Hey guys! We need a creative fundraising idea. We have done all the traditional car washes, bake sales, yard sales, and basket bingo (Thanks Cybersonics). We were considering doing something like a mystery dinner theatre. We were wondering if any other teams had attempted something like this or have other creative ideas? We live in a very economically deprived area and are desperate to raise enough money to attend nationals.

Thanks!

Here's an odd one that helped our team out in tough times.

Also, if you search on the forums for 'fundraisers', a lot of ideas come up. Even though a lot are bake sales, car washes, etc., some have some cute gems that may help break your team from their fundraising mold.

Best of luck.

/edit: here's a couple of different, more unique FIRST fundraisers, and two threads with some good tips.

note about the LAN party...we tried this and got shut down by the school. so make sure u get the okay if ur doing it at the school. also our team sells these small blinking lights (size of a nickel) that flash our school colors. two ideas we are considering are a murder mystery dinner and a parents nightout babysitting thing. good luck to all.

Okay, obviously many schools can't do raffles to this extreme, but many still do raffles on smaller scales. Find out first what your school's policy is on this first, I found out that we are not allowed to do raffles or auctions because it is considered a type of gambling.

All the teams in Oregon cannot do a Raffle if they are school affiliated is what I have heard. So alot of fundraisers are not available to us, and everyone has to be approved before we can do it.

Here is a creative idea. Pick a smartest person on your team and send him/her to "who wants to be a millionaire". I bet you could win at least few hundred bucks :)
p.s. just an idea

(We did this for Model UN last year when we went to Nationals... Based on its success, I think my team will do it for robotics this year since we're only allowed to have one fundraiser)

Have a coffee/cafe mocha/hot chocolate sale before school starts. In colder states like Michigan, students and teachers will especially appreciate a nice, warm drink topped off with marshmallows and whipped cream with a biscotti on the side...

Wow... I'm thirsty now :p
