It'll be here sooner than we think, so let's start the planning now. I've looked back at last year's IRI Music Thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20353&highlight=IRI+Music) and have many of those songs already. Really I'm just looking for anything new or interesting that you wanna hear! (As long as it's appropriate)
Let the requests begin! :]
THE COMPLETE WILLIAM HUNG COLLECTION!!!

THE COMPLETE WILLIAM HUNG COLLECTION!!!
Oh God NOOOOO!
I don't think it's original, but make sure to play 867-5309. It's the song that reminds me of FIRST for some reason, and the DJs at the events I went to never had it!
Also, please play The Final Countdown in the finals. Another that I requested at all 3 regionals and nobody had.
Oh, and Brim Full of Asha by Cornershop and Shook Me All Night Long....good ones!

You go tto find the cheese-head parody of the song "I'm a loser baby, so why don't ya kill me?". Play that for the WI teams (especially for team 93).

Some R&B at least? :)
Hey Mama - Black Eyed Peas
(I'll probably make a lot of posts like this in this thread, forgive me, but I'll keep adding songs as I think of them.)
Jeff Rodriguez
20-04-2004, 20:16
Any/All George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic
Strongbad - The Sytem is Down (PM me if you want the version off the CD, 1:46), Trogdor (1:39), and The Cheat is Not Dead (3:02)
ALL Presidents of the United States of America
Catch 22
Interpol
The Avalanches
The Sounds
Crystal Method
That's all I care to come up with right now.
edit: AND THE DARKNESSSS!!!!

I dont mind just as long as theres not much country and a couple of songs by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Some R&B at least? :)
Well, I'm not big on R&B and Country.. which means you guys gotta tell me what's hot and what's not :)
And don't worry, I own the Homestar Runner CD :) I think we could fit in a Trogdor or an Everybody to the Limit in somewhere.
Also, posting both the artist and the title of the song would be quite helpful.
Sometime... when I get a sufficient amount of songs compiled, I'll create a playlist and post it on here.

Well I'd suggest any good, upbeat, DDR songs, especially if you have the extended versions. Here are some other songs I think would be good for IRI:
Beastie Boys - Sabotage
Guns n Roses - Welcome to the Jungle
Tenacious D - Tribute
Led Zeppelin - Black Dog
Devo - Whip It
Kenna - Freetime
Maroon 5 - This Love
The Clash- I Fought the Law
The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go
Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf
Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
David Bowie - Let's Dance
The Doors - Break on Through
The Fixx - One Thing Leads to Another
Queen - Another one bites the dust (during elimination matches haha)
that's all I can think of for now.

Ohh, well I have some artists, but there's a lot of songs to choose from though.... heres come.......
Beyonce Knowles

...more coming when I think about them. :D
Ohh yeah! Don't forget about the Cha-Cha slide and all that. It'll be fun dancing around. Hehehe.

I remember a couple years ago...I think at the 2002 IRI, I was taken aback when I heard some bhangra coming out of the speakers. Let's do that again! (hehe, it was a little amusing/strangely heartwarming to watch non-Indians dance to it.)
Also, Coldplay never hurts...I've always wanted to have Radiohead/Optimistic or Radiohead/The National Anthem played during a round.
And Lord of the Rings stuff would be crazy cool, especially around the finals where you can make the music really intense and hardcore!
Finally, there is always Eye of the Tiger.
Jay Z (prod Dj Danger Mouse) - Encore
Incase you don't know, this is from the Grey Album, which is Jay-Z's Black Album mixed with samples from the Beatle's White Album. Made infamous through Wildstang's teaser this year, this is one of the songs I kept listening to right before 461 hit the field for finals.
EDIT: Baj is correct, Eye of the Tiger, and the Rocky theme are neccasary. Oh, and can't forget Kool and the Gang - Jungle Boogie.
Joe Matt
21-04-2004, 12:17
Time to Start- Blue Man Group
Rock Star- NERD
Channel Surfin- Feature Cast
Clocks- Coldplay
Oh, and Vengaboys is a great pick! In particular, "We Like To Party","Boom Boom Boom" and "Up and Down"

