View Full Version : College get together at Championship

Alrigthy,
Each year someone tries to plan a college people get together for Championships. Since I'm in Atlanta I thought I would help plan it for this year. The plan right now is to make arrangements with a local restaurant (to be announced soon) for Friday evening. To do this, I need to know how many people plan to come. I would like to ask that high schoolers not respond to this post. So college people, let me know who is interested.
This is for College Students and those who are college students at heart :).
If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM or IM me.
If I can get away from my team it sounds fun. You can count me in for now. My team is at regional now so I don't know their national plans for sure but I should be able to find out sometime over Easter and I can confirm for sure.

I'm in! There wouldn't happen to be any comedy clubs around, would there? Perhaps ones that do improv?

Edit:
My bad...time conflict, won't be there and neither will David.
Sorry,
D.J.
If our team goes, count me in. Hopefully you guys have something good planned...but we wouldn't want to speak of it around the hs'ers.

I'm there! Make sure to post the details...
I would hope that it is not a 21+ college get together.
Also, so that it dosn't interfere with any of the workshops....
Thems my two doughnuts.

It wont matter as long as your friends, Franklin, Grant, and Jackson are with you :p

I'm up for some partying!! err.. social...

Given I told Anne to organize it (whether or not she planned to anyway), I'll be there. Perhaps we can have a member of our group made fun of for having a crush on another member again?

Yes, I'll admit it... I Had a crush on Ken when we all went out together for the college night in 2002. j/k
 :D
Though, I seriously do not remember too much from that night somehow... (:D )
I remember the comedy club though!! Robotic stereotypes were flying around that place that night.

I believe Joe and I slept together later that night so you weren't the only one. ;) (Yes, we shared a bed)
I was specifically referring to the Comedy Club where Christine (I think it was Christine from 639) was accussed of having a crush on Pat by the comedians.

I would love to be there, and I'm sure a bunch of the other college mentors from Team 461 would be interested also. Honestly, I don't really know any of the other college mentors on other teams, so this would be great, keep us posted!

Assuming transportation is not an issue, I can probably get away from my team for a while.

I think in the past we met at 8 or 9. I would suggest meeting about the time the pits close as that usually gives people enough time to get away from their teams.

From the discussion (brief though it was) Anne and I had, I believe we'll meet at or around the arena on either Thursday or Friday night. Anywhere we go from there will be accessible via MARTA (subway). You'd need to find your own way back to your hotel however.
Matt

What about the MARTA system, surely it cant be as complicated as lets says, the Boston or New York Subway systems. Most likely everybody has a bus stop somewhere near there hotel why not decide on a place and then just go there.
Or..
We meet somewhere out side the pits after everything has been shut down for the night and take the bus in big groups to where ever we decide on going.
-Aaron
Sounds awesome, as long as my team doesnt have me chained down because of another mechanical problem then I am sure I can make it. Keep the details posted and I will see everyone in Hotlanta.
Anne Shade

The plan is for Friday evening so far. The planned location is accessible by MARTA. Some of the hotels are closer than others so some people will probably want to go from the Dome on MARTA. There is actually very little parking downtown so I would advise against driving. I will get the details out as soon as I can confirm a reservation for us. Let me know if there are any other concerns.

Is it too late to register for this? I was extremely bored last year at Houston, and I am hopping we can actually do something this year.

i'm with the lucas on this one, if it's easy for me to get and out and back to/from the omni i'll definitely come. and count krisitina (kiwi_queen) in for this one too, as she's my roomie in atlanta. this is great, cuz i really miss my college student friends that i don't see as often at competition.!

We should have people in each hotel meet in the lobby of there hotel, and then travel togeter to a meeting point for all the hotels and then go to our Destination. That way were always in groups, and nobody gets lost.

Er, I would assume everyone would just stay at the arena until it was time to meet up. That's the simple way to handle things.

