So, before the spotlights get pared down, I thought a good way to send them off would be to have a vote for your favorite 2004 spotlight!

Rules:
- Spotlights must be from the 2004 season. 2004 season is defined as September 2003 - May 2004.
-Categories: Best overall spotlight, best humorous spotlight, best serious spotlight, and most FIRST-inspirational spotlight.
-Procedure: When I say this is a go, members will have one week to nominate spotlights via PM. Nominate as many times as you like, for any category. The nominations will then be put in poll format and the voting will occur over three days. Winners will be announced at the end.
-Prize: Ummm, I'll give you rep points? Also, there's a less likely chance that a quote will get whacked if people love it so much. And if it's fitting, maybe we can convince Brandon to use one of them on the tshirts next year ;)

Sooo, what do you think? Let me know!

Well, I'd let everyone know what the cutoff spotlight is (aka, the earliest one from a post made in September 2003), and then you can work off of that.

And remember, you can give multiple nominations :)

<Edit> Cutoff quote is:

I personally think any student should be allowed to participate, as long as he/she is helpful and active. FIRST, to me, is about inspiration, not elitism.
-Aignam

That's located towards the bottom of page 4. If sorted chronologically by post (how it automatically is done when you go into the spotlight pages), anything before that quote page-wise and including that quote is fair game. </Edit>

I think it's a good idea too. Is there a certain (or ballpark) number of maximun spotlights you want to keep on CD? I also take it from your post that we PM you and not the other mods?
Just let us know when it's time to start voting. ;)

Two questions:

a) Should the whole spotlight text be sent to you? Or is there an ID number?
b) People can't vote for their own spotlights, or can they?

a.) no ID number, just copy/paste it in the PM.
b.) I don't see a problem with nominating or voting for your own spotlight....because if the majority likes it, that will show in the voting.

Is there a certain (or ballpark) number of maximun spotlights you want to keep on CD? I also take it from your post that we PM you and not the other mods?

a.) No idea as of yet...there really isn't a set number, not does ther eneed to be, since we're doing this for content reasons as opposed to space reasons.
b.) Yeah, you'd send them to just me (but if you want to let the other mods know too, you can....they love getting mail ;) ).

The 2004 Spotlight Contest is Open!

please PM me your nominees for:
-Best overall spotlight (This one should go to the spotlight that most says "2004 season" to you)
-Best humorous spotlight (There must be something funny in there....)
-Best serious spotlight ("Come see the softer side of FIRST")
-Most FIRST-inspirational spotlight (Chairmans-worthy, people.)

You don't need to do all the categories, just as much as you want to. Please don't forget to copy the name of the person who was spotlighted, as well (it makes it easier to find that way).

Spotlights must be from a post made in the 2004 season. 2004 season is defined as September 2003 - May 2004. You can check the age of a spotlight by clicking on the blue page picture thingy on the left of the spotlight itself. All spotlights not from this time period will be removed from monimation.
To help, the cutoff quote is:

I personally think any student should be allowed to participate, as long as he/she is helpful and active. FIRST, to me, is about inspiration, not elitism.
-Aignam

That's located towards the bottom of page 4. If sorted chronologically by post (how it automatically is done when you go into the spotlight pages), anything before that quote page-wise and including that quote is fair game.

Nominations close on Wed, May 26th at midnight....so get crackin! :D

Here's a direct link to the spotlight page that lists them all http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/spotlightlist.php?

Jess I think you forgot to put the link in your posts, it's just a little easier than having to search for the spotlight page first. ;)

For future usage:

There's a 'more' link in the upper right. You can also get to it via the 'quick links' drop-down up top .. under Extras.

Shoot! My favorite is at the top of page 9:
"Duct tape is like the Force - it has a dark side and a light side and it holds the universe together." - Jnadke :D

Well, there is this quote (not spotlighted! Waa!):
"C is screwing up my English--I'm ending all my sentence in semi-colons;" -Anthony Kesich

I can't find that in any posts, which is probably why it isn't spotlighted.

It's in Anthony Kesich's signature (here (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/member.php?userid=3464))

Which explains why it isn't spotlighted.

Jess, when do we get results? ;)

When I put the polls up (probably today).

Sheesh, you guys went to town on the humorous spotlight. That's going to take up the bulk of my time.

<<Edit>>
Here's some stats:
serious spotlights: 4
best overall spotlight: 4
most FIRST-spirational spotlight: 4
undefined (aka, they decided not to give a category): 3
most humorous spotlight: 21

The polls will be up shortly (aka, once Brandon decides to bump up the poll limit to 21 for me).