No offense to anyone, but Coldplay doesn't really sound like something that people could (for lack of a better word) energize themselves too. Their songs are more like lullabies, but that too is another story.
Here's my list of People/Bands we should play
Genesis
ACDC
The Eagles
Bruce Springstein
Village People (Uber Techno versions ;))
Meatloaf
Jimmy Buffet
Chris Fultz

Collin Fultz
28-04-2004, 22:14
REM - End of the World as we know it
that has to be the funniest song to watch people try to sing (i'm no better at it)
"six o'clock. tv something blada yada yada yada (repeat until) it's the end of the world as we know it. it's..."
p.s. my 229th post...division by zero

Good ones, Andrew. Gotta love the old dance music like Rock Lobster. My kids are on a Beastie Boys kick, with their favorite being "Hey Ladies!"
I am a proud dad - my kids STILL don't know who Brittney Spears or Backstreet Boys are. And, just today, my 2-year-old was humming "We Will Rock You" by Queen.
As for what to play at IRI, just keep things mixed up (hard rock, dance, old stuff, techno, r&b, whatever) and keep 'em clean.

Guys,
Mix it up all you want, but come finals ... we need to keep it loud and jammin'!
The elimination rounds need to have songs that make you want to bang your head into a wall!
Oh, and of course, during the eliminations we will need to be dancing on the field during "robot cool off time."

Hmmm... I have images of Paul dancing around and putting his head through the wall of the gymnasium. We're gonna have to watch how much coffee and donuts he puts into his system.
Maybe my worries are for nothing. Paul's idea of "bang your head" music is probably something upbeat by Sinatra, like "Lady is a Tramp". ... Crazy Italian.

Don't worry :) I've downloaded many "anticipation" songs, as I call them... that just kinda build it all up, and then some really fast paced stuff for the finals.
Within the next few weeks.. after all the hectic school work ends.. I'll start working on getting all these songs you guys are posting, and keep em' coming :]

I know you all at least saw the FIRST Regional Music Playlist thread way back in january. And if you read it you also saw that I was going to make a CD of that music. So that's what I'm working on, if you don't like it, complain to your peers, but I figure this will make Ryan's job just a little easier (all I need to know now is if he wants a data CD of the music or an MP3 CD...lemme know!)
Here's the post with the excel sheet of all the music suggested. Ryan, if you get a chance, double check it and tell me if there are doubles!
I'm so tired I completely forgot the link! HERE (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?p=220222#post220222) is the post!
See you at IRI!

I'm callin K-Tel, because I don't think some of these are the original songs / original artists....
where is my 8-track collection ?
Look what they've done, to my song, ma ... **
** ... this is from a song by Melanie, very polular in the late 60's and early 70's. Ask your parents, kids. She also sang "Brand New Key" - supposedly about roller skates but I think it was probably drug related, just like all other 60's music.
********
At the right time of the awards
Unbelievable - EMF
We Are the Champsions - Queen (for the humble teams)
********
Ryan, I'm likin' that "Indiana Artists Hour" idea more and more.
Do you want to borrow my Jackson 5 albums to get some songs?
I have some Hoagie Carmichael, too, but those are 78's and I don't take them out of the vault.
****
PS. DJ - Please stay out of my posts, and I will stay out of yours.
Maybe I didn't want them 'merged'. :)
I'm callin K-Tel, because I don't think some of these are the original songs / original artists....
Most of them are not the original release of the song listed. There's nothing wrong with that. I enjoy covers considerably and maintain quite a large library of them. They're often more interesting and more relevant than the original song as recorded.

So there's been some mention of Led Zeppelin... but no mention of Immigrant Song, in particular. I feel it's my obligation to recommend it.

Hey I think you need to play some smash mouth All-star. It's one awesome song if you ask me. And ofcorse the song "Love shack"( I think only Andy B. or somebody from 45 would get that). But I am sure you will play some cool songs

So, what's the best way to make a playlist? and I don't mean one on like Winamp or something that'll be used to play off of, I just mean a text one so I can show you guys which songs I have...?
KyleGilbert45

I would just use winamp and generate an HTML playlist then just copy and past that into a word document or notepad.

