Are you sure about that answer? I'm no astronomer and don't really know how absolute magnitude works, but according to this page (http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/astronomy/stars/bright.shtml) there are a number of stars with an absolute magnitude value lower (brighter) than that of Vega.

Yeah, that chart is off... but it turns out I also screwed up when I looked at my charts on my computer. My computer has Deneb, followed by Mu Sagitarius.

For the record, apparent magnitude is a star's brightness as seen from Earth, however absolute magnitude is a star's brightness from 10 parsecs.
