Last year, we made sure we made it to a Texas BBQ. What regional food(s) do we need to make sure we experience in Atlanta this year?

Mmmm... I like food.
I hear that getting a hot dog at "The Victory" is kinda cool. At least, that is what the Food Channel says.
I wonder how far away it is from the Dome?

I know there is a starbucks in the lobby of the hotel where im staying at the westin peachtree. I'll probably end up eating at whatever places are in the peachtree mall most of time.
I myself havnt actually been to Atlant but this webiste has never steered me wrong in looking for some excellent food in the past while visiting other areas around the world :p

Andy, It's actually the Varsity :) but yeah a must try while in Atlanta. It's not too far from the dome, a minute or two on MARTA.
Check out their site: http://www.thevarsity.com/.

"The Victory?" Do you perhaps mean "The Varsity?" The Varsity is awesome. They have lots of good hamburgers and hot dogs and stuff like that. MAke sure you get a frozen orange drink or a chocolate shake.

You might want to go to the hard rock cafe (like 1 block from the marriot marquis if you are staying there) and also the coca cola factory is supposed to be pretty cool...although the adults may not consider coke a meal...

The Bridgetown Grill is one of my favourites downtown (at www.bridgetowngrill.com (http://www.bridgetowngrill.com)) and as to The Varsity, I'd reccomend a chili-dog.
There are lots of good restaurants (including the Bridgetown) and generally cool places to be at Little Five Points (www.l5p.com (http://www.l5p.com)) which is about 3 miles from the Dome/Civic Center (or just one station down by MARTA).
Can't wait to see you guys here!
Hey gwross, great to meet you in LA! I was the guy who took this picture (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/pictures.php?s=&action=single&picid=7414&direction=DESC&sort=date&perrow=4&trows=3&quiet=Verbose)
The Varsity is a must while in Atlanta, not too far from GA Dome and fairly close to GATech. Waffle House is a plus as well. See y'all there!

Ah, Food Network and Alton Brown, watching him now... err... back on topic.
384 WILL be in the Underground for dinner numerous nights. We also are planning on checking out Coke for the drinks. I heard Beverly is pretty good if you want one from the international selection. ;)
mmmmmm...........foooood and COKE!!!!! The perfect thread for me! LOL is there any good coffee other than Starbucks in the CNN Centre/close to OMNI hotel? Unfortunately, there is no TIM HORTON'S

I was told "If you're going to the South they have Chick Fillet. BEST FAST FOOD CHICKEN IN THE WORLD. It is not an option, you MUST have it."
So, are there any Chick Fillets down in Atlanta?

It's actually called Chick-fil-A. Indiana has a lot of them and it's the next best thing next to beef!!

My friend said there was this chocolate bar that's really good in the States and none in Canada... It's call "Almond Joy" I think... Is there any in Atlanta?
Joe Matt

It's all over the US. You can find them in convenience stores, gas stations, and other places they sell candy bars.
As for best fast food, Chick-fil-a is ok, but Chipotle is the best. :)

Anyone mention the sweet iced tea yet? Two things are making me go down to ATL next week--Nationals (of course) and the sweet iced tea. Last time I had at least 1-2 cups of it per day (over a span of 7 days), and when I got home, I was on a sugar high for I don't know how long afterwards. Go sweet iced tea! And then there's Chick-Fil-A (best chicken ever) and Milo's is good too (although I don't know if there are any Milo's down in ATL). ::starts drooling:: Can't wait can't wait can't wait! :D

hmmm. I wonder if Georgia has any Golden Corrals. we don't have any in Jersey, but last year on my band/choir trip to Disney, we bussed down and no matter what state we were in, we ate at a Golden Corral (for all 6 days...breakfast and dinner..minus two dinners)...and the setup was the same in every one..and the food tasted exactly the same too. man...it was crazy.

What place has the best coffee? Unfortunately there's no Tim Horton's but I still need my coffee in the morning! What is better? Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts or anything else?
There always is starbucks if you dont have a problem with it :)

in my personal opinion, I think Dunk's is the best. why? well, even though krispy kreme doughnuts are good, they are A) not filling B) there is not as much of a variety there than at dunks. then when you take dunks vs. starbucks, i prefer dunk's again because A) price/volume of coffee B) when you order coffee, the guy doesnt ask you "which flavor." you get coffee flavored coffee, as black as it gets. :)

If you want to argue KK vs DD, go here, (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17597&highlight=krispy+kreme+dunkin)
There are plenty of both vendors in the Atlanta area, and as for coffee, I thin Starbucks is the best you'll find, there aren't any other specialized coffee shops.
As to Soul Food(tm), I believe there's a place on 14th street called the Country Kitchen that has good suthen food (thre are probably multiple places called the Country Kitchen in Georgia, but any would fill this niche) though I must warn you that, like The Varsity, grease and fat are probably important ingredients in everything they'd serve.

But it is the best place to get wings.
If there is a sushi restaunt near the competition site or my hotel, then I would be more than happy. As for a caffine fix, a coulple Mountain Dews in the AM has always given me the boost I need to start out the day. Even though I do tend to get a few headaches in the afternoon from fluctuating blood-sugar levels.
My dad mentioned a few places in Atlanta that he thought were pretty cool, unfortunately I can't remember the names exactly.
One is in the CNN building, its this english pub called something pub. He said if you want real English food, its good.
Then the second he mentioned is a place, I think he said its in underground Atlanta, is something down the hatch. Its like a jazz place in a big boat or something. haha.

Yeah, Evan, that'd be Dante's Down the Hatch, a restaurant themed as a pirate ship (the building is a ship) but it's not in Underground, it's on Peachtree Street (more information here (http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-1243107-dante_s_down_the_hatch_atlanta-i)). Apparently they have very good food there as well (good enough for some of my friends to be going there for dinner before Prom).