Some suggestions:
-Black eye peas- hey mama
-AFI- girls not grey
-NERD- rockstar
-Linkin Park- In the end, Faint (ha, i just saw i poll that said 50% love LP and 50% hate their guts. I thought that was pretty funny. :D )

Artists are good, but Artists and song titles are better - I'm much more likely to get songs by a specific artist if I know which songs people want from them. Just a thought. :]
Just a few suggestions:
staind - yesterday, price to play
new found glory - all downhill from here
alien ant farm - goodbye, s.s. recognize
eve 6 - think twice
hoobastank - same direction, out of control
incubus - circles, under my umbrella
linkin park - faint
puddle of mudd - spin you around, already gone
trust company - take it all
godsmack - changes, re-align
Yeah I basically went down my windows media player list and picked out some of the more widely-known bands and songs. This should make them a little easier to find. :D
Elyse Holguin

anything by david bowie (esp. from the labyrinth soundtrack :P) and i'd like to hear Special K's great hit shiny dirt again!! Haha, ask robohottie71 about that :D
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers- Runnin' Down A Dream(The music for our season video). It's a great song, good lyrics, and can sum up FIRST a bit. Any of the songs I've posted about, you can just ask me for and I'll give them to you if you don't want to search them out to download them. :)

13-05-2004, 01:06
other songs i'd enjoy hearing:
Reptilia- The Strokes
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger- Daft Punk
One More Time- Daft Punk
I Believe in a Thing Called Love- The Darkness (yeah, i know... but my team has some fun memories of bus rides and belting this one out.)
Breathe on Me- Britney Spears (I know what you are all thinking, but this song is really a pretty good one, the beat is so awesome.)
maybe i'll think of more later.

Perhaps this is my inspriation to finally make Shiny Dirt v 6.0 (Robomix)! If not...good old Shiny Dirt v 1.0 can be brought with and played for all to marvel at :ahh: Maybe if someone can host it for me, I'll release it for the masses and link it here (my MSOE webspace probably can't handle the number of downloads that this awesome song will receive!)
Other songs on my list:
-Megadeth - Crush'em (ok, so the lyrics aren't exactly about gracious professionalism, but its still a good competition song!)
-Alice Deejay - The Lonely One (Great rave song)
-Eye of the Tiger
-The FIRST regulars (Cotten Eyed Joe, We Like to Party, The Launch, Kernkraft 400, Better Off Alone)
I'm sure there is more...but this list is huge already! Its gonna be an awesome time!!!

Dave,
Don't waste a blank CD. I don't like any of these songs. If you want anyone to hear this garbage, you will have to bring the CD to the IRI yourself. One for each day. And guest MC. And give a motivation speech. And tell us about the 2005 game.
;) shameless, blatant attempt to get dave to commit to the IRI ;)

(oooh, good idea, Chris!)
No, Dave, we DON'T want to hear about how Spirit and Opportunity are doing, and we DON'T want to hear how much support you guys are getting after an immensely successful mission. Heck, we WON'T even have time to let you talk to the crowd... we'll be too busy with human player competitions, talent shows and getting in 8 qualification matches for 60 teams.
Yeah, you just come and bring your CD of sucky-songs. We might play them, we might not.
(gee, I hope this works!)
hmmm... speaking of space, why don't you add this to the list when (if?) Dave shows up:
Rocket Man - Elton John
Andy B.

