is it legal for someone's Robot to be hanging or touching or supporting themsleves off the ground via the horizonal bar but also be touching or supporting themselves via the vertical bar at the same time, is it legal to have contact with ethier or both vertical bars at the end of the match? most importantly is it legal to support yourself by them and score?

Sorry for the redundency but i just want make it clear :)

See definitions of "SUPPORTED" and "HANGING" - The robot has to be supported by the horizontal bar. If it would fall off the horizontal bar if the vertical bar was not there, then you do not get points. If it's incedental contact, though, you are alright.

hmmm, actually that makes me think... just for arguements sake, if it is illegal to, say hoist yourself up utilising the vertical bars.... i only say this because last year any forceful contact with the vertical components of the ramp was deemed illegal.... i wonder if that is true with this year?

from what i read, grabbing the vertical bars was illegal. I may be wrong though, because i don't have the rules in front of me right now.

"Attaching" to the vertical bars is illegal, as per the Tournament Rules section of the manual. What the definition of "attaching" is, of course, remains open to some interpretation.

Rule T04

Well I dont know how you could use the verticle bars to climb up without attaching yourself to them, or bracing against them both, which would be complicated if you wanted to climb up. But the definiton says you must be directly supported by the horizontal bar.
HANGING – A ROBOT is considered HANGING from the Pull-Up Bar if it is directly SUPPORTED by the
horizontal bar and is not touching the carpet, platforms, or goals.

SUPPORTED – If the “supporting object” is removed, the ball would not remain SCORED or CAPPED
and/or the ROBOT would not remain HANGING.

So in other words, if you take away the horizontal bar, would you fall? If you would, then it will score.
