What are the rules for practice rounds. Some have told me I can go in the field during the matches. I have also noticed that I can grab balls from the field so that I can practice my shooting. But what are the rules if any.

In the interest of safety, competitors may not enter the playing field while robots are enabled... this only makes sense.

In Manchester, when robots were not able to herd balls, field attendants did roll any balls that they could reach into the corrals to aid human player practice. If you ask at your regional, I'm sure they would be willing to do the same.

Hope that helped.

I haven't seen any difference in practice from last year, yes, if your robot breaks or tips you can go and correct it as long as it is safe to do to, ie other robots stopped. Most teams will try to stop if you are quickly fixing your robot or untipping it. Just be GP about it. Others are trying to practice too but as long as you don't get in their way too much, they will try to give you room but you can't gurantee anything, and stay safe about it, ie don't jump in front of a moving robot. It is alright. I also saw people feeding the HP balls. The HP's need practice too, so if you are being safe and respecting the others teams you can feed balls to the HP.

How are the practice rounds divided? In years past, it was 10 minutes free for all. Last year it was 2 approximately 5 minute "matches". This year I heard something about 1:20 minute matches? Can someone explain how they work?

Joe,

At BAE what happend was:

Standard Two Minute Match w/Auto
Three Minute Reset
Standard Two Minute Match w/Auto
Reset

New Teams come out to pratice

It come out to roughly 10 minutes.

as for the 1:20 thing, the software at BAE wasn't exactly working correctly during pratice rounds so Instead of 2:00min matches that started the final minute at 60sec

We had 1:20 matches that went like this

1:02, 1:01, 1:00, 99, 98, 97

I hope this makes sense I kinda jumped around a bit.

ya aat BAE they had to set it up with 120 seconds instead of 2:00... its a lor harder IMO to pay attention... like after the first day you had to remeber at 75 seconds is when the balls dropped instead of 1:15... just easier with the minute IMO...

the practice rounds went great IMO the way they were set up... with 2 matches split w/ a quick reset... got more practice that way... and thx to all the refs & volentures who gave us HP's balls during the practice rounds =D