Almost :) Christine was there, but it was Vicki who was called up on the phone by the Comedians... I recall they asked her her name, and "Is there anybody special in your life?" I was sitting next to her and she replied, "My parents" :p Interestingly, now we have been dating for over a year (but not at the time).
Although 639 qualified for nationals at the Canadian Regional this past weekend, we will not be attending. We were given basically one business day by FIRST to register for Nationals and that is not enough time. They really ought to space out nationals from regionals if they are going to use regionals as qualifiers. But that's for another thread  So I wish I could be at nationals, but can't make it this year. Hope you all have a lot of great fun!! :)

ok, i figure that most of the college students have or will read this thread, so here's where i'm postin' the stuff. i want to have a DOX get-together either the same day or the day after of the college student get-together. tell me which you prefer.
I'm giving out homework as co-founder! bring a list of things you'd like to see happen and progress with this Fraternity. list ways you think the fraternity can grow, be publicized, structured, etc. you don't even have to talk in our "meeting" about them if you want, just toss me a list and i'll review and type everything onto CD when i get home from atlanta.
Also, I want to order shirts. Please decide ASAP if you want one. the deadline is Monday April 19th, RIGHT after nationals. If you are going to be at nationals and you want one, tell me. I'm ordering sewn-lettered shirts (see my who am i) AND screenprinted shirts (see swadan's avatar) most likely.
If you want a shirt you need to tell me the following:
sewn on letters (my who am i photo)
*what color t-shirt
*what color letters (you can also choose a pattern from here (http://www.greek101.com/customization/) scroll down under sewn-on letters and look for the patterns link)
*what color border (if any)
*what size
*how many
screen-printed (swadan's avatar - no green bkgd)
*what color t-shirt
*what size
*how many
ok, email! or in person! ready go! SEE YOU IN ATLANTA!
I'm going to cross-post this in the FIRST Fraternity thread to, so don't waste your time re-reading it!

That's almost the whole story Pat. I seem to remember that when they asked "Is there anybody special in your life?" she turned and loooked at you first, and then said "My parents."

I'm really starting to believe that orange tie-dye was a bad idea that year. It's bad when you can pick yourself out of the thumbnail because of the t-shirt.
BTW, Angela is Angela Hall whom some of you should know. :)

Ok, I think someone need to be incharge of being the contact person. My experience is, everyone start to wander all over the place soon as we stop having access to the internet.
There need to be a gathering point, someone with all the phone numbers, etc, who can pull the group toward him/her. We should do that by setting up a meeting place Thursday evening, and give all our cell phone number to someone. I think that person can print out paper copies of this "roaster" with all our names, team number, cell phone numbers, and hotel names on it. Than we can keep in touch with each other with that roaster.
Any volunteers?

OK, let me try to organize this. If you are in for the college student gathering, please IM or PM me the following info:
Name, Cell phone number, Hotel you are staying in, team number, or if you are a volunteer whats your job and which field you are working in, will you have a car in Atlanta (and how much space including the driver).
My AIM screen name is LKen5412, or just PM me. Soon as I get everyone's info I will post a pdf of it so you can print it out for your own usage.

grr,.. is it too late, i'm always looking for outings to attend now that i'm not strapped down by being a student. i'm sure my head advisors would feel better that i'm out w/a group rather than on my own though. Sorry i took so long to respond to this thread, but i'm sorta in a bumper year, you know, btwn HS & College, so i'm a little reluctant about college-specific posts... Anyway, if it's not too late, count me in!

Alright all,
I am still struggling to find a place downtown that will allow me to get a reservation without a deposit. For now, let's all meet in the CNN center food court on Friday at 7:00 PM (sound like a good time?). I will continue looking for a place we can easily get to from there and let you all know. Sorry about the delay in getting this info out, it's not easy to find a place for a large group :( .

Wouldn't it make more sense to meet at the arena and then travel as a group to wherever we're going? That's a place that everyone knows where it is and makes it much easier to find.

i agree with matt....meeting at like gate A of the arena would be a much easier place to get to because once i go back to my hotel it is a 6+ block walk to the arena and i have no idea where the cnn food court is....
cbudrecki
13-04-2004, 11:16
ok, so where's the official place, we sticking with the CNN food court, or we changing it to outside the arena?
Anne Shade
13-04-2004, 12:06
Probably should have put more explanation on this when I first posted it. First of all, the CNN food court is in the CNN Center (attached to the Omni) and right next to the dome, just to the right of the Phillips arena on the map found here (http://www.gwcc.com/images/gwccmap.pdf).
The reason I wanted to meet there is because it's a cool place and it can be the backup plan to eat since there are tons of eating places there. It is also closer to most of the hotels. Does that make sense? Let me know what you all think.

13-04-2004, 12:19
