make arrangements, and nothng is set just yet. We were looking at coming down by plane to a First organized hotel/motel, and if we do this, we are looking at the Super-8. (the only place with 17 quad rooms availible right now)

The big problem is that we need to PAY for it by Monday.....which is REAL TIGHT since we have not gotten deposits or parental signatures yet. (to know EXACTLY who can and is going)

Our second plan is to go down by bus, and to stay in a non-First hotel....but it turns out the Bus isn't as inexpensive as it first seemed.....so I think we might be leaning back to the first option listed above.

It is al very fast paced and exciting.....but I'm sure we will be able to see everyone there!

Anyone else staying at the Super-8? (is that the place that leaves the light on for you, or is that two numbers lower?)

Plus the team members get to sleep on the way and arrive there a day early. But overall, the team will bond on the way there...

The lap pool you refer to is inside the Turner Athletic Center near the hotel, it can only be used by people 21 years of age or older, and it costs $10 per person per day to use.

HOWEVER, the new tower at the Omni includes a HEATED OUTDOOR POOL available to all registered guests of the Omni Free of Charge. The pool is now open, and will continue to be open every day through our stay in Atlanta.

BTW, The Miracle Workerz (Team 365) will have 63 people at the Omni -- 30 studentz, 15 mentorz, and 18 other adultz. Also, the LuNaTeChS, Team 316, also are staying at the Omni, and will have between 15 and 20 people total.

I don't know where your coach got his information, but the official booking agent for the FIRST Championship Event is THS, and they have TONS of Quad rooms (Double/Double) still available -- 216 at the Hyatt Regency, 84 at the Marriott Marquis, 358 at the Sheraton, 527 at the Hilton, 7 at the Super 8, 15 at the Courtyard, and 110 at the Fairfield.

I was in Atlanta for a youth gathering this past summer. The gathering hosted 45,000 people (mostly high school age youth) over two weeks (22-23,000 oer week). I learned that their MARTA system (metro, subway, underground train, whatever you want to call it) is pretty good and has two stops at the dome and you can get pretty close to anywhere in the city via this system.

I spent most of my time at that hotel because we made some new friends who were staying there (it is a very sweet hotel...it has the largest atrium in the world). However, we weren't staying there. My youth group stayed about 5 MARTA stops north of the Marriott Marquis (I have no clue how far it was without relating it to the marta, cause that is how we got there) at the Hampton Inn. I believe my room had one of the most beautiful views of the city, only bested by another room our group had. I will try to upload th pics of the views when I get a chance.

I went this summer too!! My hotel was 5 stops above the big station, the Marriot Suites ( i think that's what they're called) but they're kind of far away. The Marquis is NICE, like big fountain in the front-nice! But its a bit of a walk, since FIRST isn't providing tranportation (the gathering gave us MARTA tickets for the week) It will be maybe a 10 minute walk, max, unless you walk really slow. Atlanta is gonna be AWESOME!

well... we can hook up w/ mine (if i can get to your hotel) and another friend of mine also has GCN... we can EASILY!!! get a 16 player race going =D (2 on each cart) i have a 4 way switch... all you need is a RF adapater for the GCN... (you can use one from the N64 or NES or SNES if you still have them (they use the same port)) also SSMB i think is also LAN enabled or am i wrong??? and what about Fzero???

Yes, I believe that the Aztechs are staying at the Embassy Suites.

I have an Xbox, Halo, and two controlers (I might try to see if any of my friends want to loan me a controller) I think I'll probably bring it. I hope the TVs allow consoles to be hooked up to them, though. I've seen a couple hotels that have a Nintendo 64 hooked up already that you've gotta pay to play, and no exposed ports.

Oh boy, I heard about a Double Dash LAN Party at the Omni, count me in! Problem is somebody needs to bring a network hub with network cables. I can bring my GameCube (with DD of course), and two working controllers (I have four, but two of them have busted up joysticks). I need to remind myself to purchase a broadband adapter before Team PINK leaves to Nationals.

As far as I know, F-Zero GX and Super Smash Brothers Melee do not have LAN capabilities. It is a shame F-Zero is not LAN compatible since a Grand Prix Race has thirty racers. That would have been a noble effort if we could be able to do that.

ColecoVision was an early video game machine for the home, along with the various Atari machines. Home video games exploded in the early 1980's.

They are looking to put additional restaurant staff on early in the morning to accomodate all us FIRSTers so we can over to the Dome bright and early.

Breakfast will be served buffet-style with a variety of foods offered - cereal, pancakes, yogurt, grits and sausage were among the foods mentioned.

Internet access is available in each room but there is a charge - $9.95/day.

They welcome us to use their tables, chairs and sofas in the Atrium/lobby area, but since all rooms open onto it we have been asked to be courteous about keeping noise levels down.

I will also be bringing a lot of cat5, but im also planning on crimping my own cables onsite so there isnt too much wasted cable.(depends on room, maybe i'll bring a few 50 feet cables and some couplers) We'll probably have all 8 controllors too. lol, Broward county prides itself (we dont know why, we think its a bad thing...) on being the "third largest school distrcit in the country". I think there have been incidents mainly in Orlando of other schools in the county (and not robotics teams), getting injured in pools or whatnot. Broward County's so afriad of getting sued, that pretty much anytime there is a CHANCE of liability and injury, it's not allowed.

Prime example: We were testing out the new golf cart that our magnet coordinator bought on campus. lol, Broward county prides itself (we dont know why, we think its a bad thing...) on being the "third largest school distrcit in the country". I think there have been incidents mainly in Orlando of other schools in the county (and not robotics teams), getting injured in pools or whatnot. Broward County's so afriad of getting sued, that pretty much anytime there is a CHANCE of liability and injury, it's not allowed.

Prime example: We were testing out the new golf cart that our magnet coordinator bought on campus. That's going a bit "overboard" don't you think. By this age, if you can't swim, your old enough to know that you can't swim, and don't, although I think it would be hard to drown in a pool that’s probably no deeper than 5ft. I think they should bring there bathing suits and enjoy the warmer weather. I'm one to follow the rules, don't get me wrong, but I’m also one to stand up and say to the people in charge, "That is one stupid rule". ) Ok, I’m done rambling.

My team (#1086-PIRATES!!!)is staying at the Marriot Marquis (though only 18 of our team are going to nationals) I heard something about a halo/xbox competition...and I just wanted to let you all know that this girl is going to beat you all! If you let me cheat that is. haha. Has someone made up a list for the Marquis?? If you have, would you post it? I would love to know who else is staying with us! Also, are there any official parties other than the wrap party on friday?

There are no other official parties at Atlanta except the wrap up party at the Olympic Park. Also, can you make your location field in your profile smaller? It's hard to read with a small computer resolution. Thanks.

Cots? Bah, that's not a robotics "come prepared" solution. My room always has the two standard beds in the hotel room, and i bring two air mattresses. You really dont realize how much you appreciate the hotel cleaning staff till they've made your air mattress (sheets, blanket, pillow, etc.). It was really funny.

Well there is a Holiday Inn Downtown, that is a FIRST hotel and truly in downtown Atlanta @ 101 Andrew Young International Blvd. And then there is the Holiday Inn Midtown that is 3 miles from downtown Atlanta that is @ 1810 Howell Mill Rd.

Anyone have an idea as to who is actually staying where?
