For all of you who enjoyed the Wildstang teaser videos from 2001 & 2002, we have another. This year's video was done by the same talented person as the previous years. Many thanks to Ryan for putting it all together. I hope you enjoy the video and our robot. Feel free to ask questions about the robot or video.

Here it is, hopefully our server can handle the load.

Excellent job on the video. :) It has good editing with footage of your robot in testing phases, last years at competition, your team, and your awards. Instead of possibly burdening your server I right clicked and "saved as". I downloaded the high quality 23mb version over a lan connected to a broadband cable modem, took about 40 seconds.

Very very slick. I love the way that you lower and raise your swerve modules. You make it look effortless getting on top of the platform. There wasnt much of a pause at all for transition between the two surfaces.

Great job on the video and the bot!

Hope to see you guys in Atlanta

Sheesh...are you trying to scare us all now? Let me tell you...you're definitely doing a good job at that. :D

Unless we make it to Atlanta, 818 won't be competing against your robot. Still, I'm considering going to the GLR just to see Wildstang in action... :)

O.K. I now have two goals for my team this year:
1. Make it to the Championship
2. Draft 111

Beautiful machine, folks! =-]

Clarke told me about it at the team party what you guys could do after he met with you guys at VCU. All I could say is, while hearing the description, I was in utter aw. I heard everything you guys can do, and the technology, I'm just amazed. Clarke and I talked about it on the way home. It's amazing. Big props.

Wildstang you guys are as assume as ever, I was just wondering how many air storage tanks you have on your robot? From the video it looked as if you had more than the allowed two, rule 5.2.9

Dose your robot use a Swerve drive this year?

Great bot again this year.

:ahh: :ahh: :ahh: :ahh: :ahh:

That's all I got from that video.

Nobody has gone over the platform that smooth yet.

Good job again. Hopefully we will get a chance to play with you again this year in ATL. I wouldn't mind an "encore".

During competition we will only use two. For the filming of the video we added two more so we could get the robot to raise & lower more times back-to-back before we ran out of air. I was actually wondering how long it would take for someone to see the four tanks in the video and say something about it here. It was quicker than I thought it would be.

Dose your robot use a Swerve drive this year?
Yes.

So after i stopped having convulsions I have to say that after last year I didn't think you could out do that, well....

WOW!!!!!!!!

I really like the two robots goin up and down the steps is that animated or is that actually two robots (I couldn't really tell my vision started to go out then) :D

I thought our bot went level over the steps and did it quick with our gurney system but wow this is just amazing with the crab drive and everything

Yes, we put two extra tanks on for the video so we could continuously go up and down without running out of air so quickly. The competition version will not be able to go up and down that many times in a row - but that was just for show - no need to act like a low-rider in a match.

Yes, it does swerve drive as well.

Thanks for all the positive comments. Look forward to some matches with all the other great robots out there. Even some of the rookie robots I saw in person at VCU were very impressive.

Wildstangs,

Sweet machine! I love seeing that bot bounce up and down. But, more importantly, I see that you guys have once again built a great machine to play the game.

Here are my questions:
1) Any herding capabilities?
2) How do you "store" the 2x ball on top of the machine?
3) What actuator(s) are you using for climbing up the bar?

Looking forward to seeing you guys at GLR this Thursday. I'll make sure to stop by. Good luck this season!

PS - Awesome video :D

Wow! Gotta love the choice of music in the background! I hope we're in the same division at nats....looks like you guys could use a ball herding alliance! :D

Amazing vid!

The end is just scary. What if there really were two of them? :ahh: Is that an editing trick or your practice bot?

It doesnt even look like your wheels are turning but the handling is so smooth. Are you using the CIM motors to drive the (rear) wheels this year?

I love how your "hanging" arm grabs a ball. Didn't your robot have enough capability without adding "stores two 2X balls" to the list?

Can't wait to see it at Nats

I knew there was more to that robot than you could tell from that picture...

Simply Amazing!!

I noticed the four tanks right away, but I'm too slow when it comes to posting here.

