IRI is now 16 days and a few hours away... What is everyone most looking forward to at IRI? Is it the food, number of teams, competition of the teams, Indianapolis, human player competition, Chairman's, etc.??
I thought about making this a poll but there are way too many possible reasons that teams may choose to come to the IRI. I look forward to hearing everyone's comments. :]

We come to make people think our team is that much more insane!!!! :yikes:
Not really we come to meet new teams, we come to make new friends, most of all we come to spread the messages of FIRST as much as we can....it's not about the competition it's about the fun that comes from it!!! I know my guys can't wait to get out there....meanwhile I'm figuring out what to do to my explorer this year.....seems I can't find my spray foam anymore
Oh yeah and for anyone who may have been pranked by Henry_222 at BTB or Battlecry.......um yeah....he stole my supplies....and yeah I guess this is kinda a fair warning....you might be his next victim @ IRI! LOL!!!!!! I just hope he doesn't have any spray paint!
Can't wait to see everyone!!!!

Why Do I Come To IRI?
- The Good Times
- Something to get off of work for.
- Better Teams than Nationals (Please don't fight me for this, it is true)
- Meet up with ex-team members that were away at College this season
- More Chances to Make Fun Of David Kelly!!!

Why do I come to IRI? Yet another top ten list from Schuff-man...
1. To get reacquainted with old friends.
2. To meet new friends.
3. To give the students on our team the opportunity to run the whole show at a competition.
4. Can't get enough of the competition atmosphere.
5. I haven't missed one yet!
6. Every year there is something new and entertaining - mentor competition this year!!
7. Andy Baker looks cool in zebra stripes from head to toe!
8. The cheapest event all year long.
9. Always attended by good, quality, gracious teams.
10. The last "hurrah" for our 2004 graduates - and they certainly deserve it.
Can't wait to see you all in just a couple weeks!

I go to IRI for the people and the outstanding competition. Honestly, all the years I've been to IRI, it's been more fun than nationals!
I'm looking forward to that again this year, and my cross-country carpool! :)

I'm coming b/c it will be the closest thing to a vacation for me this summer since it is the only week I'm not working.
Well, also, the people, the fun, the robots and the fact that I've never gone before so it should be exciting :D

With 13 days and 8 hours until IRI, I'm looking forward to it because it gives me something to do.
I don't know about the rest of you, but in my opinion summer is the most boring part of the year.

- it will be hard to seed worse than we did last year
- bbq pork
- seeing Andy in his famed zebra helmet
- one last chance to see the 2004 robots in action
- the chance to compete in a care-free & relaxed atmosphere (until the elims, then it's gloves off competition)
- talking to my friends from other teams

I'm coming cause I wanna experience it all. Our team is coming because we didnt make it to nationals, and this is the best thing (notice its not the next best? ;) )
For those of us who would love to come, but can't, is there any way you guys are gonna have a webcast, not unlike the one they had for Battlecry? I would very much enjoy watching it.

Unforturnately because of legistical issues, we are not going to be able to webcast the event as we did last year. :( However, we plan on posting live match results somewhere on indianafirst.org if everything works the way it should. The entire event is going to be recorded and digitized so we hope to be able to put all the matches online at a later time if we can find somewhere to host it. We also have all of last years matches burned onto a dvd and we are looking for somewhere to post those as well.
Despite unusually large hurdles, we are going to IRI because it is the place to see the best teams in the nation (that, and the fact that going halfway across the country was the only way for us seniors to reclaim our robot from the new drive team). we're only coming with three kids and one adult, but we're doing everything in our power to make it work.
speaking of the devil, you know that turnaround match? we're going to have to borrow some grown ups from somewhere. the one we have is good, but he doesn't have six arms. If worse comes to worse, we may even need to find someone to help us out with the drive team (though probably not). but still, if you find yourself at IRI without a team, or want to try something new, you could always be an honorary member of team 571 for two days. if you are serious about it, send me a pm and i might even be able to hook you up with a shirt. might. first i have to find them. but you never know, it could happen.

Looking forward to everyone being there, and I think we will be able to recruit some adults to help teams with the turn-around match.

overall good times are always had at iri, such as the chance to meet up with old friends on teams that you may or may not have seen at competition, watching the 2004 game the last time (for me) by an always amazing selection of teams, and also for me, wrapping up a pretty good run on team 71.
i am looking forward to the talent show... and to finally hear the famed karthik sing

I'm going...because I am. This is the first time that 818 has gone, so it's a new experience for me. I'm just hoping that we aren't humiliated too badly in competition and that we can have fun while we're down there. :)
I go because everyone else goes!
(No, I'm not giving into peer pressure...)
I'm going because of the people who will be there. It's always fun seeing old friends, and meeting new ones.

We originally founded the IRI, we're a host team and I only live 40 minutes away...so why not? ;)

Similar situation....we're a host, I'm close, and it's an opportunity to see Cyber Blue as Cyber Blue again since we don't see much of the whole team during the summer months. That and I'm in charge of all the video...so be nice to the camera guy, I'd appreciate it. :]

I go for the same reason as John: the people. That, for me, is what IRI is about... meeting people, and enjoying being part of the great FIRST community. Plus, I get to have Dan and Paul make fun of me and the other referees. Can you say, "belly check"? :p

...because I haven't seen some of you in over 2 years, and most of you ever.
...because SigKap HQ is apparently "5 minutes away" (according to Brandon)
...because I owe a lot of people cookies
...because I've never flown past the Appalacians before
...that kind of stuff. :)

Because I have to. ;)
No, really I go to IRI for the awesome competition and people who make it what it is. It'll be interesting to be doing music this year, hope you guys like Linkin Park :]

Unfortunately, I didn't make it to IRI this year since I was at a World Championship model airplane contest.
My reasons for attending IRI's are similar to most others listed, including seeing friends, and being part of what is probably the best off-season FIRST-related competition going. It is an exciting and fun event, and usually provides matches which are better than the best at Nationals.
I missed seeing everyone, but will be there next year.

Me cries after reading the stories and seeing the pictures from this year's IRI event and realizing that a ton of you are people on my "to meet in FIRST" list.
Looks like more people on CD go to IRI than the Championship event, but I know this is just a false statement probably.
I am going next year.. But, could you move it closer to CT, so I can go between classes?? You could hold it in umm... Connecticut and we can call it CRI.. (pronounced Cry) - which is what I am doing now that I realized I missed out on seeing a great competition, a bunch of great people.. and more importantly, I missed Jess's cookies.. :(
Hmm.. there is no crying smilie.. Brandon, get on that right away.. lol

i don't know. there were quite a few people there...i think all we need is Dean and Woodie (we had the rest of the Kamen Clan...but no Dean) and we'll be close

Same here...plus I am on the pit crew so that kinda makes me go. haha  And if I wasn't I would still want to go, why you might ask, because it rocks!
