View Full Version : Which browser do you use?

This thread has rules, and participation in it via poll or post constitutes agreement to them :):
First off, this is meant as a simple poll gauging which browser FIRSTies use at this day in age,
and not as a discussion of why Browser X is better, or of reasons why you use it.
I'm doing it because I'm pretty sure the FIRST community is extremely lopsided with respect to the outside world. Go ahead and talk about that, but keep the browser endorsements in the two other threads (1 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=29323), 2 (http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29425)) currently alive and kicking that have these, or make a new thread.
Secondly, this is a simple question, but since people might ask for new poll options or clarification, let's just say there will be no changes to the poll after it opens, and the question should be interpreted as your main browser if you use multiple ones as so many people seem to like saying.
Edit: I guess post if you're an "other," though I'm really interested to see how many of us are on Firefox, and don't care about you anyway :D.

You can ask Brandon to link you the generated webstat graph showing the percentage of users using a certain browser. I can't seem to find it.

Why seperate some mac browsers, but not seperate them for linux? Ie, Opera is availible for linux also. And mozilla is availible for windows, linux, and mac.
Also, you include all the browsers that use gecko together, but don't lump all the ones that use khtml (konqueror and safari)

Why seperate some mac browsers, but not seperate them for linux? Ie, Opera is availible for linux also. Because Opera/Mac and IE/Mac (especially, which uses a rendering engine called Tasman as opposed to IE/Win's Trident) are signifigantly different from their counterparts. I didn't include the IE ported to Linux. While I doubt many people use that, I suppose they could vote IE/Win.

I know IE for mac is quite different, but I wasn't aware that opera for mac was. What are the differences?

Ahh, note how different the stats (http://stats.chiefdelphi.com/cgi-bin/awstats.pl?month=all&year=2004&output=browserdetail&config=chiefdelphi.com) are to the polling results. Just goes to show...

Gecko, being a cross-platform app, does not get any distinction, because each port is almost the same under the hood.
AFAIK, Konq isn't a Mac browser, which is why I gave it distinction from Safari. Safari also has a whole lot of rendering engine changes made by Dave Hyatt and club from Apple, which distinguishes it from Konq quite a bit in my eyes.
Opera 6 and below, judging by bugs that were native to only one OS served as enough distinction for me to group them apart. Opera 7 is similar for IE and Mac, I've read, but I barely use Opera in any case. Perhaps grouping them together is justifiable, but does it really matter...
Nah.

... how large of a sampling size you have ;)
(not to mention that by nature it seems the non-IE users would tend to be attracted to this type of poll)

I use IE most of the time since all my PCs are running one form of Windows or another. I do have Firefox installed on my one laptop so I do use that when I'm on that one computer.

IE, netscape for applets. I'm too lazy to install anything else.
I personally use Safari. Most people don't though :)