It's gettin there guys :) I'm really looking for music now that could be used in the finals and awards ceremony. To look at the IRI Awards, see here - http://www.indianafirst.org/The_2004_Indiana_Robotics_Invitational_Rev_0.pdf
A few I have thought of for the awards are "My Hero" by the Foo Fighters, "It's all about the Benjamins" by Puff Daddy and of course "All Star" by Smash Mouth. What else eh? :]

Trust me, the country that I play must meet my expectations... which basically means a) doesn't sound like most country b) still sounds good c) minimizes the use of phrases such as "honkey tonkey" :]

Here is the playlist thus far - remember there's still 15 days or so, and I'm definately still taking requests... haven't got that much feedback, so - let me know what you guys think and let me know if you don't see a song that you want on there.. :]
edit: Looks like you have to save the file and then open it from your computer.

146. Rob Dougan - Furious Angels
that is such an AWESOME song! i performed in a routine to the instrumental version in my dance studio's recital this year. if i was going to IRI, that would certainly make me want to bust a move!
p.s. props for all the mellencamp!!
Let me just say, that's a beautiful playlist! Good job, I can't wait!
Do you think you can add Paul Oakenfold - Ready Steady Go? It's a good beginning of the day song. 311 - Down is a good one too.

I've updated the IRI Playlist.. it's still growing, and it needs to continue. I'm shooting for around 700 songs... any suggestions would be helpful. Very helpful :]

I don't know if you would want them but here's a few more:
Toby Keith - Whiskey Girl
John Mayer - Bigger than my Body
Janet Jackson - All Nite (Don't Stop)
Chritina Milian - Dip It Low
Nina Sky - Move Ya Body

Some oldies but goodies:
Stir it up - Bob Marley
Good Vibrations - Beach Boys
It's Now or Never - Elvis
25 or 6 to 4 - Chicago
Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - (forget the artist, it's a campy disco song)
Funkytown - (again, forget the artist)
Some up-tempo Sinatra tunes would mix in well, also, with all of this new stuff. Maybe "Lady is a Tramp" or "Under my skin"
Speaking on Sinatra... "These Boots are Made for Walkin" - Nancy Sinatra
Shifting genres, we need some old-school hip hop in here also. How about:
Momma Said Knock You Out - LL Cool J
It Takes Two - Rob Base
Andy B.
Travis Hoffman
27-06-2004, 04:09
Some oldies but goodies:
Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood - (forget the artist, it's a campy disco song)
Santa Esmeralda. It's actually a remake of the vastly superior song originally recorded by The Animals (which wouldn't exactly fit at the IRI):
"I'm just a soul whose intentions are good. Oh Lord, please don't let me be misunderstood...."
Funkytown - (again, forget the artist)
Lipps, Inc.
I shouldn't know that stuff, but I watch too much VH-1 not to know.
How about various selections from the Top Gun soundtrack....
Great Balls of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis
Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins
Mighty Wings - Cheap Trick
Just for fun:
In the Navy - Village People
And finally, for Karthik (AND Amanda :-P):
You've Lost that Loving Feeling - Righteous Brothers

Few more:
Black Eyed Peas - Hey Mama
Jennifer Lopez - I'm real
Eve 6 - Here's to the Night
Daurde - Feel the Beat
IMDWalrus

Looking at the playlist...
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper / Little Help from my Friends" (I don't know if you're following the FIRST award playlist, but it would be nice to hear the combo of show up during competition)
Barenaked Ladies - Life, In a Nutshell (upbeat, and it's one of those songs that no one else seems to have heard)
Santana - Smooth (it's not on the playlist, and I've heard it at every other FIRST event I've been to. Can't break the chain. :))
Other than those four, I can't think of much else to add. Nice job with the playlist.

"Low Rider" by War definitely needs to be on that list. :)
Others:
"Falling for the first time" - Barenaked Ladies
"Free to Go" - Folk Implosion
"Boom Boom Boom" - Rare Blend
"Lollipop (Candiman)" - Aqua
"Caraluna" - Bacilos
"Greatest Day" - Bowling for Soup
"Don't Give Up on Me" - Fastball
"Calc Lecture Girl" - I Voted for Kodos
"I Want You to Want Me" - Letters to Cleo
"Mirror Mirror" - M2M
... I think that's it, for now. If you need "Calc Lecture Girl", let me know - I Voted for Kodos isn't that popular yet, and most people don't have their music ... yet. :)
