The Miracle Workers have created a contest to amuse and entertain all the FIRST-a-holics out there. All you have to do is to surf on over to our website (www.MOE365.org), click on the Where is Gizmoe link, and enter your guess.

Why should you do this, you ask? For the prizes, of course! Each daily winner receives two custom-designed limited-edition MOE buttons available ONLY to the contest winners. Not even our own team members will have one of these! And, if the winner picks up their buttons at the 365 pit area at either the Philadelphia Regional or the Championship Event, they also receive a pair of MOEstix (which, unfortunately, we had to retire this year due to changes in the rules at the events).

You want more? OK. There will be a GRAND PRIZE winner, to be randomly selected from among all daily prize winners. What is the GRAND PRIZE, you ask? Good Question! We don't know yet. But I promise it will be better than buttons and MOEstix.

Here's the rules of the contest: (most of these are also posted on the website)
* Only one entry per person per day
* A new contest begins every day, at 12:00:01 EST
* You must provide both the name and the location of where GIZMoe is today (e.g. The Space Needle, Seattle, WA). Entering only the name or the location is not sufficient.
* No purchase necessary to win
* Odds of winning is determined by the number of correct entries
* The winning entry is chosen from the list of all correct entries
* Only one prize will be awarded per day
* You must provide a valid email address
* Team 365 studentz, mentorz, boosterz, parentz, sisterz, brotherz, and widowz are not eligible to win any prizes, although they are welcome to submit entries.

So, surf on over to www.MOE365.org and enter the contest! Most days, the answer will be fairly easy to discern. But some days, it will really test your visual memory. And, every day, there will be a winner. Good Luck to all!

Our Web Team told me the messages were just warning messages, and did not affect your entries. They are removing the warning message, so you should not see them any more.

b/t/w, there were 30+ entries as of 4 p.m.! Keep 'em coming! (but remember, only one entry per person per day)

Did anyone notice how the Robot picture this year is ridiculously Hi-res and against a blue photography background (a green background would be kinda pointless :) )? Yup, that is for easy Photoshopping for the "Where in the World is GizMOE?" game.

I resubmitted my entry just now since I hadn't been back here to see what the deal with the error message was...you might want to put some sort of thank you or message accepted on the screen that comes up after you submit so people like me know that our entry was received.

P.S. I love this game/idea :] :p

great minds think alike i see. back in 2001 when i was back in hs we did an inside contest for the school called where in the world is wilma (2001 Robot) and did exactly what you guys did just take a picture of the robot and place it randomly throughout all the landmarks. The prizes were digital cameras i think. the game was discontinued due to the fact that there was a lack of interest.

I wish you much luck with your game. everyone will play for the famous moe stix. not so much the buttons hehe.

Now, on to the second week of the contest! Don't forget to enter every day. You too could be a winner of a pair of limited edition MOE pins, and, if you pick up your prize at our pit at Philly or the Championship Event, a pair of coveted MOEstix!

Today's picture is not easy. But, if you've been there, you should remember it. It was the most distinctive room in the whole place. Go to www.moe365.org now!

have the number of entries stayed the same as at the beginning, or are they declining?

Bill Enslen
21-03-2004, 15:05
Joe, I'll know better tomorrow night when I get to look at the database containing the entries and determine the winners for week two. However, based on the results for week one, there was a definite drop in entries from the start of the week to the end of the week.

Six of the seven winners from week one will be picking up their prizes at the MOE 365 pit at the Championship Event, and thus will be receiving a pair of MOEstix along with their limited edition MOE buttons. We've still got enough MOEstix left for another few weeks of winners.

We're currently finalizing the design of the buttons for the prize winners, and I can guarantee you that only prize winners will be receiving these limited edition collectible/tradeable buttons.

And remember, there will be a GRAND PRIZE WINNER, with an even more valuable MOE prize. The winner's name will be drawn from all of the daily prize winners at the end of the contest, probably on or about March 10.

So, for those of you who haven't yet won, there's still plenty of time to be a winner. Go to www.moe365.org and click on the Where is GizMOE link. Remember to list the place name and the location name. For example, The Space Needle, Seattle Washington. You must have both correct to be a winner.

Even if you have won once, you can win again and thus increase your chances for the Grand Prize, and have more unique buttons to trade!

Good luck to all!

Sorry about the problems with the picture today. We loaded a new week's worth of pictures last night, and like downloading autonomous code to the robot, sometimes things don't go right and you don't find out until the robot is on the field. We'll correct the problem as soon as we can locate our web guru. He's in an after-school activity and can't be reached.

Sorry it took so long to correct the problems, but we had to wait until a meeting night to fix the problems. Somehow, all of this week's picture files were corrupted.

The good news is, we're now back in operation with a new set of pictures, so drop on by www.moe365.org and submit your answers!

Bill Enslen

We've now entered the LAST WEEK of the Where is GizMOE contest, and we're going to kick it up a notch. BAM!

GizMOE has been seen around the world at some famous and some not-so-famous landmarks. But for the LAST WEEK of the contest, GizMOE will travel only within the good ol' US of A on his Farewell (to the contest, hope to have a) Victory (in Atlanta) Tour. BAM!

Every Day This Week, GizMOE will be pictured at a location within the continental boundaries of the USA which has some kind of a connection to FIRST. Your task is to identify the connection to FIRST, along with the usual identification of the place and location of where GizMOE happens to be that day.

For example, if GizMOE were pictured in front of the San Diego Zoo, the correct place and location would be San Diego Zoo, San Diego, CA; and the correct connection to FIRST would be San Diego hosted a Regional Competition this year.