Does the "pie-pan" arm pick up the second ball? Or can that be used to hold a THIRD ball :ahh:

Can't wait to see it in action in Evanston.

I am sooo not worthy...an amazing piece of work, as usual. Will you be at the UCF Florida Regional? Also, still using the whole idea of dual PICs for nav? How long did this take you to build? (I know 6 weeks...I mean how long to plan, how many hours at shop, how much practice time, etc) This is just plain amazing. Nice music, too.

How the #!$# did you acquire the funding for this technological marvel. We have a huge problem with fundraising at 408...might not even do FIRST next yr due to cost+lack of sponsors :( Oh well, I'll be in college and mentoring another team by then...

Wow again...I've watched that video 10+ times and still can't get over the robot. The music is kind of addicting too. Wow, I've got to show my team that? And say let build something like that next year...I love our robot but wow.

Anyway, can I borrow your robot for a day or at least a competition? Please :D . What are you doing April 1-3? I promise I'll give in back and I'll thank you in advance for machining all the parts on our new robot. I love that new rule.

Great video of a great robot - do you have any close-up photos of the gearboxes themselves? I watched the video over and over again, and for the life of me I couldn't see how the swerve functionality was implemented.

Here are my questions:
1) Any herding capabilities?
2) How do you "store" the 2x ball on top of the machine?
1) At this point, other than pushing, not really.
2) There is no real storage on the top of the bot. I think you're refering to the section of the video that has the ball on top of the robot. That was just the small arm holding it there.
Are you using the CIM motors to drive the (rear) wheels this year?
Yes
Does the "pie-pan" arm pick up the second ball?
You mean the frying pan arm? :) Yes, it does.
do you have any close-up photos of the gearboxes themselves? I watched the video over and over again, and for the life of me I couldn't see how the swerve functionality was implemented.
The crab (swerve) modules are almost identical to last year's. The drill motors drive and the globe motor steers. Sorry, I don't really have a good picture of one.

i blessed to be able to be picked by you guys last year at MR and i realized how amazing your robots are....i thought you couldn't do any better though. Specificall this year I was wondering if your robot would still have swerve and would just ignore the bar.

I was wrong.

This is amazing. Your team is truly one of the greats in FIRST, if not the greatest. I really hope you win it again this year.

I am just wondering (if you'll tell us) what your autonomous modes will be?

Team 33 and 111 would be a crazy impressive alliance. I was at VCU to see team 33's amazing robot win.

I love the drive system. I have seen one that goes up and down to get on the platform like yours...but is uses 3 wheels and each goes up seperatly. It is almost as sweet as that, but it isn't swerve drive. I believe it is team 225, but I could be wrong.

It is team 225, and the pneumatics they use are quite nice, but they have the problem that the robot was designed for carpet driving and when they get on the platform they have no traction, causing them to skate all over the place, unable to get in position. I think they were able to hang once at VCU, but if that was due to mastering the sliding technique or because the platform lost its slickness, I am not sure... In any case, you have little to fear from them, team 111, since their suction-cup method of grabbing the 2X mult. has far too weak of a hold on the ball for a competition, and your system of being able to hold two 2X balls, which is just genius, is infinitely superior.

Oh, by the way, that robot makes ours look so humble... I'll have to see it in person at nats. I also live in fear of team 33 and 111 being united (what is up with both of those team numbers being the product of two primes, namely 3 and 11 for team 33 and 3 and 37 for team 111? What are the odds of that? Let's see, anyone know how to compute Riemann zeta functions? That kind of math is above my head...)

Here it is, hopefully our server can handle the load.
Well, so far so good. We've pushed ~15GB of data in the past 3 days and had ~3000 requests for the videos (it would take a little more work to figure out how many of those requests actually completed successfully and I dont' have the time). We'll be competing at GLR this weekend and won't be around to monitor the traffic & transfer quota, so I removed access to the two large files. You can still get the low quality version at:

Low Quality (6 MB): http://www2.wildstang.org/2004/video/WS2004encore_v2_low.wmv

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone. We're all happy that you like the video and our robot. Stop by our pits for a closer look & to talk with us.
