Is there a way to give reputation for PMs that you have been sent? Because I think that there are times when you receive a PM from someone and you want to give them rep but you cant. I know that you can spotlight something from a PM, so I am thinking that maybe this won't require a large hack ...
Does anyone else think that this would be a good feature to add ??
not really. reputation is intended to be a reward for contributing something to the whole community. A Private Message is just that, private - it only benefits the people who recieve them. if you want to tell someone who sent you a PM that you approve, well, just send them a PM right back.

You can't spotlight stuff from PM's ..
I think adding reputation to PM's will be just as hard as adding it to anything that's not a post.

Why do I get the feeling that the Rep points are trying to be taken advantage of.
I mean originally the Rep points were created so that a member of CD's community can recieve them if they offered advice or help that everyone registered to benefit from.
Now requests are being made for rep points for pics / rep points for pm's what will be next.
Was creating these reputation points such a good idea. cause apparently I have seen a lot of decent posts that offer helpful advice for all to use and not many people benefiting from it. Unless i'm overlooking something. I ask this b/c if they were awarded the way they should be then why are members looking for different ways to have them awarded.

Not really... I always thought the reputation system was to help inexperienced or new users know whose ideas and comments can be trusted. Those of us who have been around for years pretty much know everyone, but new people don't have that luxury.

I don't understand, could you post some examples?

I think the reputation system is a great tool. If I think of a way to make it better, I will post it.
These forums have more than just threads and posts. They also have pictures, PMs, spotlights, and UFH. Rep points for spotlights and UFH has already been discussed and dealt with (I think). We are just trying to give users the option to rate others as much as they can.
Conduct an experiment for me. Go to the members page and sort them by Rep. Is there anyone in the top 10 that you think users shouldn't pay attention to (except that Andy Baker guy... we all know he rigged the voting ;-)? How about in the top 20? Top 30?
My point is that the rep system is working. It's a good thing. So why not try to make it even better?
