I have a few suggestions. If its a coch bus make sure u take a quarter so you can lock the bathroom. Once one person goes it turns in to a parade. Also there is enough room for atleast 5 people on the floor to sleep. (this is wicked comfortable) then the five people in a seat alone becuause of the people on the floor, the people alone in the seet can stretch out. Thats the only way most of us could sleep for longer then 20min. I know this becuase we went to FL from MA 26.5hrs and I learned a lot how to stay comfortable
Last warning dont sit next to a female... They tend to get makeup happy when your sleeping because they get "bored". She got me on the way home and i did not wake up till she was almost all done... hehe

I hope that helps. To expand on this post, I offer you all this:
http://www.itsmarta.com/howto/special/frc.htm
There is a special event pricing that the MARTA (local subway) system is offering for those who are attending the FRC Championship event in Atlanta.
What you were supposed to do, is fill out a form and pre-order the tickets by a deadline about a week ago. BUT our advisor called a customer service rep. from MARTA and they said that they will honor these prices if you just order them the day you fly in at the MARTA ticket counter at the airport.
Print a copy of that webpage for reference when asking for the tickets there though, just in case they have any problems.
Thanks for sharing this information, BUT I have to ask, why weren't we all notified of this in advance via a FIRST e-mail blast or something???

A major change for our travel plans instead of flying out of BWI to ATL, we are flying out of National to ATL via Delta. Hey, ya go where the fares are cheapest and we found one.
And by looking at this poll no one has elected to go by train or any other mode of transportation?

108's going by bus. Earlier this year, our team made a trip to Alabama for the BEST robotics regional, that was 14 hours and our odd bus driver thought going THROUGH atlanta would get us there faster. So during that trip, we hit atlanta around hour 12, so that's what we're figuring on for this trip.
Bus Law says: Do not fall asleep. [consequences: ziptied to the chair / shaving creamed head / makeup / pictures of you in compromising posistions]. I'm telling you, I've seen em all. If you wanna sleep, find a friend you trust and take shifts sleeping, the only way.

I had to sit with it on for like 15hrs.. man it sucked but it was funny at the same time becuase i took it good i did not get all pissed. i even had lip gloss on and i left it on showing them i did not care. finally took it off when i acedently licked it and it tasted so bad.. just beware of falling asleep on a long bus ride while sitting next to a girl! :D
Advantage of having a girl next to you is most of the time there a hell of a lot smaller then a guy so you have more room.

There's no way you'll stay sitting for 13 hours. After about hour 4 the coaches/mentors stop trying to stop you and you begin wandering around the bus. By hour 8, no one is in the seat they started in. By hour 10, everyone is in a different seat every 15-20 minutes. Those final 20 minutes when everyone knows they're "almost there!" is insanity.
...or so have been my observations ;)

As to the "B" word, what about the "G" word? Yay for talking about our school in the airport. Knowing us, we're going to mention the name of our school many times just to see what'll happen. Ah... The joys of going to a school that's named after some guy who has the last name of a weapon. That's always fun.
And for things to do to team members when they're sleeping... During build, we usually duct tape them to wherever they're sleeping, i.e. floor, sofa. Or you can just put nail polish on their finger-/toe-nails when they're awake. If you do, make sure you have no nail polish remover with you. ;)

Is there anyone out there that has a fear of flying. Or do you have any ideas to calm a scared teammate?

When we fly from Michigan to Califorina I was scared when the plane took off but after awhile I was fine. Tell them to take something that will keep there mind of flying. Or think about something so they won't have to worry.

If your team mate is scared of flying because of the "height" thing, he/she should be aware that being in an airplanes is NOT like looking at the ground from the roof of a tall building, at least to most people. If he/she is afraid of a crash, they should be aware that flying with commercial airlines is much safer that driving.
disclaimer: I don't have much fear of flying, except when it so turbulent that the wings on the plane bend about 10 feet and look like they might break.

My earlier post expressed my (mild) fear of flying when I see wings flexing a lot. In reality, this is not anything to worry about. Airliners currently flying never break from flight stresses.

Our team is leaving from Seattle on Tuesday, in order to go sight-seeing on wendsday, from the Sea-Tac airport. We will leave in the early AM (around 9:00, I think) and arrive in Atlanta in the afternoon. We will then fly back and arrive in Seattle around noon on Sunday.
