Bumpers?
Team #991's Uncomfortable Hunk of Metal is a good argument for bumpers for the rest of you. You don't want to mess with this! We enjoy altercations in the arena. The scratches and dings make our tough robot look mean! :D http://www.brophyrobotics.com
Team 25 will be using diamond plate bumpers similar to those used last year.
I don't think that would qualify as a bumper. Diamond plate is not soft.
Sorry, then, it will be Diamond Plate that does not reach outside the permitted robot specifications, and thus, not bumpers. (But they're really just bumpers.)

soft, external bumpers would interfere with our autonomous mode.

every bot will have bumpers - the real question is: are your bumpers something you designed to BE bumpers, or is something gonna end up filling that function that you didnt intend to?
A. your frame
B. your wheels! (OUCH!)
C. your arm
D. your ball collection mechanism
E. your Robot Controller
F. your battery! (if your bot tips over, whats gonna get bashed on your soft underbelly?????)

E. your Robot Controller We did that last year in testing (by accident of course). We didn't realize that the radio cable plug was sticking out in front of the robot a little and we drive right into a pole right on that plug. (Out of a 36" wide frame, going into a 4" diameter round pole, what are the chances you'd hit the 1.5" wide plug sticking out!?!?) Anyway, it broke off our radio port kind of. It still worked but we were skeptical. Luckily my brother is an electronics expert and he was able to open it up and install a new port.
