I can't wait to get started for next year, and I didn't see any threads on this yet. I was wondering if any team volunteered to host the 2004 Robot Rodeo and if there will be one. Unless I missed something, I guess this can be the official Robot Rodeo discussion thread.

I think that the rodeo is great for our team. It gives the rookies a chance to see how a competition works before just jumping into build season. However, it is hard for them since they don't know much about the robot from the year before, since they weren't around while it was built. This should be a great competition.

This is gonna be my third year in robotics, and the first two years i had band competitions the exact same day as the robot rodeo. but this year i get to go, and i don't even have a football game to go to the night before cuz it's away and we play boynton beach... woo hoo!! okay, sorry, i'm calm now...

The Rodeo last year at University High School is where I got bit by the robotics bug. I have been absolutely hooked ever since. My team (err, both of them) will be attending this year. I am hoping that 1390's bot... will be running by then...cough. We had problems at UCF, and things haven't gotten much better since. We all plan to be working by October 23rd, though.
By the way, anyone in the area can check my AIM profile to see other upcoming events for robotics. AIM: Bonzack
Other good news, I dont have to miss any seriously important OU football games while at the rodeo! woo hoo!!

Hey, would anyone be up for Fantasy First for the Robot Rodeo?
I am also thinking about doing it for my new team next year.... have everyone do it (make some trophy out of an old bust motor or caster perhaps). Could be a way for my team to research other teams to get them used to scouting? ideas?

thanks, I plan on showing the newcomers the sigmacat website, and massive archive of videos from Atlanta and the UCF Regional. How possible would it be to list the team numbers in each video somewhere? regardless, I can't wait to see the FL robots in action again.

Well the team numbers are listed for for the Archimieds Divisions of the 2004 Champs on scoutingdb.circuitrunners.com and videos avaibe at soap.circuitrunners.com. The match list w/ team numbers isnt directly avalible (you search for a team and then it displays the matches they were in and then you pick which match to view in greater detail), but I can fix it so that it will print out all matches w/ team numbers if you want. It will be only for Archimedes, but at least its something. Let me know...

At the robot rodeo this year we will be having a toy drive for 5 month to 10 year olds at the Women’s Residential and Counseling Center associated with the Homeless Coalition. Most of these kids come from troubled families and very little foundation which leads to a belief in their eyes that they have been abandoned. However, over the past few years the recreation room has fallen into complete disarray and there is a complete lack of toys for the kids to play with and enjoy. We have started a toy drive to collect new toys so that the kids can have things to play with.
Please bring New toys for the donation box. If every team would bring even a few toys it would make a difference in these children's lives. I have volunteered there myself to babysit and its a sad sight when they don't even have toys to bring them joy in an already difficult life.
yes robot rodeo im ready im pumped, im a rookie so i dont know what its about or anything, but i cant wait to go

I wish we could go to the Robot Rodeo...but, obviously, living in Indiana doesn't make it possible for us to attend this year. Maybe next year Baker can get all of us T-Kat's out of school and we can fly down and compete in it. :p HAHA In my dreams. I wish everybody luck thats going though, and most of all everyone going have fun! :)

I have a request/suggestion for Robot Rodeo if the coordinators / participants are in favor of it:
We use this event as a chance for our rookies to get a taste of competition and to give everyone who wants it a chance to be on stage if possible. They will show up on saturday familiar with the rules (hopefully) but with no shooting or driving experience. I would like to ask if we can increase the number of people on stage for this event, maybe from 4 to 6. My desire is to have last year's drivers, operators and human players be additional coaches, who can tell them or show them what to do if they get into trouble. Is that OK?

Sorry to hear you guys are not going to be there. We did not go last year because we had a massive golf tournament fundraiser going that very same day. Ironically some team-members (I dunno how many) will be going this year, and we also have the golf tournament this saturday as well; the rest of the team will be doing that.
We plan on allowing some of the potential drivers for 2005 to compete at Robot Rodeo.

In case anyone has not heard yet, there is some road construction on Rouse Road, blocking the normal path to UHS. I am posting an alternate route.
We found that after taking the Rouse Rd. exit,
due to
major construction, that Rouse Rd. was blocked from shortly after the
exit all
the way to Colonial. This was the route to take tommorow.
There is always the chance that they will get the road work done by
tommorow
but they had several bulldozers out there.
We found that if you take the Alafaya exit off of the East West, go
north,
turn left at Colonial (by the Wendy's) then proceed on to Rouse Rd., you
can
then go right, go up the road about 1/2 mile, then turn right on to
Eastwood.
This will take you to University High School.

and now here i am logged in right after tyty! when he is repeating everything i am typing in here. The 2004 Robot Rodeo was awesome. All the teams had fun. the BEST part was the spirit of all the teams. Congratulation to team 179 and 1402 for winning the rodeo and team 233 and team 945 for being the finalist. another thing i have seen during this event, Every single person was always up to work or help each other with anything. example, everyone helped to take down the field. Thanks to Nathan Pell, Mike Walker, Andrew Rudolph, George Wallace, Peter smeryge (710), Dan Richardson, Ryan Albright, and the crew of 1083 for putting up a great event. even though we were there till 3 o'clock in the morning on saturday working on the field, the work did pay off. Now i can say that the 3 hours of drive was worth it. Also Thanks to Billfred for driving down for 7 hours from South Carolina and join us at the event. The robot rodeo is getting better and better every year. Florida teams showed off their spirit and their gracious professionalism the best way. Thanks for letting me to be a part of the crew and experience great Teamwork. now i am falling asleep too... lata. :)

The Rodeo was Awesome!! The new rookies on our team were given an opportunity to try out driving and operating SAM, and they got a little taste of what FIRST is about. I got to try driving too, and now I know I'll stick to being photographer, driving isn't for me! Congratulations to 179 and 1402 for winning this year's rodeo! Maybe the Children of the Swamp (also winners of the team spirit award) can help bring out the spirit in our new team members before the Florida Regional.
My Homecoming SPAM capes must be lucky, for Tytus and Amanda were wearing them when they won! My thanks goes to Barry for taking awesome pictures of all the teams, and sharing his spirit for both SPAM and Swamp Thing during the final rounds. The Florida Chapter of the RCU met for the first official meeting, and I think that with all the FIRST girls in the state, we can pull off something great in the next year. I can't wait to see everyone again!!! Thank you to 1083 and 1068 for hosting such a great event!

The first FIRST experience I really had was the 2003 Robot Rodeo where I really caught the bug and started getting into it. Now the 2004 Robot Rodeo has passed, and I have ganged many things the past year that I will remember forever, whether it be memories of build season, the knowledge I have ganged from my mentors, and the one thing that I truly hope stays with me the rest of my life... the friendships I have made.
The more robotics competitions I go to, the less it seems like the teams in competition, but instead just a bunch of friends gathering together to run what they have each have been working on.
This is more than the normal gracious professionalism of teams that are willing to help others for no reason other than the fact that there is a team in need of help. Teams have seemed to truly formed bonds with members of other teams, and they have included me in this, what a wonderful feeling. FIRST really truly is not about the robots, is it?
I look forward to the 2005 season with all the knowledge and friendships I will again gain because of FIRST, and I will personally continue grow and better myself as a person. You can bet I will be at the Rodeo next year as a college student, encouraging high schoolers in my area to get involved.
