View Full Version : Where is Innovation First?

All Innovation First websites, including IFIrobotics.com (http://www.ifirobotics.com), seems to go to 4-post-racks.com (part of racksolutions.com) now. http://www.innovationfirst.com/FIRSTRobotics/ just gives me a 404 error.

Has IFI left the robot business? Is there anywhere else to download the RC documentation?

Thier website works fine for me. http://www.innovationfirst.com/FIRSTRobotics/
And so does the documentation section. Possibly contact Mike Walker and he could help you with the documentation if you can't get to it.

That site doesn't work for me anymore. I think they are having website problems because none of those links off the 4-Post-Racks website work.

Maybe one of their racks fell over... :ahh:

Nope it is telling me it isn't there.

Very odd indeed. No, it doesn't work for me either. And the site it redirects me to is having problems with its links. Perhaps its working for you because you have it cached in your browser? Try refreshing the page ... does it still come up?

Most likely, they just changed something and the DNS needs time to propogate.

Could possibly be something that IE doesn't like, I am using Mozilla Firebird and am able to view thier page just fine and read the documentation. I would try a different browser if your having problems.

Nope, not it, as I'm using Mozilla.

Can someone that it is working for post the results if they ping innovationfirst.com?

Edit: We already established that DNS propogates very slowly to clarkson (see the SOAP thread), so I'm sure that's it. Joel can reach it also.

So they just updated their DNS record, and haven't moved the site yet.

No, I'm using Opera (also tried IE) and it still doesn't work (as of 10:37 I just tried again).

NOTE:
If anyone needs the docs, I've put what I have online for download. THe sysadmin seems to have changed around all my permissions, hence the delay. If it helps, try this (http://www.nhgs.tec.va.us/~mrawls/robot/docs/) .

(Edit: I can add the default code if need be--though I imagine by this point most people should have that squared away! I think I'll be wondering off to sleep for now, though.)

This is very strange. Maybe it is a advanced, secret clue to next years game. :D

If you try browsing the website you get all kinds of errors. I think their web server went to hell in a hand basket. Hope they have a backup

I just found out about this today. It's really freaky. I tried pinging them, as follows:

If anyone can help (LIKE IFI), please do.

It appears to be okay to me now...

Joe's probably dead on about what went on, if they changed their DNS info sometimes it can take quite a while for all the DNS stuff to set. A good site to test stuff out is www.dnsstuff.com (Alan Anderson (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/member.php?u=6348) showed me this one :) )

I would bet that this is not a DNS issue. I think it's an Apache configuration issue. If you stop being so technical and just try to browse the site, you will find that it's just not working correctly.
IFI uses a single server with the IP address 216.173.227.141 configured with multiple virtual hosts. It's an Apache config error.

Since innovation first is down, isn't it kinda too late to order spare parts? Just wondering?

Mike, I might buy that as the only explanation if it worked the same for everyone. However, since Clarkson sees the old site and is known to have slow updateing DNS, that's why it works for those people but not anyone else.

However, you are correct that there is a server misconfiguration on the site that the new DNS record points to.

Could it be the cache?

Joe Ross

Possibly, except that multiple people from one university is affected, but no one else is.

i tried to email one of the ifi reps about this problem but due to their email being [a]innovationfirst.com ([a]=@), it was sent back to me sayng the inbox could not be found. I will try to make a few phone calls tomorrow and hopefully this can be resolved.

P.S. does anyone else now see the innovationfirst.cm main page and ifirobotics.com back now???

Yeah. The website was back yesterday thus the reason why I think it probably sever problems since I still can't get past the main page.

This just gives me an idea to download all the files and FAQs just incase. So hopefully if this happens next time, I will host the files on Team 25's website. I do have many files now, but not in a position to host them. I hope those of you need can get in touch with Innovation First. Feel free to ask me if you need any files...

Yes, the email server appears to be down.
I've been trying to get in contact for a few days now.

I'm sure they are aware of the problem, and will fix things, if there is an emergency, perhaps you should call IFI at (903) 454-1978. Otherwise... deal with it, and be patient.

You guys are right that Innovation FIRST has switches IP addresses. According to Netcraft (http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?host=innovationfirst.com) IFI has switched web hosts between April 5th and 10th. However my ISP COX@home's DNS is resolving the correct address of 216.173.227.141.

Performing a lookup on Innovation First's name server comes back with:

It looks like the transition from Windows/MS IIS to Linux/Apache was not a pretty one. I'm still calling this one an Apache configuration error ;)

Looks like someone at IFI didn't know that Apache is case sensitive

I have discovered that the FAQ is broken, so it's still not in 100% working order, just mostly so.
