i just spent a little bit of time re-watching some of the archimedes matches for fun.... i made a list of all the fun "announcer sayings" that Dan Green made.... A few of these comments are completely crazy... there are more out there, i only rewatched Friday's matches, a few of these "announcerisms" occurred on saturday!
"dropping like lemmings -- Match 71 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_071.wmv)
"waiting for those lemmings to drop" -- Match 78 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_078.wmv)
"falling like puppy chow", "i am john v-neun" -- Match 81 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_081.wmv)
"trying to get there before connie chung comes back to atlanta", "the lemmings are dropping", "that was an elevator accident folks", "cutting through the smog" -- Match 83 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_083.wmv)
"for a minute i thought they were trying to take the MARTA!" -- Match 84 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_084.wmv)
"sounds like dino and the flinstones licking fred on the face" -- Match 85 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_085.wmv)
"playing that goal like a (instrument i can't spell)", "nobody knows what's gonna happen, muhc better than reality TV folks" -- Match 87 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_087.wmv)
Thanks to Dan Green for playing the "announcer game" down in atlanta.

ah, and the repeating of the miracle of the One Day Robot! "Oh yes folks, they built their robot in ONE DAY!" "And they're back! The team that built their robot in ONE DAY!"
That was so great.
"Archi-!"

I just watched a bunch of matches from Saturday, and I must say that the Archimedes announcer said the most awesome, random things.
the other announcer: "watch out Aidan, they're coming to get ya" - beginning of Match 101 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_101.wmv)
"here come the 5pt balls on the field, rolling around like fuzzy dice!" -
Match 116 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_116.wmv)
"It's sittin' there like a lemon head [referring to the 2x ball on the top platform)"-Match 117 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_117.wmv)
"They look like a stand-up hovercraft! [team 378]" - Match 118 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_118.wmv)
"It's gonna be wicked hard" (so it wasn't that funny, but I like it) - Match 119 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_119.wmv)
"That is wicked awesome!" other announcer, right after that: "wicked awesome." - Match 120 Match 120 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_120.wmv)
"We're gonna taste the rainbow in this one" (I have no idea what he's referring to" "that's all she wrote!" - Match 121 (good number!) (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_121.wmv)
"They're all over them like too short shorts!" (again, no idea.) - Match 124 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_124.wmv)
"That's koolaid, man! [after I (i'm the manipulator on 121) capped a really full mobile goal]" - Match 125 (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2004/movies/arc/arc_125.wmv)
Also, one of my friends saw this guy say "oh for shizzle...there's four robots on the bar!" on the webcast for the midwest regional (i think).
O WOW...thanks for collecting these....very excellent.
OT, who was the announcer for the Awards Ceremony? The guy who did "Please welcome ______, chairperson of ____" and that stuff.

"Archi-!"
MEDES!!!! come on im the only one here....
i thought that, if nothing else, he kept the game interesting...i mean not that FIRST isnt by default but ill parallel it to dan rathers comments in the 2000 election...."votes are coming in sweeping like a hurricane through the south" and such....made it fun to listen to....my big thing was that, at first, he didnt seem confident like someone was making him be there....however he quickly became lively and full of fun things to say...as we have demonstrated....i remember the lemmings the best....definitely off the beaten path

Now available in a nice, easily accessible .WAV file (http://home.comcast.net/~pwebb86/stuff/john-v-neun.wav). I don't have anything important to do with my webspace...it'll probably be there for a while.
The fact that one of the announcers actually used the "I Am John-V-Neun" phrase in a match brings a huge smile to my face. That may be the single coolest thing I've ever heard in a match... :)

Well I know that, Elgin. It just struck me as extremely odd. Then again, Dan said a lot of strange, funny things. I'm so I can listen to all of these great sayings I missed.

In another thread, it's been said that various people hand Dan Green (and other announcers) little notes with sayings on it. Random things that he has to fit into the game somewhere.
It's hilarious and it really does make the game that much more fun and interesting!

Thanks for the explanation...If I had known about that, I would've done it. Oh well. There's always next year.

What was the context in which he said "I am JVN"?

Yeah, i was one of the people feeding him lines.
Many we chose out of the newspaper, some out of our head
I thought up,
"fuzzy Dice"
"Wicked Awesome"
We were eating puppy chow, skittles, and lemonheads...so thats how we got that.
It was hillarious!

...and I was one of the people feeding him material.
I think somewhere in there I got "holy smoke-a-roonies!"
I wish I could remember the other ones I gave him..."it's the bomb-diggity" was on one list, but I don't think he said it. Bah.
Maybe I should announce next year. I think I could do it.

This was classic, like usual....nothing better then the best from Dan!
What cracked me up is the people at the score table like David Kelly, Ben Lauer, Brandon Martus, Dave Ferreria, and Amanda Morrison trying to come up with these phrases and then celebrating everytime Dan used one...classic!

Inside joke from our team, it was our team volunteer who got him to say it.

Dan is a great announcer.
Some from Midwest:
"and the tater tots are released onto the field" (or something like that)
"...like squidword outta spogeebob"
"there go the sigmac@ts, there no technokittens"
As the announcer from Curie field I am a little jealous. I have had at other regionals and last year at Championships , people hand me words or phrases. This is so much fun and makes us think outside of the box. When you just concentrate on the game you tend to say the same things over and over. It is a tough job not to. I would like to see a new position made up as Chief Helper of Phrases (Chop) to make things more interesting. Any takers? :D

Hey Steve,
I'll be willing to be your CHOP... if you're up for the challenge. :)
Bring it on for Canada's Wonderland Challenge, June 5 - 6 :ahh:

I'm game, this will add a whole new dimension to the event. Be forewarned, there's nothing I love more than tossing in old song lyrics into everyday conversation.
This is more reason that all you should bring your teams up to the Canada's Wonderland Event. What could be more exciting than the MC - Announcer combo of myself and Steve Warren? That's worth the price of admission itself.

Most of the dumb little phrases, silly words, and cackling laughter came from the group of Ben Lauer, Dave Ferreira, Brandon Martus, Tom Schindler, David Kelly, and I. Between Dan Green and Ron Partridge, we had a blast with the sayings above and many more. Eventually, we went through the paper and found funny things for these two to say. I think everyone had a great time, and these guys really know how to keep the crowd on their toes.
Where's my Dippin' Dots?,
