Recently, I have tried to install 2 different compilers, both giving me this same error on startup and when I installed them. The error is not fatal but I just wanted to know what it means. FYI this is on a Win2k sp-2 gateway laptop. The error isn't specific to this program but this is the most recent:
"16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem"
C:\ldraw027.exe
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDriv ers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
I can either hit close or ignore. I hit ignore and the program runs fine.

Is this error come up when you install the compilers, or the new parts library (ldraw027.exe)? Partsref says you can just rename/delete the ldraw027.exe.

That doesn't quite work thought, anyone know anything about Virtual Device drivers?
Oh well time to go learn LDraw ;)

No. But with more info on the errors, we could help. (Like: what errors came up with the compiler installs?)

I've narrowed it down to whent it tries to open (suprise) any drivers for virtual divices. This includes emulating other OSs such as Dos to install programs. Lego Mindstorms, the NQC compiler, and LDraw are the latest.
I have Visual Studio Vb.net installed... prehaps that replaced something?

I don't think so. I have VS 6.0 EE (VB, VC++, Visual FoxPro , and MSDN), and all the LDraw stuff works fine. Have you tried system restore to roll back your drivers? Was it just after you installed the compilers that you started getting problems? MPLAB and MCC18 work ok w/LDraw.
Is there some big windows thing you installed that would change the VXDs?
The registry refers to what you change when you run "regedit". Do you change something in there?
Can you reinstall the VXDs from the windows disk?
Anything else that we should know?
Just as a note, I also have NCQ, LDraw, MPLAB/MCC18, and Visual Studio on my computer and it works fine. Sounds like something got accidentally removed from your Windows installation. (Windows... )
