Question on Pneumatic Cylinders

I don't think this question has been asked yet on this forum, but if it has, please pardon my ignorance and point me to the correct thread. Our current design incorporates two 1/2" bore cylinders that we discovered among our other cylinders. Does anyone know if these were considered legal parts from a previous year (and therefore going through the 2004 Part Use Flowchart) making them legal parts this year?

Yes they are legal, if you bought them from the supplied manufacturer (Bimba), and they are exactly the same as the models you could currently buy.

Well looking at the robot rules, it says you may use air cylinders from anywhere as long as they are identical to ones on the Custom Cylinder Order Form. Immediately after that, it says you may use previous year's KIT cylinders. I don't ever recall getting 1/2" kit cylinders, but it seems that's the question you need the answer to. So I guess you need to check through the archived documents.

well I've got those 1/2 cylenders, and I got them in last years kit, so I'd say is legal. they are bimba, but I only had one, and had to order another one for this year.

Not to nitpick, but I've been looking at some archived documents and back to 2002, the only KIT cylinder has been 1 1/2" (1.5") bore and 8" stroke. you can't even order a 1/2" (.5") bore cylinder using the cylinder order form. In 2000, we had to use odd metric SMC pneumatic cylinders that might've been that small. I can't get the list of what was included in the kit from 2000 or 2001, so I'm not sure. If your team wasn't around in 2001 or before, it's safe to say those cylinders are illegal.

Are you shure that those cylenders arnt 3/4" bore, those have been kit cylenders in the past. seems like they were nearly 8" stroke or more also. But to my knowlage an 1/2" bore cylender has never been in the kit, and due to the fact that they cant be ordered from the custom cylender order form, I would say they are not legeal, however the only difference in the 1/2" you have and an 3/4" is a bit of weight and a bit of air usage, but you also get more strength from them. Id say work with the 3/4" that you can get for free.