So, browse on over to www.moe365.org and play the game!

Oh, I almost forgot. I promised to reveal the GRAND PRIZE today. OK, here it is:

The GRAND PRIZE is a MOE Shirt.

What's that? I promised it would be unique, and a number of people already have traded for MOE shirts?

OK, you're right. How about a MOE Bandana?

What? Still not unique enough? OK, OK. I've got a soft heart.

The GRAND PRIZE will be ...

a MOE Shirt, a MOE Bandana, AND a MOE Wobblie !!!

What's a MOE Wobblie?

You must not have been to the New Jersey or the Philadelphia Regionals.

You DO know about MOEstix, right? Our oh-so-obnoxiously-loud clapping stick noisemakers that were banned by new FIRST rules this year?

I thought so.

Well, MOE Wobblies are our replacement for MOEstix as our obnoxious-but-still-within-the-rules noise makers. You can actually sit right next to them and not need ear plugs, but if you're across the stadium from the MOE Folks, you'll definitely notice them!

And YOU, as our GRAND PRIZE WINNER (should your name be drawn from the hat containing the name of every daily prize winner painstakingly written on individual pieces of paper -- one name per piece of paper -- and folded ever-so-carefully into smaller and smaller pieces until they cannot be folded any smaller, and then shaken, not stirred, before being placed in an empty mayonnaise jar on Funk and Wagnall's doorstep for 365 seconds <invisible hand slaps the writer on the face> ...), will be the only person outside of the MOE Team who will have a MOE Wobblie.

How's that for a GRAND PRIZE?

Well, what are you waiting for??? Go to www.moe365.org and enter today. Tomorrow may be too late!

(contest ends 8:30 p.m.Monday, April 12. no purchase necessary to win. all rights reserved)

Where will GizMOE end his tour?

Congratulations to all of our fourth week winners, who will be notified individually by e-mail.

The fifth week and final week of the contest is now well under way! Don't forget to enter every day. Bill Enslen
11-04-2004, 00:45
For his final week, GizMOE chose to make a special tour of the USA, and each stop would have some connection to FIRST. So, how have you done so far guessing where GizMOE was?

On Tuesday. GizMOE was placed high atop the Great Dome at MIT in Cambridge Massachusetts, where Woodie Flowers is a professor.

On Wednesday, GizMOE travelled up the road to Manchester NH, where he was pictured in front of the Steam Engine inside of Dean Kamen's house.

On Thursday, GizMOE borrowed Dean's helicopter so he could hang from the Gargoyles high atop the Chrysler Building in New York City, home to the New York City Regional. He chose the Chrysler building partly because he thought it would be neat to hang from the Gargoyles, but also because the Chrysler Corporation (more properly, now, Daimler Chrysler) is a sponsor to a number of FIRST teams.

If you got all three of those correct, and were following the path that GizMOE took across the country, you could have guessed at where GizMOE was hanging on Friday. He took a short drive down I-95 to hang on top of the New Jersey Capitol Building in Trenton, NJ, the new home of the Johnson & Johnson New Jersey Regional Competition.

Is there a pattern here? Hmm ...

Yesterday (Saturday), GizMOE paused at the remains of Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, PA, which hosts GizMOE's favorite Regional Event, the Philadelphia Allliance Regional Competition.

I wonder where GizMOE is headed??? Only two days left until the contest ends.

Head on over to www.moe365.org and see if you can figure out where he is today!

The winner of the GRAND PRIZE!

of course,

a MOE Shirt, a MOE Bandana, and a MOE Wobblie!!!

And so, without any further ado ..

and with all the ruffles, flourishes, and blaring of trumpets that an event of this magnitude deserves ...

The winner of the Grand Prize ...

is ...

Greg Ross, Team 330

Congratulations, Greg! You can pick up your grand prize at 3:30 p.m. from the sea of MOE green T-shirts in the stands in front of the Einstein Championship field in the Georgia Dome. Just ask anyone in a MOE shirt where I am, and I'll have your prize then.

FINALLY! I guess I was the only one who submitted one that day. ;p

Actually, this last week of the contest, we had a significant increase in the number of people submitting answers to the game, and you were not the only one who submitted an answer that day. Most of the answers submitted were correct, although I was really puzzled as to why everyone didn't get the correct answer on the last day. I thought that would be intuitively obvious.

Also, in case anyone was wondering, the correct answers each day were numbered from 1 to n, and a random number generator (on a TI-83) was used to pick the daily winner. To select the Grand Prize winner, I reverted to the old-fashioned method of writing each daily winner's name on a piece of paper, folding each piece of paper very small, putting them all into a hat, shaking them, and getting a disinterested party (my daughter) to pick the winner. I was as surprised as the rest of you that the winner came from the last week's daily winners.

Anyway, I hope everyone had fun playing the game.

If you're near the scoring table at the Galileo field this week, see if you can catch my attention. I'd love to meet you all!

Brave man - wearing a MOE shirt to the gym! Having experience over the past five years with the same basic jersey, that probably got pretty hot also.

It's easy wearing the green when you are in a large group or at a FIRST event. It's much more difficult wearing it in "public."

Did you get the hang of the MOE Wobbly? It takes a bit of practice to get the proper *annoying* sound going well.

Congratulations again on your GRAND PRIZE! Enjoy.

Yeah the shirt's warm, but not too much so. It was a little scratchy though. I'm hoping it will soften up a little in the wash.

I think I got the hang of the Wobbly. I haven't had opportunity to use it much, though.
