I visited a robotics lab a few months ago and just found my pictures. I dunno about you, but I think it'd be PRETTY COOL if a team did this (see picture) for their drive. I'm sure there'd be plenty of disadvantages, such as supporting 130 pounds of beefy robot, but there are plenty of advantages, too. If FIRST were to do a game consisting of getting over obstacles, for example, this robot's legs would easily climb them.

Man.. I wish I had a video.. The robot had mad climbing skills :D

A team did do this. I don't remeber the team number unfortunately. All I remeber is that it had the same shaped wheels as the ones shown in the picture. They were at nationals. Whegs are very hard to design aparently. I read about a robot that ended up shaking itself apart because of the whegs. Search for whegs for more information.

I think, it was team 71 who had the walking bot. It was really neat:)

I had worked on designing a two-legged walking robot, it's actually pretty simple to do for a basic walker, but it would end up just being too slow and unstable.

walking bots are great to get over and across most obsticles, like they would have made short work of gettin up the platforms in this years game, but the problem is balence, especially with a biped. I did a project on it once and unless its doing the toy up robot bounce its runs into a lot of problems. I think the best way of going by it is useing a gyroscope to help it out, like the good ole segway. I think it would be cool to see a competition down the road in which we see several of them.

Now there's an idea, a Segway-ish robot for the competition! :yikes:

Im talking funky looking wheels. It didn't actually walk per say. The wheels were designed to claw up the stairs to the platform.
