By the way, how do you get the hook over the bar?

I would personally give it a nice coat of shellac or polyurethane. I wouldn't want to see beautiful woodgrain like that covered with paint. :)

actually we are thinking about bringing a blow torch to it to get that cool "smoked" effect

Notice the test leads inside for super efficient motor usage

AWWWW my baby i am so pround ... soo many tirless hours so much time... and to finally see it hanging in all its glory. Boy it's gonna be JUST like that in competition. NATIONALS HERE WE COME!!!!! :p

There are compression springs in the telescoping part and when the winch(FPM) lets lose, it goes up, then u pull it back down once again to lift up. We actually are thinking of staining the wood, maybe a cherry color? What do you think?

Why not go with mahogany and the 'furniture' look...
but seriously, if that's even possible, i think cherry red is good
I myself would have gone with a darker shade of it, though.

I wouldn't want to face THAT bad boy in competition...
