I got him. One left.
And in answer to the blocking of Gmail invites, I had no problems with Hotmail, but then again, my junk filter was set on low since I don't really get spam on that account. If it doesn't go to your inbox, check to see if it's in the junk folder.

You might want to try ReturnPath (http://www.ecoa.net/). It's free for home use, and I've used it for 4.5 years since I switched from dial-up to broad band cable. You're also able to list several email addresses to forward to one new one.

Hey you think you have problems with spam Im getting the same stupid messages on two differnt email accounts. I'm surprised though cause the one email is my last name and my first initial.

So far (knock on wood) I haven't had any spam problems with my Gmail account. I'm still using my Hotmail as my main account so my Gmail account isn't getting used as much.

I have been furious about the spam... I check my mail 20+ times a day, and easily have 50 new spam messages in there each time. I checked a couple that seemed somewhat harmless for their sources and most spam in other accounts in the past have actually stated the full "name"@account . com/net however I noticed on a few in Gmail, its just "similar name"@ gmail.com. It's almost as if Gmail sends the email to the account that "most resembles the to: address. :mad:

I haven't had a single problem with spam yet, and I'm surprised. My AOL, Hotmail, and Yahoo are basically spam collectors now. Even my AIM is barraged with IMs from spammers. But g-mail for a month or two, and still spam free.

And I REALLY use my g-mail. I use it for all my FIRST e-mail.

Have to say, so far I am thrilled with g-mail. The organization it provides is great.

I wouldn't be surprised if early-adopters are getting spammed. Maybe some others recall if you logged into gmail with a username that didn't exist or one where the password was just wrong, you'd get two different responses. Great way for spammers to figure out what names were available. I imagine there are spam bots hammering away at gmail's server. Maybe some trying to create usernames.. and if they already exist, spam them! Who knows.

Sometimes I have to wait 15-20 minutes and other times almost a whole day! :( I didn't change any settings with Gmail or my LAN connection. All I have to do is wait and it will magically work again when it feels like it. Hopefully it's just a bug that they'll get fixed before they release Gmail to the public.

I used to have trouble holding onto my invites. Then I used one to invite my self to a second account, and used an invite from that account to invite my self to a third and so on. All these new accounts got new invites daily. I have around 3 accounts, totalling something like 12 invites or so.

I could have about 50 invites in 3 days if I wanted to (along with more storage for email then on my harddrive). I think it's gotten to the point were the people who want a gmail account, have a gmail account.

There is the Gmail Drive Shell Extension http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm it installs itself as another drive in your My Computer. The only downside is that files must be 10 MB or smaller (in order to comply with google's 10 MB attachment limit)

If you have a webserver, you can use Gmail Invite sig (http://www.gmailwiki.com/index.php/Gmail_Invite_Sig) to update your signature with the number of gmail invites you have. (Like mine.)

You need PHP with the GD and CURL extensions in order to use it.

If anyone really wants one, they might consider this:

isnoop.net's gmail invite spooler (http://isnoop.net/gmailomatic.php)

It's a page that collects invitations, and redirects them to whoever submits a request. I haven't tried it myself, but it seems useful enough. And it's been pretty popular lately, as evidenced by this usage graph.

50 - 16 = 50???
Ok I had 50 gmail invites, i gave away 16. and I now have 50??

I had a similar experience.

I had 4 invites for awhile and I finally gave one away 2 weeks ago which brought me down to 3. The 3 only lasted until the next day and I was back up to 4. Then sometime in the middle of last week I went up to 50! :eek:

Whoa, I didn't realize that I had 50 invites, thats really cool. now i can make 49 other accounts and never save anything to my hard drive again.

That is a lot of invites.

EDIT I just found this site that takes all of you Gmail invites, albiet 1 at a time, and puts them on to a list for people who actually want one.

Google is wanting everyone to do their work of finding people for GMail.
this will be mean, but if you don't want to wait for invites go to www.spymac.com (http://www.spymac.com/) . You get a blog, photogallery, an 1gig of email storage.
I myself do use GMail and spymac.
I still need to get rid of My 50 invites too.

yea.. well gmails tactics are smart, they get to test their new email for a long time, and delay their public realease again and again, by giving invites out.. its smart.. think..

what are u doing here? ur discusing gmail, telling ppl of the benefits and asking if they want an invite, if gmail was public already.. would u still be here talking about it ?? .. tahts what u call, smart word of mouth advertisement, as long as gmail is giving out invites, it will always be a topic of discusion.

and yet again.. i think this is 6th time.. i got refreshed with 50 invites.. they are not stopping. . . maybe ill post some again tomorow.. jeeze .. the second batch i posted are gone too!! !holy shiot man!

ok... about POP3 email access (most providers).. the thing is, once u open outlook or Thunderbird < BEST!, it will download all emails off the server to YOUR HD, and then delete off server, so the email provider only needs to store average 25MB of data TEMPORARILY, and YOU have to use 1GB of your HD for space! .. . yea.. and what if ur computer crashes? all your saved emails are gone buddy..unless you backed up your HD. .. so . pop3 is not all that its cracked up to be...

well, that and the fact taht you cant access your 'already downloaded' emails from other pcs / worldwide. (most email providers allow website acess to your emails,) but only new ones (since old emails were deleted)...well yea.. these days on new pcs. a 1gb is nothing, but for my old family PC that i used to use, 1gb was my hd :hahah.: glad i got a new amd 3300+now .. that was an awfull era.. .. meh.... raids are fun.. :P..

anyways.. back on topic here.. : this is getting ridiculous.. cuz guess what, i open my email account and shure enough, i got my invites back up to 50,, i lost count after the 4th refresh.. i think im at 7 now.. .. so ill be donating another 15 when i get home.. so if anyoen is still itching for an invite.. just wait till after 4pM eastern.. they should be up by then

ENJOY.. 1GB email.. awsome spam filter.. and cool email adressess... my only request.. PLEASE CHANGE THE SECONDARY EMAIL ADRESS while in the sign up page.. for your security, as password reminders get sent to secondary email adresses, and if u leave it on SHORT1@gmail.com i will get them..... so please change it to blank or some other email..

If you want to store a file or program in your Gmail account, just mail it to yourself as an attachment. Then it's always available, as long as you havve access to the internet.

hmm already sent him 3.. o well now he has some to share.. ahha..

anyways.. . their is a couple programs that auto send stuff to ur gmail account, so say u drop a 200Mb vid in the program and press send, it will split it up and send chunk by chunk for you.. which is coool.. their is also a program called Gmail Shell drive extension, and it makes your google account act liek a Harddrive on your Pc allowing u to drag and drop, and delete (file size limit in effect). . . **havnlt tried that one, dun really think thats safe having to give out your email pass etc.. so . .hmm.. be cautious..

but the auto sender (i use Peer2Mail) works decent..

If you want your GMail account to show up as a drive in your My Computer... Use this little program:

There is the Gmail Drive Shell Extension http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm it installs itself as another drive in your My Computer. The only downside is that files must be 10 MB or smaller (in order to comply with google's 10 MB attachment limit)

so im willing to donate 100...later when i have the time.. i gota go to school ritght now... each invite email is aprox 1.5 kb...you know the number of emails is gona be like: 1.4million invites.. . i know cheif delphi is big.. but. .. i dont think we can fill a 2gig gmail account... . maybe a hotmail account yes.. . only 250mb.. <only 160k invites.... tahts still a lot of invites man :P. . .. hmm maybe ill donate to saw tooth distortion again..
