has anyone thought about spiking the yellow balls in the goals so that they are really hard to remove? would you think that a robot would need to be able to counter this?

:c)

we are giving serious consideration to the amount of lift our 2X manipulator will have, incase we need to, er.....ummmmmmm?

extract the 2X ball from the goal?

We be callin' that the "SupaCap." ;)
(Due to the fact that it's stronger than a normal cap)

I don't think there's a way to stop it though unless you either get there first, or you have a REALLY strong arm. The ball is nearly impossible for a HUMAN to get out after it's been SuperCapped.

We do not intend to "spike" the 2x ball for fear we may damage the goals which could lead to a disqualification. We have discussed the idea and counter methods. The move seems to lack GP in my book.

Maybe a gentle tap or two to push it into the goal so it would be harder to get out.

But not a violent spike or very aggresive push downward - that could break the goals.

spiking a 2X ball in your own goal should be ok - you can still put balls on top of it and the multiplyer still counts - you are just trying to make sure it stays there

spiking a ball in your opponents goal is a little more, ummm devious

but if you push it down far enough to get stuck they can still toss balls ontop of it, so they can still score.

I think getting the third 2X and playing keepaway with it will be a more useful defense stateejury.

Not true, in order for balls to be scored, they must only be supported by the goal or other scored balls. this was a topic of discussion on the 4x, 8x, mult. thread.
SCORED – A SMALL ball is SCORED when it is contained within a goal or SUPPORTED only by the goal
and/or other SCORED SMALL balls. A ball is not considered SCORED if it is touching a ROBOT of that
alliance or is SUPPORTED by a structural part of the field

i am looking in the Q&A for the post where it states you can score balls by having them rest on top of the multiplier ball.

it seems the Q&A site is down for a little while as of now, i will post the subject when i can access the site again.

the Q&A site is either swamped right now or down, but Im certain someone asked if balls on top of the 2X cap count as being multiplied, and the anwer was yes, all balls in the goal get double points, whether they are above the 2X ball or below it.

I would quote the Q&A site if I could, but its not responding at the moment.

It seems like a good defensive strategy, but I think it lacks a bit of 'gracious professionalism" :yikes:

its all part of the game. Cheating lacks GP, not finding a good LEGAL strategy.

I believe that this is a legitimate strategy. Our 2x ball remover is being designed with this strategy in mind, and I don't see it as any more ungraciously unprofessional than any other legal defensive strategy. As long as it does not involve rigging matches or directly cheating, I say it's valid, and FIRST is the only judge who can say that it's not. If they believe that it is not in the spirit of the game or that it is detrimental to the goals, it will be outlawed. Until then, I say pack that multiplier tight. Just be careful and remember to have fun.

If you push the 2x ball down, the small balls are difficult to score on top because the poles get spread out and allow them to leak out much more easily. Try it and you will see what I mean. You may get a few on top, but not many.

adding to what raul said... when you have the 2x ball down all the way of a goal.. it does spread out and its hard to get 5 points balls inside the goal... the most problem that i have seen is even though you can make a perfect arc and get the ball in... once the 5 point ball bounces on 2x ball ... it comes out...

I'm just trying to figure out when:
"clever defensive stategy" suddenly became synonymous with "lacking GP".

simple, when you do it, its clever defense

when your opponent does it, ungracious anti-professionalistic! :)
