Were the IR recievers supposed to come in the kit pre-built, because our team is only finding the stuff to build the becon and not the sensors(either built or to be built)

This year they are making us build everything (personally I think they are just being lazy:rolleyes:). At least they come with instructions on how to build it.

There is nothing to build for the IR receivers. They are a little black three pin component a little bigger than an LED. Pin 1 goes to a digital input, Pin 2 is ground and pin 3 goes to +5v. You could solder it to a PWM cable and plug it into a digital in. This is the easy part.

Writing your own code to use this signal is the tough part :D

A word description is good, but are there schematic or wiring diagrams posted anywhere? There was a schematic and a physical layout for the beacon, and I'm looking for something similar for the receiver units.

Just look up the datasheet for the sensor. I beleive there is a link on http://kevin.org/frc/faq.html The pins will be labelled there. The manufacturer actually recommends using a capacitor for extra filtering (see their schematic). I think the capacitors in the kit are the right ones.
