I've been trying to install the mplab stuff to do some programming on the robot but i keep getting this error. I've installed it on 3 computers, and i get the same error for all 3. (2 of them use windows xp, 1 of them uses windows 2000. I followed the installation walk-through so im pretty sure that isn't the problem. Any suggestions?

Can you give a little more information? Did the error occurr during the install? If so, during what stage? If after install completed, what were you doing when the error occurred?

Could it be one of the problems mentioned in this thread (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28578)?

it happens when i try to open MPLAB IDE
I think this should solve it
1) Uninstall MPLABS
2) Open C:
3) Go into the 'mcc18' folder
4) UNWISE.exe or UNINSTALL.exe .. whichever it is.. i cant remember

5) IMP - RESTART COMPUTER

6) Follow exact installation instructions and install..

Let me know how it goes...IF you install over a existing compiler, it may give that error. It hapenned to me..

It appears over the splash screen (look at edge). Are you an administrator? is anything else runnig? what comes up if you debug (hit cancel)?
(It's an mplab error, not an mcc18 error)

TeknoBramha: I've already done that numerous times with no change.

Astronouth7303:
-Yes it is over the splash screen.
-Yes I am the administrator.
-No nothing else is running (new install of windows xp on one of the computers). On the other 2 computers, they have the programs running for my sound card, video card and mouse (things in system tray).
-When I hit debug, microsoft visual c++ load up and gives me the error "Unhandled exception in MPlab.exe: oxc0000005: Access Violation."

oh, god. Visual Basic does that to me on my non-user (WinME). It works on other users, though; and I haven't figured out how to fix it, yet.

I assume since you're an admin, you have access to everything.

All I can say is use something else and have it run MCC18.

I think, at this point, I would ask Microchip.

your "C" compiler has a DLL file that is incompatable with mplab. to resolve this you must install a different version of MPLAB or of the compiler.
also you must completely unistall either or both of these applications, so that the referrence to the DLL is removed.

it could even be a third application. but my experience tells me it is the "C" compiler.

huh? the MCC18 compiler is actually a couple of EXE's. MPLAB just runs them.
